Family of Sophie Toscan du Plantier 'fully respect' Bailey ceremony
The family of Sophie Toscan du Plantier said they do not believe it would be appropriate to comment on the scattering of Ian Bailey's ashes during a ceremony in west Cork on Friday.
The French filmmaker's uncle, Jean Pierre Gazeau, told Extra.ie: 'We want to fully respect the ceremony, so we don't have any comment to make.

Ms Toscan du Plantier's family had called for Mr Bailey to be extradited to France, where a court found he was guilty of her murder in May 2019.

Ms Toscan du Plantier's family described the movie as 'ethically questionable'.
Mr Gazeau said while they 'fully acknowledge' Mr Sheridan's reputation as a gifted and accomplished filmmaker, they 'regret he has chosen to apply his talent to a project based on questionable evidence'.
The six-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker defended his film, stating that it was not intended to cause distress to the family.

10% of those attending sexual assault treatment units reported multiple assailants
One in 10 of all people attending sexual assault treatment units in Ireland last year reported that they had been attacked by multiple assailants. The latest annual report of the country's six sexual assault treatment units (SATUs) shows the proportion of cases where someone has been sexually assaulted by two or more individuals increased to 10% in 2024 from 9% in 2023 and 7% in 2022. Use of weapons doubled It also revealed that the rate of use of weapons in incidents of sexual violence more than doubled to 7% last year with physical restraints being used in 36% of all reported cases. The report said the latest figures could suggest an escalation in the severity of injuries sustained in incidents of sexual assault as the number of people requiring referrals for injury follow-up care increased by a third to 21 — 2% of all cases. Five individuals needed to be hospitalised due to their injuries last year. Drink spiking The latest figures show 21% of people who reported sexual violence expressed concern that they their drink may have been spiked while a further 17% were unsure whether a drug-facilitated sexual assault had occurred. They also reveal that the share of incidents where the perpetrator was described as a stranger also increased to 31% last year from 28% in 2023 and 26% in 2022. However, there was a fall in the rate of 'recent acquaintance' assaults by someone who the victim has met in the previous 24 hours which decreased by four percentage points to 11% in 2024. Fall in numbers attending SATUs Overall, the report shows the number of people attending the HSE-funded SATUs fell by 4% last year with a total of 1,021 people who had experienced sexual violence attending the six centres — down 41 on the previous year. The largest SATU in Dublin recorded a 13% decrease in attendances — down 57 compared with the previous year to 394 in 2024 while there was an 18% decrease in numbers at the Galway centre — down 24 to 113. The other four centres — Cork, Mullingar, Letterkenny and Waterford — all reported modest increases in the number of people using their services. Approximately half of all people attending SATUs last year were aged under 25, while the average age of attendees was 28 years. The report revealed 2% of individuals attending SATUs were aged under 14 years. According to official figures, 91% of people using SATU services in 2024 were female, while 8% were male and 1% identified as another gender or none — a similar trend to recent years. Approximately seven out of 10 people attending SATUs last year identified themselves as Irish. Individuals from 57 other nationalities also availed for SATU services with 4% of all cases needing the assistance of a translator. The report shows a third of all incidents of sexual violence reported at SATUs occurred in Dublin, while 83% occurred within Ireland. A further 7.5% took place in the rest of Europe. While weekend days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday continued to account for the largest proportion of incidents, their share decreased from 79% in 2023 to 56% last year. The overwhelming majority of incidents (82%) occurred between 8pm and 8am. More than two-thirds occurred indoors with 22% in the victim's home and 21% in the assailant's home. The Corrs star pays tribute to Lord Henry Mount Charles after funeral warning
The Corrs star Caroline Corr has paid an emotional tribute in the wake of the death of Lord Henry Mount Charles as his funeral details have been announced. The Dundalk native was among the hundreds to pay tribute to the Slane Castle boss, who died on June 18 at the age of 74. Captioning a video of Lord Henry on her social media, she told her 70,000 followers: "Lord Henry Mount Charles. The extraordinary legacy that changed the world of Irish entertainment." The Co Meath aristocrat's funeral will be held on Wednesday at midday at St Patrick's Church in Slane. It will also stream online, with his family warning: "Due to very limited space inside the church, seating will be reserved and allocated for the family, with provision made for those outside." The chapel is being reserved for his family and guests because it is so small but the public are also invited to come and pay their respects. His son Alex Conyngham told the Sunday Independent of his last conversation with his father. "We talked late into the night, just the two of us, and it included my father putting some steel in my back for the future." Mount Charles told his son that, in taking over responsibility for Slane Castle, "at times it would be incredibly challenging and there may come times where you feel like it's too much to bear." Conyngham said his father added that "those are precisely the moments where you have to dig in and remember what your responsibilities are and fight to find the light at the end of the tunnel — the light will always be there". In his online death notice, Lord Mount Charles' family paid tribute to the staff at St James' Hospital in Dublin who cared for him during his long and brave battle with cancer. They said: "The Conyngham family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at St James' Hospital, where Henry received stellar care over the past decade and to all those who supported him with compassion, kindness, and humour throughout his illness. "They are also deeply moved by the outpourings of love and support following Henry's passing. "Henry will repose at the Castle on Tuesday 24 and those wishing to pay their respects are invited to do so between 3 to 7pm. "The funeral will take place on Wednesday 25 at noon in St Patrick's Church of Ireland, Slane. "Due to very limited space inside the Church, seating will be reserved and allocated for the family, with provision made for those outside. "The family thanks you in advance for your understanding and would like to welcome those attending to sympathise after the service in Slane Castle."
