Insp Intan only woman who completes UTK Training Series 1/2025
KUALA LUMPUR: For Inspector Intan, the motivation to endure one of the most gruelling training programmes in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) came from a deeply personal place - her parents.
The eldest of five siblings said it is the desire to enable her parents to really enjoy their golden years without worrying about the future of their family that kept her going throughout the physically and mentally demanding Basic Close Protection Security Course Series 1/2025, conducted by the PDRM's elite Special Actions Unit (UTK).
'Every time I feel like giving up, I think of my parents. I believe I can provide for them and allow them to just stay home and enjoy life,' said the 29-year-old officer from Bagan Serai, Perak.
Speaking to reporters after the UTK Beret Award Ceremony and the closing of the course at Bukit Aman today, Insp Intan beamed with pride as the only female trainee to complete the four-month elite programme - a milestone proving that women too can withstand the rigours of top-tier police training.
The ceremony was officiated by Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director (Operations), DCP M.V. Sri Kumar.
Insp Intan shared that her interest in joining UTK began after watching a montage of the special unit during basic police training at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in March 2024.
'After completing the training at Pulapol, I served as an investigation officer at the Jerantut District Police headquarters for a month before deciding to enrol in this course. I'd be lying if I said I never felt like quitting, but the support and encouragement from my male colleagues helped me push through,' she said.
Also among the 36 graduates awarded the prestigious UTK beret were 24-year-old identical twin brothers, Constables Faiz and Farhan, from Bachok, Kelantan. Both of them, of course, credited their achievement to a shared goal and unwavering sibling support.
Farhan, who previously served with the Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department, said he joined UTK to test his own limits after working for three years as a police driver.
'My twin and I had planned to join the police force since our SPM days...and after three years in service, we decided to take on the UTK challenge,' he said.
Faiz added that having his twin brother alongside him during the toughest moments of training kept him going.
'Of course, there were days when I wanted to throw in the towel and just give up, but having my twin right beside me gave me strength again. We supported and motivated each other through everything,' he said.
A total of 36 trainees received their UTK berets today, marking their successful completion of the elite training course and formal induction into PDRM's most highly skilled special forces unit.

PDRM urged to take firm actions on cable thefts at ECRL site
PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) needs to take stricter action over cable thefts at the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project site because they could affect the project's planning. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he had contacted Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ask the PDRM to take stricter action. He said the cable theft case cannot be considered an ordinary theft case because it affects public order and national security. 'I have asked the police to take action not only under the offence of theft. 'So, stricter action under stricter laws needs to be taken but I leave it to the police and the police's discretion to take action but we cannot consider this as ordinary theft,' he said in a press conference here today. MRL today expressed concern following the cable theft case which could affect the planning and train operation schedule of the ECRL project which is currently at a crucial phase ahead of completion in December 2026. MRL chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said several incidents of cable theft were detected at certain locations along the ECRL line, across Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Selangor. The 665-kilometre ECRL project is the largest infrastructure project under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Malaysia is expected to improve transport networks and stimulate economic development on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

IGP Khalid: Never joined any political party in 38-year career, accepts false report with ‘open heart'
PUTRAJAYA, June 23 — Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail today reportedly denied joining any political party throughout his 38-year career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). According to a report in The Star, Khalid said the news organisation that had erroneously reported he was part of PKR had requested to meet him, and that he would do so 'soon'. 'I accept what happened with an open heart,' he was quoted as saying. On Saturday, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh issued a statement saying Khalid had never been a member of the party or held any position within it, and warned that such false claims could undermine his credibility. The report wrongly linking him to the party was published by a newspaper last Friday. Khalid, who is from Manong, Perak, joined PDRM in 1987. He served as police attaché at the Malaysian High Commission in London from 2014 to 2018, before returning to lead the Pahang Special Branch. In 2023, he was appointed director of the Special Branch at Bukit Aman, a position he held until his recent promotion to IGP.
