Maharashtra To Plant 10 Crore Trees For A Greener, Sustainable Future

The Maharashtra government has set a target of planting 10 crore trees this year to create a greener and sustainable future for the state, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said.
Tree plantation should become a people's movement, the Chief Minister said after chairing a review meeting for the 'Green Maharashtra, Prosperous Maharashtra' tree plantation campaign on the eve of the World Environment Day on Wednesday.
"We've set a target of planting 10 crore trees this year, and will aim for the same next year too, because this is not just about numbers, it's about creating a greener, sustainable future for our state," Fadnavis said in a statement after the meeting.
He said under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, Maharashtra has consistently led the way by "planting 33 crore and 50 crore trees" in recent years.
"We are confident that we'll surpass this year's target as well," the chief minister said.
Tree plantation must become a people's movement, he said.
"I've urged all departments, local bodies, and social organisations to join hands. The saplings must be 1.5 to 3 years old, and we must ensure their survival and long-term care," Fadnavis said.
"We're leveraging AI, remote sensing and satellite monitoring for real-time tracking and transparency. Directed for optimal use of CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) funds to ensure the impact on ground," he said.
The forest department will take the lead on plantations along highways and pilgrimage routes, the Chief Minister said.
"In view of the upcoming industrial growth, we plan to plant one crore trees in Gadchiroli and intensify efforts in Beed, Latur and Jyotiba hills where the tree cover needs urgent attention," he said.

Nagpur: In a major boost for road connectivity to Nashik for Kumbh Mela 2027, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Sunday approved upgradation, along with construction in some patches, of up to eight highways leading to the city. Along with this, there are some internal roads which also need to be upgraded to support the flow of visitors towards Nashik," said Fadnavis. "Gadkari ji held a meeting regarding our request and he has approved all the projects. Soon, a DPR will be prepared and funds allotted. Govt seeks public inputs for Viksit Maha 2047 via survey
Nagpur: Maharashtra govt has launched a statewide citizen survey to collect public opinion for the preparation of 'Viksit Maharashtra 2047' vision document. The initiative is part of a 150-day programme led by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, aimed at shaping a long-term development roadmap for the state in alignment with the national India@2047 goal. The survey, officially inaugurated on June 17, encourages citizens to share their views on development priorities across 16 key sectors for which seven questions are to be answered on WhatsApp chatbot. These include agriculture, education, health, rural and urban development, land and water resources, infrastructure, finance, industry, services, social development, security, soft power, technology, and human resource management. Citizens can participate in the survey by scanning QR code displayed on official banners or by visiting the link: The planning department has clarified that no personal information will be collected during the process. The vision document aims to guide Maharashtra toward becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2029 and a $5 trillion economy by 2047. Departments have been directed to set short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals, focusing on progress, sustainability, inclusivity, and good governance. Experts and organisations from both govt and non-govt sectors will also be involved in drafting sector-wise plans. The campaign falls under the broader framework of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the national movement marking 100 years of India's independence in 2047. It emphasizes citizen engagement as a cornerstone for planning and decision-making. The chief minister has directed all district collectors, commissioners, and local officials to ensure public participation by promoting the survey at key locations. Gore: Most traders support Pandharpur corridor plan
Kolhapur: Solapur's guardian minister, Jaykumar Gore, has stated that around 85% of traders operating around Pandharpur's Vitthal-Rukmini temple have expressed support for the temple corridor development plan. Speaking during a cleanliness drive held on Sunday in the temple town, Gore said, "The chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis , aims to develop Pandharpur through corridor development. The lakhs of devotees arriving should get facilities, and they can get darshan hassle-free." He added, "We are in discussion with the traders to implement the project. Around 80-85% of the traders support the corridor development plan. We are also discussing with the local residents. I can assure you that without taking all stakeholders into confidence, we will not start corridor development work. We are also sure that all of them will give permission to start the work." Thousands of locals joined the cleanliness campaign, ahead of the expected influx of lakhs of devotees on Ashadi Ekadashi in the first week of next month. Already, hundreds of Dindis (pilgrim groups) have begun their journey toward Pandharpur from across Maharashtra. However, a group of local traders recently held a vote on the development plan. They claim that the majority of participants objected to the proposal, fearing eviction and loss of livelihood. Towards the end of March this year, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said that his govt has given the go-ahead to the Solapur district administration for the Pandharpur corridor plan. He mentioned that the work would begin in 3 months. Bicycle Dindi sends out message of fitness In another event, Minister of State for Youth Raksha Khadse flagged off the "Bicycle Dindi", which saw participation from over 4,000 cyclists hailing from 80 towns and cities across Maharashtra. All the cyclists undertook a Nagar Pradakshina (city circumambulation) for the event. Khadse said, "The purpose behind Bicycle Dindi was to give the message of a healthy mind and healthy body."
