As water pipe bursts, road bears the brunt in Noida
Noida: A water pipeline burst near the roundabout connecting Sectors Alpha 1 and 2 Friday, once again exposing the fragile state of basic infrastructure in the area. Residents say the leak had been ongoing for quite some time, evident from the damaged stretch of road surrounding the pipe.
"A water pipeline was found leaking near the main road between Sectors Alpha 1 and 2. It appears the leak had been active for several days, as water erosion has caused the road to break," said Harinder Bhati, a daily commuter.
This isn't the first time the sectors have faced such issues. In March this year, over 10,000 residents were left without water for days when the main pipeline near the Jaypee Golf Course roundabout burst.
"Pipes are rusted and outdated. Despite repeated petitions for their replacement, GNIDA has taken no concrete action," said NP Singh, general secretary of the RWA, Sector Alpha 2.
"There's always some leakage somewhere," said Ramdutt Sharma, a resident of B Block, Alpha 1.
After receiving information about Friday's incident, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) officials from water department dispatched a team to begin repairs. However, residents remain skeptical. "Temporary repairs won't help," Singh added. "We need systemic upgrades, not just band-aid fixes." The persistent pipeline failures have raised questions over quality of maintenance and long-term planning by GNIDA, with locals demanding urgent action to prevent future disruptions.

Showers bring relief from heat, but outages continue in Noida
Noida: As Tuesday's brief showers brought some respite from the scorching heat, several areas in Noida and Ghaziabad were left without electricity for 30 minutes to an hour in the afternoon. In Noida, sectors 36, 115, 100x, 71, 7x, 130, and 135 along the expressway were the most affected. While residents of Ghaziabad's Sanjay Nagar, Loni, Vaishali, Indirapuram, and Vasundhara also reported disruptions, some due to local faults and overloaded equipment. Officials, however, said that most faults were resolved quickly as rain eased in the evening, but residents have pointed to the persistent outage issue that escalates, especially after the rains. Yashpal Singh Chikara, the RWA secretary of Block HD in Duplex Villas, Sector 135, told TOI that they were facing regular outages amid excessive heat, and Tuesday's showers contributed to nearly half an hour of power cuts. "Every time there's even a little rain or strong wind, the power goes out in Duplex Villa, Sector 135. Today, it went off due to a fault during the showers. Neighbouring sectors like 130 and 137 were also affected," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Skype Phone Alternative Undo Residents also pointed to the waterlogging issue, followed by the rain. Ashoo Sharma, RWA vice president in Sector 36, reported an outage that lasted for nearly half an hour and highlighted how old wiring in the area adds to the woes during the rainy season. He said, "The power is immediately cut off after any strong wind or showers. Our sector's wiring is nearly 48 years old, and no upgrades have been made to the substation. We have had numerous meetings with senior officials and filed more than 60 complaints through the integrated grievance redressal system (IGRS) regarding underground wiring, but action has been taken." Similar was the situation in Sector 100x after the breakdown of the 33kV line from Sector 115 affected the power supply in the area, leading to an outage that lasted for more than an hour. "Today's power cuts severely impacted several societies in Noida, including Home 121, Gaur Grandeur, Amrapali Platinum, Eldeco Aamantran, Aranya in Sector 119, and Prateek Laurel, Amrapali Zodiac in Sector 120, among others. "The discom confirmed that the power failure originated from the Sector 115 substation due to a transformer tripping issue," said Nikhil Singhal, president of the Noida High-Rise Federation (NHRF) for the 100x sectors. Indra Singh Rana from Abhay Khand 3, Indirapuram, complained of nearly 40 minutes of power cuts. "There were power cuts 3 to 4 times during the day in Sanjay Nagar on Tuesday, both before and after the rain," Tyagi pointed out, adding that the situation was poor consistently, regardless of the weather. "For the past three to four days, we experienced power cuts lasting over 2 hours during both day and night in Sector 23, Sanjay Nagar. The conditions were similar in Kavi Nagar, Raj Nagar, and other areas in Ghaziabad. This is primarily due to transformers breaking down from overloading and cable faults caused by excessive heat," Tyagi added.

Water shortage continues in Noida, relief expected by Friday
1 2 3 Noida: The ongoing water crisis in Noida entered its fourth day on Thursday, with several sectors grappling with dry taps following the shutdown of the Ganga water supply due to pipeline repairs. Officials have said the supply will likely resume by Friday. Water supply has been disrupted in Sectors 105, 31, 71, 119 and nearby areas, affecting thousands of residents. In Sector 105 and its adjoining localities such as Sector 108, HIG, and Judge Colony, around 10,000 people are facing an acute drinking water shortage. "The supply of drinking water has been disrupted since June 9 due to the Ganga water shutdown by the Noida Authority. Residents are forced to buy potable water from outside, and water motors have been damaged due to dry pipelines," said Divya Krishnatreya, RWA president of Sector 105. RP Singh, deputy general manager of the Water and Sewer Department at Noida Authority, said repair work is underway. "A major pipeline breakdown occurred on Sunday. Normal supply will resume from Friday. In the meantime, we are managing supply with available groundwater resources. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mensualités: Bonne nouvelle pour les propriétaires étouffés par les crédits Bons plans propriétaires En savoir plus Undo Residents in need can request tankers," he said. However, residents say the backup arrangements have been inadequate. In Sector 71, residents reported no tanker supply despite repeated requests. "There's no water, and power cuts have made it worse. Despite repeated calls, no one responded. Not a single tanker arrived," said Pradeep Mishra, RWA general secretary of Metro Apartment. In Sector 31, resident Praveen Singh urged officials to provide immediate relief. Sector 77, part of the densely populated 7X belt, also faced severe shortages. "We bought flats here for a better lifestyle, but every year we face basic issues like water and electricity," said Sunita Singh, a resident. Frustration is mounting across Noida over recurring supply issues. "Why does Noida face clean water shortages year after year? If the supply can be stopped for weeks in the name of maintenance, what's the point of development?" asked Prashant Tyagi Vats, a resident of Sector 105. Several RWAs said the situation should be escalated to the state government for a lasting solution. "Despite our contacts up to Lucknow, we're still struggling, especially in this heat," said OP Yadav, RWA president of Arawali Apartments, Sector 52. The crisis has underlined the city's fragile infrastructure and rising demand for uninterrupted basic services. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Power cuts & voltage fluctuations add to woes in Noida and Ghaziabad
Noida: Several sectors of Noida and Ghaziabad have been grappling with unannounced power outages lasting 1–2 hours, frequent tripping, and severe voltage fluctuations over the past few weeks. The disruptions have been largely attributed to overloading of transformers and overheating of equipment, as electricity demand surged due to widespread use of air-conditioners and coolers. These power cuts have added to the discomfort of residents already struggling with soaring daytime temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius. The weather has been further intensified by high humidity levels and warm nights, with minimum temperatures not dropping below 28 degrees Celsius, making both cities swelter under sustained heat stress. In Noida, disruptions were reported from sectors 30, 25, 122, 105, and 78, etc . In Ghaziabad, Lal Kuan, Nandgram, Mansarovar Park, Shankar Vihar, Channi Vihar, and parts of Indirapuram, Vaishali, and Vasundhara were among the worst affected. In Khoda, Ghaziabad residents faced a six-hour blackout on Sunday, followed by intermittent tripping on Monday that continued in over half a dozen colonies in the Lal Kuan area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Keep Your Home Efficient with This Plug-In elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Learn More Undo Residents of Mansarovar Park, Shankar Vihar, and Channi Vihar claimed they were facing daily power cuts of 1-2 hours during the day. Areas like Pratap Vihar and Shivpuri also reported outages. Despite mounting complaints, officials claimed the supply was largely stable. Anil Kumar Singh, superintending engineer of Ghaziabad Zone 1, said there was "no problem in power supply except in a few places." He added that faults were being rectified promptly upon receiving information. In Noida, residents complained of worsening conditions. Parmod Verma, RWA president of Sector 30, alleged that there was a four-hour power cut from 11pm on Sunday till 3am on Monday. "When we complain or call the lineman, he doesn't bother to pick up the call. This is the height of irresponsibility," Verma said. Ranjan Samantaray, a resident of Antriksh Golf View 2 in Sector 78, said frequent voltage fluctuations had impacted the regular Ganga water supply to group housing societies. Cdr (Retd) N Mahajan from Jalvayu Vihar in Sector 25 said claims of improved infrastructure were not visible on the ground. However, Noida Power Department chief engineer Sanjay Kumar Jain denied any major disruption in urban areas. "The supply in Noida's urban areas is normal. Only two locations faced issues due to transformer maintenance," he told TOI, adding that RWAs were kept in the loop for planned rostering during infrastructure upgrades.
