AP forms Cabinet panel to monitor agri prices
Vijayawada: The state Cabinet, which met here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, mainly discussed the problems of farmers, including the lack of minimum support price (MSP) for several agricultural crops.
As farmers are enduring the lack of MSP for chillis, tobacco, aqua products, cocoa, sugarcane and mango crops, the Chief Minister formed a Cabinet sub-committee with six ministers and directed it to study the issue at the field level and take appropriate steps to protect the interests of the farmers.
Disclosing the details of the Cabinet meeting to the media, Minister for Information and Public Relations K Parthasarathi said the Cabinet approved Rs 13,000 crore investments proposed during the recent meeting of the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB).
He said the Cabinet decided to allot land for the Law University in Amaravati as per the request of the Bar Council of India which came forward to set up it in Amaravati. He said that the Cabinet also approved the allotment of land for Dr BR Ambedkar Open University near Eluru. He further said the Cabinet decided to set up Potti Sriramulu Telugu University's main office in Rajahmundry.
Coming to the tourism sector, the minister said the Cabinet had re-alloted 500 acres of land to the GMR Group which is developing greenfield Bhogapuram airport near Visakhapatnam. He said the previous YSRCP government did not allot 500 acres of the total 2,703 acres allocated for the airport. He said the Cabinet also approved several projects in tourism sector as per the new tourism policy.
The minister said the Cabinet also decided to create 2,260 new posts for special children as per the directions of the Supreme Court. According to him, the draft bill of the AP Transport Department to reduce green tax on vehicles. He said a decision was also taken to fill 245 vacant posts under various categories in AP High Court.

UP govt revises SOP to boost financial autonomy of urban local bodies
The Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Department has revised the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlining financial and administrative powers of urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state. Under the new guidelines, Nagar Panchayats will now be empowered to independently sanction development projects up to Rs 1 crore, while municipal Councils can undertake projects worth up to Rs 2 crore. This marks a significant jump from the earlier limit of Rs 40 lakh set in the 2021 SOP. Officials said the updated SOP is part of a broader set of reforms aimed at promoting decentralisation, improving transparency, and strengthening urban governance. One of the key changes allows the use of interlocking tiles on roads up to 3.75 metres in width, an infrastructure upgrade that aligns with modern urban planning needs. In addition to enhancing financial autonomy, the revised SOP has also introduced stronger accountability mechanisms. If a construction project is found to be substandard, 50% of the cost recovery will be borne by the contractor, while the remaining 50% will be recovered from the concerned engineers and administrative officials of the respective ULB. The district magistrate will oversee this recovery process. Urban local bodies have also been instructed to maintain ward-wise road directories and conduct GIS mapping of existing infrastructure to aid in more efficient future planning. 'It is a step towards reforms and would improve the quality and effectiveness of urban governance and at the same time increase transparency. These revised SOP norms also aim to promote decentralization,' claimed Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department.

Prayagraj's women lead the way with 46.71% workdays under MNREGA
1 2 Prayagraj: The state government's relentless efforts towards women's empowerment and employment have yielded impressive results in Sangam City. Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), women's participation in total workdays generated has reached an encouraging 46.71 per cent. A total of 1.60 crore jobs (manav diwas) have so far been created under the MNREGA scheme across the state in the financial year 2025-26, out of which women contributed to the creation of more than 72 lakh jobs. The contribution of about 45 per cent is the highest so far. Interestingly, women are also proving helpful for MNREGA management and supervision. The number of women mates employed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has increased in the current financial year. Over 5,500 women mates have been employed, marking a 3 percent rise from 41.87 per cent in 2024-25. Deputy commissioner (MNREGA) Gulab Chandra said, "As many as 6,112,887 jobs (manav diwas) have so far been created in the Prayagraj district during the financial year 2024-25. The percentage of workdays of women workers in the total workdays created has been 46.71%, which is more than the state average."
