The smuggling network, which operated from Kandla port in Gujarat, diverted tankers to a hidden factory running behind a hotel in Bikaner's Pallu area. Police officials said that the network was involved in transporting at least 25 tankers of fake diesel, each containing 35,000 litres, and pushing it into the market. Three men were arrested, including a resident of the Rainwal area in Jaipur district.
Bikaner range IG Om Prakash said the accused were using fake firms like Nav Nath Chemical and Oil to prepare transport documents.
Though the bills of supply falsely listed Hisar as the destination, the chemical-laden tankers were instead rerouted to the illicit facility concealed behind Mahadeo Hotel, which served as a front for a factory where chemicals were mixed with diesel to prepare diluted and illegal fuel.
Police raided the location and seized 4 lakh litres of the adulterated fuel, along with one chemical tanker, pick-up vehicles, and a cash amount of Rs 3.55 lakh.
The operation was found to be highly organised, with forged documents pointing to widespread distribution of the fake fuel across multiple states.
The accused include tanker driver Banwari Lal, a resident of Rainwal in Jaipur, factory owner Netram, 26, from Rajiasar in Sriganganagar, and Pradeep, 43, from Hanumangarh. Investigators believe the gang was operating on a massive scale, transporting at least 25 tankers every month, each carrying around 35,000 litres of chemicals.

This points to a monthly smuggling volume of nearly 8.75 lakh litres of chemical used for fuel adulteration.
Police suspect the racket could be linked to a recent major fire at a house in Sawalsar village, Rajiasar area. The fire was reportedly caused by an inflammable substance, and the connection to the smuggling ring is now under investigation.
The IG warned that such fake and diluted diesel is being circulated widely and poses serious risks. He urged the public to purchase fuel only from authorised dealers and pumps to avoid potential hazards.

IIT Kanpur assistant professor, two others booked in student death case on court orders
A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against an IIT Kanpur assistant professor and two others on court orders in connection with the death of a 24-year-old PhD scholar who was found hanging in his hostel room on the institute's campus in February this year, police said. This comes after Ramsoorat Yadav, father of Ankit Yadav, the victim, approached the court seeking registration of a case, alleging that his son was driven to take the extreme step due to harassment and blackmail. The two other accused are a woman research scholar and her mother, it is learnt. No arrest has been made in the case so far. Ankit was pursuing his PhD under the guidance of the accused assistant professor in the chemistry department of the institute. Kalyanpur Station House Officer (SHO) Sudhir Kumar said investigation into the case has began and a suicide note purportedly written by the victim is being examined. According to the police, Ramsoorat Yadav, a resident of Azamgarh, alleged that his son Ankit was emotionally manipulated and financially exploited by the fellow woman scholar. Under pressure from her, Ankit gave her Rs 50,000, which he availed through a personal loan, he claimed. Ramsoorat claimed that when he confronted them after coming to know of the matter, the woman and her mother returned the money and assured that Ankit would not be troubled again. The complainant alleged the two started blackmailing Ankit again— threatening to ruin his future by leaking objectionable photos and videos of him and filing false police complaints against him. They also allegedly took back Rs 50,000 and started demanding more money from him. The duo then influenced the assistant professor, who began subjecting Ankit to mental harassment — keeping him in the laboratory for extended hours without reason, denying him food, and publicly humiliating him, Yadav alleged. When Ankit said he could no longer bear the pressure and was unable to pay any more money, the two allegedly threatened to falsely implicate him in legal cases, it was alleged. They asked him to pay Rs 5 lakh or end his life, the complainant alleged. Ankit's body was found in his hostel room on February 10 after breaking open the door by his friends. The police claimed to have recovered a suicide note in which the victim did not blame anyone. The police also cited Ramsoorat's complaint saying the victim had spoken to his mother over the phone the same morning and talked about being harassed by the assistant professor and woman researcher even as he expressed no intention of committing suicide.
