Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is becoming more bullish on quantum technologies
As the leader of the hardware company at the forefront of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution, Jensen Huang's word carries a lot of weight in the tech sector. When it comes to emerging technologies, including quantum computing and self-driving vehicles, an endorsement from Huang or Nvidia can often be enough to power strong valuation rallies for relevant companies.
Speaking at Nvidia's Paris GTC conference today, Huang said that quantum computing is "approaching an inflection point." The comments helped power huge gains for quantum stocks, and Quantum Computing has been the day's biggest winner so far.
What does the latest inflation data mean for Quantum Computing stock?
This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics published the latest core Consumer Price Index (CPI) data -- and the results were better than anticipated. Core CPI, which tracks the cost of a basket of goods and excludes food and energy items, increased 2.8% year over year in May and 0.1% on a sequential monthly basis. For comparison, economists had forecast that core CPI would increase 2.9% year over year and 0.2% on a monthly basis.
Slower-than-anticipated inflation makes it more likely that the Federal Reserve will serve up an interest rate cut this year. In turn, this could create a stronger bullish environment for the stock market -- and growth stocks in particular. If the Fed does return to cutting rates this year, it could create a much more favorable backdrop for Quantum Computing and other high-risk, high-reward stocks in its corner of the tech industry.

World's first quantum computing super hub boots up in Lethbridge
Businesses in Lethbridge, Alta., are the first in the world to experience a brand-new technology that will soon be spread across the planet. It's been dubbed the 'ChatGPT of quantum computing' by its founders and economic experts are eager to see it in action. 'We are so excited to have the super quantum hub here in Lethbridge,' said Renae Barlow, vice-president of entrepreneurship and innovation at Economic Development Lethbridge. While it all sounds exciting, what is a super quantum computing hub? Well, Muhammad Khan, founder and CEO of SuperQ Quantum Computing, the company behind the hub, says it's as simple as adding a few components together. 'The whole value proposition for the super platform is it leverages a combination of classical and quantum hardware. It used Nvidia GPUs, it uses (quantum parts), it uses gate-based quantum machines, it uses classical CPUs, GPUs. It figures out how to best solve the problem using a combination of these architectures.' Story continues below advertisement Simple. 'Having this type of access for our southern Alberta companies and industries puts us ahead. We're now leading as the only quantum hub. Well, (businesses) have got access to technology that nobody else does,' said Barlow. But why was Lethbridge chosen to be the pioneers of such a groundbreaking technology? According to Barlow, it's the industries around here. 'The industries that we have here are producing massive amounts of data. When you think about agriculture alone, just in precision ag, agri-food, agri-tech, we have manufacturing here, we have logistics here. All of those have massive amounts of data.' The man spearheading the operation, Eyren Uggenti, says it will be more than just businesses that can benefit from the hub. 'There's going to be students coming from the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic who are going to have the opportunity to immerse a little further in these technologies and also, there's new initiatives propping up as we move forward. Even the access for researchers is a very exciting proposition with the hub being open now.' Khan says the next hub is expected to be opened in the United Arab Emirates, with others planned across different countries and continents in time.

Why Centrus Energy Stock Leaped 5% Higher Today
Centrus Energy (NYSEMKT: LEU) attracted the right kind of energy on the stock exchange Friday. The company's shares closed that session 5% higher, after it published news of an important contract renewal. That pop looked particularly impressive when matched against the S&P 500 's (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) trajectory, which dipped into the red with a 0.2% decline. An energetic extension Before market open that morning, Centrus divulged that the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) exercised its option to extend the company's contract to produce for it high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU). The extension now runs through June 30, 2026. HALEU is a type of nuclear fuel that has a level of enrichment considered most suitable for current nuclear reactor technology, including the small nuclear reactors (SMRs) that have recently come into vogue. In what's probably not a coincidence, Centrus' latest news comes barely a week after its business partner Oklo was tapped to build and operate a nuclear plant to supply heat and electricity to an Air Force base in Alaska. The two companies have a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in place for Centrus to supply HALEU for Oklo's projects. The trend is its friend In its press release on the contract extension, Centrus added that the DoE holds options for further extensions to the existing contract. It could opt to keep Centrus's HALEU supply going for as much as a further eight years. So it's not only good news that a major business for the company has a longer runway, but it's looking for more as time goes by. Assuming President Trump's embrace of nuclear energy remains in place (and possibly outlives his administration), Centrus will be in a very good position indeed. House of Commons passes Liberals' major projects bill
Liberal and Conservative members of Parliament voted to pass the government's major projects legislation this evening. After the second of two votes, Prime Minister Mark Carney crossed the floor to shake hands with Opposition House leader Andrew Scheer and Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lantsman. Two votes were held instead of one after the House Speaker ruled that the legislation had two distinct parts without a clear common element. That allowed the Bloc Québécois and NDP members to vote in favour of the first part of the bill — which looks to tackle internal trade barriers — and against the more controversial second part dealing with major projects. The major projects bill grants the government sweeping powers to quickly approve projects that are deemed to be in the national interest. The bill is now headed to the Senate, which is scheduled to sit until June 27.
