We asked Nigella Lawson where she'd eat in Sydney if she had a day to roam
You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger international fan of Sydney's and Australia's food scenes than British cookbook and TV personality Nigella Lawson. You just need to look at her Instagram account to see her enthuse about the restaurants she has visited here over the years. It's why Vivid's creative director, Gill Minervini, invited Lawson to host three dinners as part of this year's festival. Just before the 280 guests arrived for her three-course curated dinner in the reimagined Muru Giligu Tunnel in Martin Place, Good Food snared 10 minutes of her time to talk about her favourite topic: eating.
You're a big advocate of Sydney's food scene. Why?
I haven't eaten in every city in the world, but the reason why I love eating in Sydney is that I think the food is extraordinarily good. There are chefs who are really inspirational for me, but it's done in an informal setting. I don't mean Sydney itself, but at restaurants. What interests me is really exquisite food but [done] in a rather relaxed, unpretentious setting so it feels very inclusive …
Obviously, the variety of food in Sydney is enormous, and I think that's partly because, like all port cities, there are people from so many different cultures, and that feeds into the food culture. But there's a particular sort of attitude, an Australian attitude, which is perhaps less bound by tradition so it'll allow itself to drink in and absorb many cultures, and then somehow will spin them and merge them and come up with something that is very direct, very unpretentious, very Australian, and that's fascinating.

John Cleese would refuse a knighthood if he was offered the British honour. The Monty Python star previously turned down the offer of a CBE and a peerage and he is adamant that if the Honours Committee and King Charles selected him for the most prestigious accolade and make him "Sir John Cleese" he would say no to the title because he doesn't need, nor want, the validation. When asked if he would turn down a knighthood in the New Year's Honours List, he said: 'I would. I simply don't need that sort of validation. Cleese's fellow Monty Python troupe member Michael Palin did accept his knighthood and although he isn't interested in receiving he accolade the Fawlty Towers actor was happy for his long-time friend. In an interview with Candis magazine, Cleese said: 'Good luck to him. I was genuinely pleased. I call him Sir Mickey: that's how I always address my emails to him, He's a lovely guy.' Cleese, 85, is proud to be in an exclusive club of men who did snub a knighthood, a list which includes late rock star David Bowie and The History Boys writer Alan Bennett, 91. The comedian said: "Just look at those men who have turned down awards and titles: David Bowie, Michael Frayn, Alan Bennett and Albert Finney. I have respect for them.' Cleese admits his political beliefs are still on the left when it comes to the distribution of wealth, despite him presenting a show on right wing TV channel GB News. He said: "I'm more to the left economically. I think greed is in danger of killing everyone. "People should be paid good salaries, where possible. We should be generous, not try to save money so billionaires can get richer.' The Life of Brian actor also wishes the world would lighten up and enjoy more "good old-fashioned laughter". Cleese added: "I think we need much more laughter in the world. I'm not advocating mean teasing. Just good old-fashioned laughter. There's nothing to beat it.'

Aussie woman's shocking find in her Chinese takeaway
An Australian woman got more than she bargained for when she found an unsual item at the bottom of her Chinese takeaway. TikTokker Shraddha, or shraddyvibes, posted a video to the social media platform detailing the story of how she ended up getting $50 back from her meal from the bizarre find. After eating a portion of the meal, the Adelaide woman kept picking away at the stir fry until she noticed something was off. 'The container was feeling a little bit weird... at the bottom of the container was a working phone,' she explained. 'I pressed on the screen and it said the screen was (too hot), it was still working.' She had come away with a meal and a new phone from the takeaway, a bizarre find to say the least. 'Apparently the chef put the phone down in the takeaway container, and because it was black... it just blended in with the container. 'Then someone else had grabbed the container and put the hotpot on top.' The TikTokker drove back to the establishment and was greeted by apologetic staff — and a cheeky refund. Despite the mishap, the woman elected not to name and shame the restaurant saying, 'mistakes happen'. Viewers also found humour in the incident. Qatar Airways partners with Virgin Australia, directly competes with Qantas
Sky News host Ross Greenwood discusses Qatar Airways' 25 per cent ownership in Virgin Australia, claiming Qantas will now have more international competition after the Australian Government 'knocked back' Qatar Airways in the past.
