AP CM Chandrababu tasks officials for circular economy policy in AP
In a decisive move to enhance waste management in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has tasked officials with finalising a comprehensive policy on circular economy within two months. This initiative aims to establish circular economy parks in three locations across the state within the year and to incorporate advanced machinery in waste-to-energy plants.
During a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat in Amaravati, Naidu emphasised the urgent need to eliminate single-use plastics in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, and 17 other corporations by October 2. He also called for the establishment of 157 reduce-reuse-recycle centres in 87 areas throughout the state.
In recognition of excellence in waste management, the Chief Minister announced the introduction of 'Swachhata' awards. Naidu directed that the backlog of accumulated waste be cleared immediately and demanded an actionable recycling and waste segregation plan within 90 days. The meeting focused on converting waste into wealth and optimising resource reuse, while also reviewing proposals from the Material Recycling Association of India regarding the establishment of Circular Economy Parks.

Mango crisis: Need robust post-harvest ecosystem in Karnataka
A sharp decline in market prices has pushed mango growers in the state into dire straits. The crisis worsens with every passing day as they are unable to recover even the input costs. While their patience is wearing thin, the state government is approaching the Centre for compensation. It is unclear how things will pan out in the coming days. In Karnataka, mango is one of the major horticultural crops, cultivated on approximately 1.39 lakh hectares. Supply chain disruptions have impacted the livelihoods of lakhs of farmers across several districts. A combination of factors – heavy rains impacting fruit quality, pest infestations, increased input costs, insufficient processing units, and restrictions imposed by Andhra Pradesh on the movement of mangoes – seems to have contributed to the current crisis. This is not the first time that mango growers have faced such a situation. In 2018, farmers in Kolar district – which grows around 10 lakh tonnes on 50,000 hectares – faced a similar plight. Unfortunately, that did not wake up the authorities to take long-term measures to develop enough processing units. Farmers continue to depend on pulp industries in neighbouring states Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Andhra Pradesh's ban on entry of mangoes from other states hurt farmers in Kolar the most. Prices of Totapuri variety dropped from Rs 5,000 per tonne to around Rs 2,000 per tonne. In Kolar, Totapuri, a large green fruit used in the pulp industry, accounts for around 70 percent of the crop, while the remaining table varieties include Dasheri, Badami (also known as 'Alphonso of Karnataka'), Mallika, and Banganpalli. Even Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who expressed concerns over the AP government's move, admitted that Karnataka farmers depend heavily on industries in the neighbouring state. 'This abrupt and unilateral move has caused considerable hardship to mango growers in Karnataka, particularly those in the border regions who cultivate Totapuri mangoes in substantial quantities. These farmers have long relied on the robust linkages with Chittoor-based processing and pulp extraction units for marketing their produce,' the CM stated in his letter to AP CM Chandrababu Naidu. The government estimates that the disruption in the supply chain will directly impact the 'livelihoods of thousands of farmers' in the state. However, mango growers in Kolar put that number much higher at around 2 lakh in the district alone. Among others, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Bengaluru Rural are the major districts for mango cultivation.

Revenue ‘grama sabhas' flooded with land related grievances
Hyderabad: The Revenue Department has successfully completed statewide revenue 'grama sabhas' that are aimed at resolving land related issues, following the introduction of Bhu Bharati Act. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy informed that approximately 8.58 lakh applications were received during the 10,000 and odd meetings that were held. Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts topped the grievances list with 67,000 and 61,000 applications, respectively. They were followed by Warangal (54,000), Jayashankar Bhupalapally (48,000) and Nalgonda with 42,000 applications. The Minister said that over 60 per cent of the issues that were raised had been resolved, excluding cases related to Sadabainama. Presiding over the review meeting at the Secretariat, Srinivas Reddy said that the Act is being implemented in a phased manner, since its introduction on April 14. In the initial phase, conducted from April 17 to 30, around 12,000 applications were received through 72 revenue meetings across four mandals. In the second phase that commenced on May 5, 46,000 applications were collected in 414 meetings across 28 mandals. Between June 3 and 20, revenue meetings were held in 10,239 villages spanning 561 mandals, resulting in a collection of eight lakh applications. In aggregate, 10,725 revenue sadassulu were conducted across 593 mandals over the course of three phases. He pointed out that a day preceding the revenue meetings, application forms were distributed free of cost to farmers within their respective villages. Special teams were constituted under the supervision of the MROs. Revenue officials proactively approached the people to collect applications and issue receipts for all submissions. He further noted that till date 3.27 lakh applications have been successfully registered online, and officials have been directed to expedite registration of the remaining applications.

In a boost to industrial development, the Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, approved investment proposals worth Rs 28,546 crore at the 7th meeting of the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB). The 19 approved projects are expected to generate over 30,000 jobs across the this round of approvals, the cumulative investments sanctioned under the Naidu-led government have now reached Rs 5.34 lakh crore, with an estimated 4.73 lakh job opportunities created across all seven SIPB meetings held so The cleared proposals span key sectors including information technology, renewable energy, manufacturing, and hospitality. Notable names among the investors include Cognizant, Adani Energy, Raymond, and Reliance, among others, signaling strong industry confidence in Andhra Pradesh's growth the major investments, Cognizant is set to establish a state-of-the-art IT campus in Visakhapatnam with a Rs 1,582 crore investment that will create 8,000 jobs. Raymond's Rs 1,202 crore proposal will lead to 6,571 jobs, following earlier discussions between IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Raymond Chairman Gautam Hari Singhania.
