Kenyan court sentences men for aiding al-Shabab militants in 2019 hotel attack
The court heard that Hussein Mohamed Abdille Ali and Mohamed Abdi Ali, both Kenyans, sent money and helped acquire fake identification documents for the militants, who died during the attack on the DusitD2 complex.
Al-Qaida-linked militant group al-Shabab, based in neighbouring Somalia, claimed responsibility for the daytime attack, one of its deadliest inside Kenya.

It occurred six years after an attack killed 67 people at Nairobi's Westgate Shopping Mall and four years after an attack killed 147 students at Garissa University in northern Kenya.
Al-Shabab has vowed retribution against Kenya for sending troops to Somalia to fight it since 2011, and continues to stage attacks in Somalia and Kenya.
Judge Diana Kavedza during her sentencing said the judgment spoke for the survivors who deserve closure.
She noted 'one of the most comprehensive counterterrorism investigations in Kenya's history, as law enforcement agencies pursued not only the attackers' immediate associates but also financiers, facilitators and logistical co-ordinators who enabled the attack'.
Foreign nationals, including an American and a Briton, were among those killed in the 2019 attack.

Terrifying underground smuggling tunnel is discovered lurking beneath California warehouse
A massive tunnel meant to smuggle drugs into the US has been recently discovered and shut down by US border officials. The underground corridor is nearly 3,000 feet long, starting under a home in Tijuana, Mexico, US Border Patrol announced Wednesday. On the American side of the border, the tunnel runs more than 1,000 feet with an exit near a warehouse in Otay Mesa, south of San Diego, California. The clandestine crawlway was discovered in April, when it was still under construction, the agency revealed. Despite being unfinished, the Border Patrol described it as 'highly sophisticated,' equipped with electrical with wiring, lighting and ventilation systems. It had also been outfitted with a track system meant to move large quantities of drugs into the US. The Sinola Drug Cartel, formerly led by Joaquin El Chapo Guzman, is more than likely behind the construction. The drug kingpin remains in a federal super max facility in Colorado, however, the mafia he ran remains a dominant force on the border, still considered one of the most powerful in Mexico. The underground corridor was still under construction, but is described as 'highly sophisticated' due to the electricity, ventilation and drug transportation system The Mexican criminal organization is notorious for its use of clandestine man-made channels to move narcotics and people. Since first finding the tunnel, US officials have been able to map it, revealing measures 42 inches in height, 28 inches in width and ran approximately 50 feet underground at its deepest point. Authorities have also been to private residence in the Tijuana neighborhood of Nueva Tijuana where the opening is. Mexican police found freshly laid tile used to hide to opening. The discovery comes at a time when security at the border tighter than ever before, with historically low numbers of border crossings under the Trump Administration. 'As we continue to strengthen the nation's air, and maritime border security, it's not surprising that foreign terrorist organizations would resort to underground routes,' Jeffrey D. Stalnaker, Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the San Diego Sector stated. 'Disruption of narcotics smuggling tunnels is critical to protecting American lives. I'm grateful for the exceptional work of the Tunnel Team agents who placed themselves in danger, as well as the cooperation of our Mexican law enforcement partners.' Since 1993, more than 95 tunnels have been found and decommissioned in the San Diego area. This most recent tunnel will be filled with cement to stop it from being used. In January, another tunnel was found in El Paso, Texas. The passage way, found on January 9 and hidden in a storm sewer system, spans all the way from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico to the Texas city of El Paso . That tunnel was finished and had been used to smuggle people, including those who paid upwards of $20,000 each to guarantee passage into the US. On the Mexican side, the tunnel measures about 1,000 feet and has lighting, ventilation and is reinforced to stop collapses, Mexican officials said.

Chris Brown pleads not guilty to ‘bottle attack' charge
R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. The American musician, 36, is accused of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue, a private members' club in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19 2023. Brown confirmed his name and date of birth before entering his plea, saying: 'Not guilty ma'am' during the plea and trial preparation hearing at Southwark Crown Court. His co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, who turned 39 on Friday, denied the same charge. Both defendants are further charged with assaulting Mr Diaw occasioning him actual bodily harm, with Brown also facing one count of having an offensive weapon – a bottle – in a public place. They were not asked to enter pleas to those charges with a further court hearing set for July 11. Sallie Bennett-Jenkins KC, defending Brown, told the court it has been difficult to discuss matters with her client while he is working. Around 20 people sat in the public gallery behind the dock for Friday's hearing, many of them fans of the singer. A date for a five to seven-day trial was set for October 26 2026. Brown had arrived at around 9am to a large group of photographers outside court, and walked in silence to the building's entrance. The Go Crazy singer, who was able to continue with his scheduled international tour after he was freed on conditional bail last month, performed in Cardiff on Thursday night. He had to pay a £5 million security fee to the court as part of the bail agreement, which is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if they breach bail conditions. Manchester Magistrates' Court heard last month that Mr Diaw was standing at the bar of the Tape nightclub when he was struck several times with a bottle, and then pursued to a separate area of the nightclub where he was punched and kicked repeatedly. Brown was arrested at Manchester's Lowry Hotel at 2am on May 15 by detectives from the Metropolitan Police. He is said to have flown into Manchester Airport on a private jet in preparation for the UK tour dates. Brown was released from HMP Forest Bank in Salford, Greater Manchester, on May 21. Shortly after being released from prison, Brown posted an Instagram story referencing his upcoming tour.

A National Police spokesman in Malaga said: "The National Police is investigating the death of a man and woman found lifeless at a property in Fuengirola. "In the absence of official identification of the bodies, initial inquiries are pointing to them being those of a 43-year-old woman of Colombian origin and her 46-year-old partner of American origin. "Officers went to the property on a residential estate about 1.45pm after a friend of the woman whose body was found reported her disappearance on Wednesday at the National Police Station in Torremolinos. "Her body showed obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm." The suspected killer is believed to have Colombian and US nationality. If the woman's death is confirmed as a gender violence murder, it would be the third so far in the province of Malaga and the fifth in Southern Spain's Andalucia region. Spanish news website El Espanol has reported that Zunilda also had more than 100,000 followers on OnlyFans and Fansly. She finished second in the NPC Worldwide Latin American Championships in 2021. Her coach Branden Rey said in an emotional Instagram post: "We had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world my friend.
