Multiple Amazon items recalled as they pose a 'serious' or 'high' risk of fire
The Office for Products Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a series of recalls for the potentially dangerous products.
Amazon shoppers have been warned over a few potentially dangerous products recently. The Gov.uk website has issued a series of recalls for items that may pose either a "serious" or "high" risk of fire.
The Office for Products Safety and Standards (OPSS) has found that household and clothing items sold via the online marketplace have been pulled after they did not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
One popular heated jacket from iHEAT is said to pose the highest risk due its "poor construction" and non-sufficient protections against thermal runways. The design of the power supply plug is also said to "expose the user to live parts."
Due to the "serious" risk of fire to wearers, the OPSS has advised that shoppers "stop using the product immediately" and get in touch with the distributor. Meanwhile, Amazon is said to have pulled the jacket from its website as a response.
Three other lamps have also been found to present a "high risk of fire" due to the chord anchorage that, over time, will fail to prevent the movement of the supply cords, leading to strain on the components and and connections.
The internal wires on all of the household items were also found to possibly detach and cause a short circuit/overheating, leading to a fire. As a result, all the affected lamps from both brands have been "rejected at the border and destroyed."

The astrologer's prediction comes after a hot-air balloon caught fire and tumbled from the sky on Saturday in Brazil 's southern state of Santa Catarina. Footage shared by local news outlet G1 showed billows of smoke coming from the balloon in flames as it hurtled toward the ground in the municipality of Praia Grande. Have-a-go mow warning as councillor cuts Cotmanhay roundabout
A no mow warning has been issued after a councillor took matters into his own hands and cut the grass on a County Council and Erewash Borough Council councillor Dan Price took his own lawnmower onto the Cotmanhay roundabout at the junction of Church Street, Skeavingtons Lane, Bridge Street and Cotmanhay Road on said: "I am a hands-on councillor. I want to do things differently."The borough council said it deliberately did not mow the roundabout to encourage wildflowers and boost local wildlife - and asked residents to leave maintenance to its teams. But Price, the whip for the Reform UK group on the council, said he took action at the site near Ilkeston after "many complaints" at the overgrown island and has said he will carry out more cutting. He said: "As a father myself, the safety of our children is paramount. Children and parents shouldn't be risking their lives on the school run due to uncut grass."Drivers shouldn't need to risk their lives or the possibility of damaging their vehicles whilst using Cotmanhay island."The island was covered with tall grass and wildflowers with a mown outer circle last August, but the grass had been mown in previous years, when flower displays were planted on the roundabout.
