Austria's JJ won the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on Sunday, with his operatic song "Wasted Love" triumphing at the world's biggest live music television event.
After votes from national juries around Europe and viewers from across the continent and beyond, JJ gave Austria its first victory since bearded drag performer Conchita Wurst's 2014 triumph.
After the nail-biting drama as the votes were revealed running into Sunday morning, Austria finished with 436 points, ahead of Israel -- whose participation drew protests -- on 357 and Estonia on 356.
"Thank you to you, Europe, for making my dreams come true," 24-year-old countertenor JJ, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, said after his triumph in the Swiss city of Basel.

"Love is the strongest force in the world. Let's spread more love," the Austrian-Filipino singer said.
"Wasted Love" saw him hit the high notes while mixing opera and techno.
His Eurovision song, about the experience of unrequited love, blends lyricism and balladry, before ending with a techno flourish.
His performance, broadcast in black and white in 4:3 ratio, captivated viewers around Europe.
"What a fantastic success! My warmest congratulations on your victory," said Austria's Chancellor Christian Stocker, adding: "JJ is making Austrian music history."
The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt also issued a message of congratulations to JJ on Facebook.
"What an incredible moment -- Filipino pride on the European stage!," it said.

Filipino cultural dances take center stage at Araw ng Kasarinlan celebration in Abu Dhabi

The spirit of the Philippines came alive through cultural dances, captivating performances, and remarkable Filipino talent during the celebration of Araw ng Kasarinlan held in Abu Dhabi. Hosted by the Bayanihan Council Abu Dhabi on June 21, the event showcased the rich traditions, artistry, and creativity of Filipinos, bringing together performers of all ages, including schools and various community groups, to celebrate their heritage with pride and passion. Throughout the program, audiences were treated to an array of traditional dances such as the Singkil and Silong sa Ganding performed by Flair Ideal-Paced Academe (FIPA Schools). The OFW Global Movement for Empowerment UAE also delighted the public with the lively Itik Itik dance, while the Abu Dhabi Filipino Dance Club (ADFDC) and The Global Filipino Community & Associates (TGFCA) presented other engaging traditional performances. The Philippine Emirates Private School (PEPS) brought the graceful Tinikling to the stage, complemented by cultural presentations from the Institutional Center for Excellence (ICE), Universal Philippine School (UPS Al Ain), The Philippine School (TPS), and Samahan Ng Mga OFW Sa UAE (SOUAE). In an interview, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ferdinand Ver emphasized the importance of such cultural celebrations abroad. 'It also goes to show na we are free here, very open, we can celebrate freely, we can also share to our Emirati brothers and sisters our culture, our heritage, our creativity,' the Ambassador said. He also noted the crucial role of parents and schools in passing down Filipino culture to younger generations, especially those born or raised in the UAE. '[The] very young, the second, third generation children growing up, learning our dances, our songs, they're getting an attachment. Mga iba, pinangalaki na dito, pinanganak na dito, baka hindi na nila alam,' he said. 'I'm glad yung mga parents nila sa mga Philippine schools who participated, they are inculcating in this new generation of Filipinos, our culture, our art, and our love for our country, love for fiesta, food, everything, and we all come together. It unifies us.'

PH Embassy in UAE invites Filipino community to visit Juan Luna's Una Bulaqueña at Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Philippine Embassy in the UAE warmly invites the Filipino community to visit the iconic painting Una Bulaqueña by revered painter and sculptor Juan Luna, currently on display at Louvre Abu Dhabi. In an interview, His Excellency Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, encouraged the overseas Filipinos, especially the schoolchildren, to take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience a national treasure that celebrates Filipino heritage and artistry on the international stage. 'We are very glad that Una Bulaqueña is here. It is a product of the cooperation between our two countries and our pride in showing the genius of the Filipino,' the Ambassador said on the sidelines of the Philippine Independence Day celebration in Abu Dhabi. 'So it's here, and I invite all of you, we're inviting all the schoolchildren, please, through your schools, pumunta kayo. 'Yung mga administrator, bibigyan namin kayo ng ticket. 'Yung mga bata naman libre,' he added. According to Louvre Abu Dhabi's official website, all visitors under 18 years old can enter free of charge. 'It's not just a matter of pride, but it's a real work of art that you should appreciate. It attaches you to our Philippine history and culture, and it's something that you can be proud of and probably even inspire you,' Ambassador Ver said. He also highlighted the significance of Saadiyat Island as a global cultural hub, hosting not only the Louvre Abu Dhabi, but also the interfaith complex Abrahamic Family House, and the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum. Una Bulaqueña, an oil painting depicting a young woman from Bulacan dressed in traditional Filipino attire, will be exhibited until June 2026. This collaboration marks the first direct partnership between Louvre Abu Dhabi and the National Museum of the Philippines, symbolizing the strengthening cultural ties between the UAE and the Philippines. 'I'm so proud that because of our cultural ties, we have a cultural agreement with the UAE. One of the fruits and the results of that is a loan of one of our national treasures in the very prestigious Louvre Abu Dhabi here in Saadiyat Island,' Ambassador Ver said. Painted in 1895, Una Bulaqueña was declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2008. The artwork is a striking blend of European artistic techniques and Filipino identity during the Spanish colonial period.
