Prosenjit Chatterjee On Sitaare Zameen Par's Theatre-Only Release: 'Aamir Can Take Risks'
Last Updated: Aamir Khan's decision to delay the OTT release of Sitaare Zameen Par is praised by Prosenjit Chatterjee, who believes Aamir understands audience sensibilities. Aamir Khan's film, Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to his beloved 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, finally released on June 20, 2025. The film, inspired by the Spanish hit Champions (2018), has been receiving rave reviews. The Bollywood superstar has decided that his latest film will never be released on any streaming platform. It will have a theatre-only release. Now, Prosenjit Chatterjee has lauded Aamir Khan for his approach to filmmaking. In a conversation with India Today, the veteran actor remarked that Aamir 'can take the risk" because he 'understands the pulse and sensibilities of the audiences." However, he also noted, 'nothing will change." Prosenjit said, 'He can take the risk. He has been serving the industry for many years, and he understands the pulse and sensibilities of the audiences." However, Prosenjit believes that Aamir's bold move is unlikely to bring about any real change. 'To save the theatrical business and cinema, he (Aamir Khan) is a person who can think this way or take this kind of risk. Nothing will change, a film will come on OTT and then on satellite television. That's how it works, that's how we reach our Indian audiences. But let's see how this goes (Sitaare Zameen Par's only-cinema model), and I hope it works," added Prosenjit. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha earlier, Aamir Khan had shared his thoughts on how the fast shift to OTT after the pandemic has affected theatre business. He explained that releasing films too soon online takes away from the cinema experience, and he strongly believes that good films deserve to be seen on the big screen. In a candid conversation, Aamir Khan reflected on how the rise of OTT platforms has impacted the theatrical experience. 'I don't know any business where you offer your product, and if someone doesn't buy it, you tell them—don't worry, I'll drop it at your house for free in eight weeks," Aamir said, adding, 'It doesn't make sense to me. That's the reason many films aren't doing well in theatres." He described the current situation as a 'famine and feast" model where either a few films do extremely well or most don't work at all. He believes the early OTT release trend has weakened the theatrical culture and, therefore, made a conscious choice to keep his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par exclusive to theatres. 'I believe in theatres. I believe in my audience. If you make a good film, people will come to watch it on the big screen." Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy drama film directed by R. S. Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra and Simran Mangeshkar will make their Hindi cinema debut with the film. Vir Das Calls Sitaare Zameen Par 'Funny', Lauds Aamir Khan's Film: 'The Best Comedy'
Last Updated: Vir Das says Sitaare Zameen Par takes away everyone from the constant "action overload" in the Indian films. Comedian Vir Das is really impressed with Aamir Khan's latest release, Sitaare Zameen Par. On Saturday morning, he took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and praised the makers for bringing something fresh and 'meaningful" for the audience. Vir Das called the film 'the best comedy" and stated that it takes away everyone from the constant 'action overload". He also urged everyone to visit the theatres and watch the movie. 'Folks! Go see #SitaareZameenPar Not just because it's REALLY good and breezy. Not just because the ensemble wins your heart. Not just because it's someone of massive stature constantly sharing his platform for meaningful content. Not just because it's a departure from the action overload. But also because it's genuinely funny. In a comedy scene one party has to hold power and drive. That's basic comedy 101. The best comedy surprises you with that choice. It wears its heart on its sleeve and gives power, prominence, and punch lines to those comedy normally doesn't. That makes it WAY funnier. Go see it! In theatres now," he wrote. Folks! Go see #SitaareZameenPar Not just because it's REALLY good and breezy. Not just because the ensemble wins your heart. Kussh Sinha On Being Overshadowed By Dad Shatrughan's Stardom: 'Part Of My Life'
Kussh Sinha, son of Shatrughan Sinha, emphasises his independent journey as a director. Inspired but not defined by his father's legacy. Kussh Sinha may be the son of legendary actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, but he's clear about one thing – his journey is his own. In an interview with News18 Showsha, Kussh spoke about why he chose to be a director, the advice his father gave him, and whether he ever felt overshadowed. 'His achievements inspire me—they don't define me," he shared, saying that while he respects his father's legacy, he's carving a path that's entirely his. 'My decision to become a director was mine alone. My father is a phenomenal actor and politician, but filmmaking attracted me because I wanted to be part of the entire creative process. I studied film, worked with directors, wrote scripts, and even attended acting workshops. It's something I've worked hard towards independently," Kussh shared. However, how did his superstar father guide him to become a director? Asked about the same, Kussh added, 'He often speaks about the importance of patience. In a world where everything's rushed, he reminded me that some things take time. Another lesson he gave me: 'Either be better than the best or different from the rest.' I try to hold onto that." Kussh Sinha also talked about being overshadowed by his father's stardom and explained, 'It's a part of my life, and I respect it deeply. But my journey is my own. His achievements inspire me—they don't define me. Every person has their own path, and I'm walking mine." In the same interview, when we asked Kussh about his directorial debut, he replied, 'When you're starting off, you want to do something unique, something that stands out. I came across the script of Nikita Roy and although we reworked it quite a bit from the original version, I found the core character—this female amateur investigator—very compelling. She finds herself in a world and situation that challenge her entire belief system. The journey she takes, along with the people who join her, was fascinating to me. I felt audiences would find it intriguing too, so we tried to put it together in a contemporary and engaging way. That's why I decided Nikita Roy would be the right film to begin with." Kussh is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film, Nikita Roy, that stars his sister, Sonakshi Sinha, in the titular role. It also stars Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal, and Suhail Nayyar. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on June 27, 2025. First Published:
