SEON expands real-time AML suite with AI-driven risk platform

Techday NZ13-06-2025

SEON has announced the launch of an expanded Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance suite, moving its offerings from fraud prevention into a unified risk management solution.
The updated suite features real-time, artificial intelligence-driven capabilities such as Payment Screening, Transaction Monitoring, and integrated case management functionalities for both fraud and AML processes. The platform aims to provide organisations with a comprehensive tool that streamlines customer screening, alert management, investigations and regulatory reporting.
Many risk and compliance teams currently rely on legacy systems that process data in batches, which can cause delays, siloed data, scattered case files and a lack of comprehensive audit trails. SEON's new solution is designed to address these challenges by consolidating fraud and AML data into a single environment. This integration allows teams to assess risks with greater context, minimise irrelevant alerts, and simplify case handling.
Industry trends
The company's 2025 Digital Fraud Outlook indicates that real-time transaction monitoring has emerged as the leading investment priority for compliance and fraud specialists this year. According to the report, 62% of organisations are prioritising this shift in an effort to strengthen their transactional risk management.
In response, SEON's expanded suite provides granular, real-time alerts intended to reduce the volume of false positives and increase detection accuracy across both fraud and AML use cases. This level of integration is designed to help compliance and fraud teams address threats more proactively while maintaining regulatory standards.
The impact of these enhancements is already being observed by clients. Sebastian Brant, Director of CEX at Casumo, said, "We already use SEON as a key part of how we manage fraud risk at Casumo. They bring depth in proprietary risk signals we can't get anywhere else, flexible tools that we can adapt to any scenario and a level of customer service responsiveness and expertise we simply haven't seen elsewhere. We see the significant value of having one system that can help teams operate more efficiently and effectively."
SEON positions its suite as a unified resource for teams handling both fraud prevention and AML compliance. The goal is to detect risks earlier, resolve incidents with greater speed, and ensure that all records are audit-ready, all within a single interface. This approach eliminates the need to switch between separate systems, removes manual interventions, and reduces reliance on spreadsheets.
Leadership perspective "Risk teams don't need more tools — they need one that gives them a full picture," said Tamas Kadar, Co-Founder and CEO, SEON. "This launch gives fraud and compliance teams a multi-dimensional command center to manage risk in one place. And because we own our data pipeline and can control data accuracy, this means our models deliver more accurate risk decisions."
The evolution of SEON's AML Compliance suite is rooted in customer collaboration and is designed to function within varied regulatory environments, internal policies, and in the face of emerging risks. The solution offers extensive customisation options to fit the unique needs of each organisation.
Key suite features
Among the main features of the platform are tools for identifying fraud at early stages using digital footprint and fraud signals, expediting reviews through AI-assisted customer screening, and providing unified dashboards for fraud intelligence, AML signals, and transaction data. The system also aims to reduce the time compliance teams spend on regulatory reporting with autofill capabilities and AI-generated narratives for Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
The suite facilitates rapid submission of SAR, Currency Transaction Reports (CTR), and Form 8300 documentation to FinCEN, with ongoing plans to expand support for additional regulatory bodies. For leaner teams or organisations seeking additional guidance, SEON offers Managed Risk Services, which provide rule management and expert support.
By combining elements such as real-time digital footprint analysis, device intelligence, and AI-driven rules, the expanded SEON solution is positioned to assist organisations in proactively addressing fraud and money laundering risks while staying compliant with relevant regulations.

Husband of Oranga Tamariki employee gets home detention for role in defrauding agency of more than $2m

Amandeep Sharma in court in May. Photo: RNZ / Tim Brown The husband of a former Oranga Tamariki employee who helped his wife defraud the agency of more than $2 million has been sentenced to 12 months' home detention. Amandeep Sharma pleaded guilty to obtaining by deception and money laundering in May after he and his wife Neha Sharma kept their marriage secret and funnelled public money through his construction company Divine Connection Ltd. Neha Sharma, who was jailed for three years in May, kept the conflict of interest concealed as she approved the company's invoices, got him jobs that could have been carried out by other companies and even carried out work for the company during office hours. Less than two weeks after the Serious Fraud Office knocked on their front door, the couple booked two one-way business class to India, after transferring just under $800,000 overseas. Justice Eaton said he seriously considered jailing Sharma but sentenced him to home detention in order for him to seek rehabilitation and support his daughter. "The attitude you have displayed is worrying. It is indicative of a lack of accountability and does in my view display a degree of entitlement, perhaps arrogance," he said. Serious Fraud Office (SFO) director Karen Chang said Sharma and his wife took advantage of her position of trust for their own financial gain. "It is critical that we disrupt behaviour of this kind, which damages the integrity of our public institutions and threatens our reputation as a safe place to invest and do business," she said. "Corrupt behaviour by public servants is a key focus for the SFO, and we are currently advancing initiatives that will strengthen the New Zealand public sector's overall resilience to fraud and corruption." The SFO filed charges against the couple in 2023 alleging Neha Sharma had provided false references to secure her role at Oranga Tamariki where she managed aspects of properties in the Canterbury region, including maintenance, upkeep, and modifications. Neha Sharma set up her husband's company as a contractor without declaring a conflict of interest and then assigned work to this company over others suppliers, at a cost of $2.1 million to Oranga Tamariki. She then applied for a role at the transport agency, for which she also provided a false reference. The SFO said police seized the funds the couple had transferred. It said proceedings to return them to New Zealand were underway, while the High Court had issued a restraining order over the couple's properties in New Zealand. Chang thanked the police and Indian authorities for their swift action and the co-operation of Oranga Tamariki and the transport agency in the investigation.

International Sanctions - Countering Financing of Terrorism

Kerry Grass, Asia Pacific AML Anti-Money Laundering Compliance requires consideration of geographic risk indicators. How well balanced are AML/CFT indicators? As an AML/CFT compliance specialist, I take interest in events occurring in the Middle East region of the globe. In most recent times the world has witnessed Israel striking civilians, causing death and grievous wounds to innocent men, women and children. Miraculously, I have not yet heard of economic sanctions being issued against Israel. Why is there such an imbalance in AML/CFT international principles? We now see Israel taking aim at Iran - claiming Iran is manufacturing nuclear power plants to develop a nuclear weapon. On this basis, Israel is claiming a right to send bombs into civilian territory of Iran's capital, Tehran. Where is the evidence of this 'suspicion' that Iran is developing nuclear weapons? Iran claims the development of nuclear power plants is to provide its people energy to their homes. Israel now claims it sneaked in weapons of mass destruction into Iran for the purpose of attacking Iran's assets. How well aligned are international sanctions to preventing Israel from committing these acts of terrorism? Is Israel one of the countries taking advantage of New Zealand's weaknesses in having no government oversight in ensuring enforcement of United Nations Sanctions? When will the Western world see Israel as a sanctioned country for its acts of crime and harm to innocent civilians?

Anti-Scam Taskforce Warns Fijians Of New Recruitment Scam Targeting Overseas Job Seekers

The Anti-Scam Taskforce is alerting members of the public to a new wave of recruitment scams targeting Fijians via iMessage herein below: 'Hi, my name is Karina-Jo and I'm a Recruiter. We are currently looking for a part-time assistant to join our team. The online work hours are flexible and you can work remotely. This job only takes 1 hour per day to complete, can be done at any time and place, and the daily salary ranges from $100 to $300. You will be paid immediately at the end of each workday. All you need is a smartphone or computer to start working. You can even work on weekends or any free time. If you are interested, please contact me via WhatsApp: +17408055273 Note: You must be 22 years old or above' The scam typically begins with a message from a supposed recruiter offering unrealistic claims which is a classic sign of fraudulent schemes. Once individuals express interest, they are either asked to provide personal information or to make an upfront payment to proceed with the application. In many cases, this personal information is later used to commit identity theft, hack into accounts, or perpetrate other scams. 'This is not the first time we are seeing scammers take advantage of the high demand in Fiji for overseas or remote employment,' said Chair Taskforce and Minister for Trade, Co operatives, MSMEs and Communication Honourable Manoa Kamikamica. 'As we have said before, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.' The Consumer Council CEO Seema Shandil also urged Fijians to verify all claims before engaging with online recruiters. 'While there are genuine and legitimate online recruiters operating in Fiji, it is essential to approach such offers with a healthy dose of skepticism and to question everything,' she said. The Anti-Scam Taskforce reminds Fijians that legitimate recruiters and employers do not promise exorbitant pay for minimal work, nor do they ask for upfront payments or sensitive personal information during early stages of recruitment. Fijians are urged to remain alert, report suspicious messages, and share this warning with friends and family to help prevent others from falling victim to such scams. If you suspect you have been targeted, contact the Consumer Council of Fiji or the Fiji Police Force immediately. To report scams, contact the toll-free National Consumer Helpline at 155 or email Complaints@
