PENAMPANG: More than 100 builders, contractors, engineers and industry professionals attended the JC Bamford Excavators Ltd (JCB) Live Demo Event hosted by Pansar Heavy Equipment Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Sabah Builders Association (SBA) on Saturday. The event showcased seven advanced JCB's machinery, including the robust 3CX Plus Pro Max Backhoe Loader equipped with a 6-in-1 bucket, ideal for contractors who want multi-functionality in one machine for tasks like loading, grading, digging, and grabbing, along with the Excavator, Telehandler, and other models. The Excavator was built for heavy-duty performance, while the Telehandler excels in high-reach loading. The Mini Excavator stands out with its compact design, agility, and zero-tail swing. The Single Drum Compactor is ideal for road and soil compaction, and the Skid Steer Loader is versatile in tight spaces. The Articulated Boom provides safe and stable access for elevated work. Other than that, the programme also introduced JCB's hydrogen engine technology, a zero-carbon innovation currently available in Europe. Although not yet offered in Malaysia, the showcase aimed to raise awareness and foster discussions on sustainable construction solutions. Pansar Chief Operating Officer David Tai expressed optimism about Sabah's outlook, describing it as a beautiful land with entrepreneurial people. 'There has been so much development. I remember how, when we first moved to our current office, I stood at the balcony with our MD and wondered how we were going to utilise all this space. 'Today, thanks to the growth in the Sabah economy, we already ran out of space. There are so many big projects like the Tenom Dam, Lahad Datu army camp, Sogip expansion, E Steel factory, Pan Borneo and others that give us opportunities to build the business, and improve the lives of Sabahans,' he said. He said this during his speech at the event held at Micheel Construction Workshop, Jalan Lomunu, Kibabaig, here. Also present were SBA Deputy President Johnny Wong, representing SBA President Paul Luk Tzun Kee, Micheel Construction Holding Sdn Bhd Managing Director and Persatuan Keturunan Vun Sabah Chairman Datuk Michael Voon, Sabah Quarry Owners Association President Datuk Ringo Wong, Pansar Regional Manager Rosalind Law and others. David highlighted the strong partnership between JCB and Pansar, noting that both companies share a commitment to delivering top-notch products and services to customers. He said JCB has been pushing boundaries for 80 years and remains a true manufacturer, with almost every part of its machines made in-house. It also maintains a ready stock of parts to support its products. David also expressed his gratitude to customers, saying that their support has made JCB the market leader in backhoe loaders, the top brand in telehandlers, and one of the major heavy equipment players in East Malaysia. Meanwhile, Rosalind said their goal is to make the best machines more accessible to Sabahans. 'And that includes bringing visibility to the global shift toward sustainable technologies,' she said. Johnny described the event as more than just a demo, calling it a significant step forward for Sabah's construction industry. 'This demo proves Sabah's contractors are ready for what is next, and we are proud to work with Pansar to bring this level of innovation and partnership to our members,' he said. A JCB customer described the brand as more than just machinery. 'JCB is not just a machine, it is a partner in progress,' the customer said. An exclusive offer was also launched during the event, giving attendees access to limited-time promotions as part of Pansar's commitment to supporting local builders and contractors. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? New milestone for Sibu with opening of first Petros Multifuel Station

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang officiated at the station run by Emparia Sdn Bhd. 'As many of you know, we are on a journey to make Sarawak a developed state by year 2030. That's not just a slogan, it's a real vision. And to make that happen, we need strong support from small and medium enterprises (SMEs),' he said. 'SMEs are the heart of our economy. You create jobs, keep the local economy moving, and help bring development to every corner of Sarawak including places like Sibu, Kapit, and Mukah, not just big cities like Kuching and Miri.' Delving on Petros, the Pelawan assemblyman said the new station is part of a bigger story about how Sarawak is starting to stand tall, taking charge of the state's own oil and gas resources. 'Petros, as many of you know, was set up not just to do business, but to protect our Sarawak rights. Sarawak has always had special powers under the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963. 'And we are using those powers wisely for the interests and benefit of all Anak Sarawak. Thanks to the leadership of our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sarawak government, Sarawak now has stronger control over our oil and gas industry. That means we can decide what's best for us, make sure more value stays in the state, and more importantly – give more opportunities to our own people,' added Tiang. He said this autonomy is what allows Sarawak to build better schools and offer free tertiary education to Sarawakians next year as well as improve healthcare and infrastructure. 'As we officially launch the Petros Multifuel Station today, we hope that when you see the Petros sign, you feel a sense of pride – knowing that this is our Sarawak brand – and you will support our business and grow this brand together,' he said. JCB, American Express contactless payments accepted at Beijing subway

BEIJING, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Beijing's urban rail transit system has made available contactless fare payments using overseas-issued JCB cards and both domestically and internationally-issued American Express cards, authorities said Sunday. The new service covers all 29 subway lines, including two airport lines, as well as the suburban railway S2 Line, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport. Passengers can simply tap their bank cards on the fare gate sensors for instant access without purchasing tickets or downloading apps in advance. This upgrade follows the Mastercard and Visa payment in September 2024, further enhancing convenience for domestic and international travelers. Beijing Subway has now accepted UnionPay, Mastercard, Visa, JCB and American Express. The easier payment is one of the measures adopted to facilitate foreign nationals traveling to China, as the country has been expanding its visa-free policy to welcome more foreign visitors. In 2024, international travelers made 64.88 million cross-border trips to China, up 82.9 percent year on year. More than 20 million of these were visa-free entries, marking a 112.3 percent increase from the previous year, the National Immigration Administration revealed.

Wan Lizozman vows new chapter for SBA

Wan Lizozman (second left, seated) flanked by Ting (second right) and Wan Khalik (left) with the new SBA office-bearers. KUCHING (June 13): Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar has been elected as the president of the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) yesterday. He won the post unopposed during the state badminton ruling body's Annual General Meeting (AGM) here. In his inaugural address, Wan Lizozman expressed heartfelt gratitude to all affiliated associations for their trust and confidence, pledging to lead SBA with humility, transparency and strategic focus. Being elected unopposed, he described the honour as a profound responsibility and called for continued unity among affiliates to drive SBA forward. Also elected unopposed was Ting Wei Ping as deputy president. In the spirit of continuity and inclusiveness, the new president reaffirmed that all affiliates presidents will automatically serve as SBA vice presidents, ensuring broad representation from across Sarawak. Wan Lizozman also conveyed his sincere appreciation to former president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain for his dedicated leadership and contributions to SBA over the years. He acknowledged Abdul Aziz's role in laying the strong foundation on which SBA now stands. Wan Lizozman also announced the appointments of Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad as the secretary and Jonathan Kho as the treasurer. Both bring significant experience and will play central roles in implementing SBA's renewed strategic direction. Notably, Wan Khalik's appointment also ensures Sarawak's direct representation at the national level as he will automatically serve as a member of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) High Council. This is a significant step forward for SBA in strengthening its voice and involvement in shaping national badminton policies. Acknowledging the recent challenges faced by SBA including the temporary suspension of the association, Wan Lizozman emphasised the urgent need to rebuild and restore public confidence. 'It's time to restore SBA's image and strengthen trust among all stakeholders – from grassroots athletes and coaches to state leadership and corporate partners. 'We will uphold transparency, professionalism and progress moving forward,' he said. Looking ahead, the president outlined his intention to form key working committees covering development, technical and tournaments, commercial and other relevant areas to support SBA's strategic priorities. These committees will be formalised at the upcoming council meeting. On Sukma Selangor 2026, Wan Lizozman also shared his commitment to ensuring that Sarawak's badminton team is well-prepared and competitive. He emphasised the importance of structured development, athlete support and high-performance training to build on the momentum achieved in previous games. Wan Lizozman proudly highlighted that for the first time in history, Sarawak clinched its first-ever Sukma gold medal in badminton during the Sukma 2024 edition, through the outstanding performance of its women's singles player. This historic win serves as a powerful motivation for SBA to elevate the state's performance further at the national level. In his closing remarks, Wan Lizozman emphasised the shared mission to elevate Sarawak badminton — from grassroots development and coaching excellence to producing national-level athletes who can shine on the international stage. 'With unity, focus, and professionalism, I believe we can build a stronger future for badminton in Sarawak,' he said. The AGM was attended by all affiliate badminton associations from across Sarawak and marks the start of a new chapter for SBA. badminton Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar Sarawak Badminton Association
