Intisar De Monlau strikes in QREC-sponsored Qatar Prix de L'Elevage for new connections

Intisar De Monlau (Al Mamun Monlau) made a winning debut in the colours of Wathnan Racing with a determined performance in the Gr.2 (PA) Qatar Prix de l'Élevage at Toulouse on Wednesday.
The four-year-old Purebred Arabian filly is trained by Mme Jean-François Bernard and was ridden by Jean-Bernard Eyquem. This was her first start for new connections, having been purchased following her last outing.
Already a proven performer at this level, Intisar De Monlau added a third Gr.2 (PA) win to her record, confirming her position among the top older fillies (PA) in training.
After a good start, Intisar De Monlau travelled in second behind the early leader Etehad Al Shahania (Af Al Buraq). The pace was not particularly strong, but the field seemed content with their positions down the back straight. Entering the final bend, Eyquem asked his filly to move up, and she quickly joined and passed the leader before entering the home straight.
Intisar De Monlau showed toughness in the closing stages, staying on strongly and holding off late challengers to win by one length.
Hajmah (Al Mourtajez) finished well to take second while Normal Al Maury (Azadi) stayed on for third.
Bred by Robert Bourdette and Succ. Marie-Ange Bourdette, Intisar De Monlau is out of Leila De Monlau (Nizam), a daughter of Amina De Monlau (Monsieur Al Maury).
Leila is a half-sister to Africa De Monlau (Af Al Buraq), winner of the Gr.2 (PA) French Arabian Breeders' Challenge – Pouliches over 2000 metres at three.

Wathnan Racing's Crimson Advocate strikes again in Duke of Cambridge
Tribune News Network Ascot (England) Crimson Advocate (Nyquist) delivered a strong and determined performance to land the Gr.2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes over 1600m on day two of Royal Ascot on Wednesday. The four-year-old mare is trained by John and Thady Gosden and races in the colours of Wathnan Racing, who celebrated their third winner of the week. Ali bin Yousef Al Kubaisi, Ali bin Youself Al Romaihi and Oliver Tait received the trophy on behalf of Wathnan Racing. A field of seven fillies and mares lined up for the Gr.2 contest. Crimson Advocate arrived at Ascot in fine form, having won the Listed Conqueror Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood on her seasonal return. Stepping back into Group company, she confirmed her class and consistency to become a dual Group 2 winner, having won the 1000m Queen Mary in the same meeting last year. After a sharp start, she was soon restrained by her jockey James McDonald at the rear of the field, tracking Soprano (Starspangledbanner), who was racing keenly. The race was led by Running Lion (Roaring Lion), setting an even pace. Turning for home, Crimson Advocate was still last and slightly nudged along, but once angled wide into the clear, she delivered a powerful run. Sweeping past the field on the outside, she quickened impressively to take command and put the race to bed in a matter of strides. She crossed the line with one and a quarter lengths in hand over the favourite, Cinderella's Dream (Shamardal), who ran in the colours of Godolphin for trainer Charlie Appleby and under jockey William Buick. The third place went to Wathnan Racing as well with Fallen Angel (Too Darn Hot), trained by Karl Burk and ridden by James Doyle, finishing only a further head behind. Bred by Whitehall Lane Farm, Crimson Advocate is out of Citizen Advocate (Proud Citizen), a dirt winner over 1200 and 1400m at two, and runner-up in the Gr.3 Azalea Stakes over 1200m at three.

Qatar Basketball Federation unveils 2025 calendar
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has revealed its event calendar for 2025, which features a range of camps and both official and friendly participations for national teams. The initiative is part of a broader strategy designed to improve the technical preparedness of players and to broaden their international exposure in anticipation of forthcoming continental and global competitions. The Qatar men's national team 'A' will commence its training for the FIBA Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025. Preparations will include an external training camp in Turkey, set to occur from June 18 to July 3, 2025. This camp will focus on intensive training overseen by the technical staff, along with friendly matches aimed at enhancing both physical and tactical fitness. The tournament draw has placed the Qatari national team in Group A, alongside Australia, Lebanon, and South Korea, a grouping that observers have characterized as formidable. This presents additional challenges for the Qatari team as they strive to advance to the knockout stage. The winners of the group will qualify directly for the quarter-finals, while the teams finishing in second and third place will compete in playoffs to secure the remaining positions. The team will further its preparations in Doha from July 8 to 14, 2025, during which they will engage in friendly matches against Asian teams, before traveling to South Korea for a training camp from July 16 to 21, 2025. This camp will feature a series of friendly matches from July 18 to 20, offering valuable experience in competing against advanced Asian teams. This tournament will provide the technical staff with an additional chance to evaluate their final preparedness prior to competing in the Asian Cup. Qatar's men's national team 'B' is also gearing up to take part in the esteemed William Jones Cup, organized by the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA) from July 12 to 20, 2025. The team will commence its participation with an internal training camp in Doha until July 10, which will encompass physical and technical assessments to finalize the roster. The William Jones Cup is recognized as one of the oldest unofficial international basketball tournaments, with its inaugural edition launched in 1977. Named in honor of the late FIBA founder, Renato William Jones, the tournament includes national teams and university clubs from across the globe, serving as an excellent platform for interaction and performance enhancement. The B team will also compete in the Arab Youth Championship, scheduled to take place in Nabeul, Tunisia, from July 23 to August 3, 2025, aimed at elevating the level of competition and acquiring further continental experience. At the youth level, the Qatari U-16 team is preparing to participate in the Gulf Cooperation Council U-16 Championship, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain from July 7 to 13, 2025, which will serve as a qualifier for the AFC U-16 Asian Cup Finals, set to occur in Mongolia next September. On the occasion, Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary-General of Qatar Basketball Federation, and Director of National Teams, stated: 'We are heading into an exceptional year of work and preparation, which requires great cooperation from everyone: administrators, players, and the technical staff, to achieve our desired goals. We have developed a comprehensive plan for the national teams of all categories, ensuring the highest levels of readiness through external training camps and participation in specialized tournaments. The men's team's participation in the Asian Cup in Jeddah represents a crucial milestone, and we are confident in our players' abilities to perform to an honorable standard.' Al Kuwari added: 'Our participation in the historic William Jones Tournament and friendly tournaments also confirms our commitment to creating an optimal environment for interaction and development. Al Wasmiyah Racing's Laffan stays unbeaten with Gr.2 (PA) win at La Teste
Tribune News Network La Teste (France) Al Wasmiyah Racing's homebred Laffan (Af Al Buraq) confirmed his exciting potential with a composed and professional performance to win the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC)-sponsored Gr.2 (PA) Qatar Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes at La Teste, France, on Monday. Ahmed AmanAlla Al Sheebani, Director of QREC Support Services Department, presented the trophies to the winners of the Gr.2 (PA) contest for three-year-olds over 1600 metres. The Purebred Arabian colt is trained by François Rohaut and was ridden on the occasion by Jean-Bernard Eyquem. The race brought together a field of seven runners and marked just the second career start for Laffan, who, under Eyquem as well, had made a successful debut last month over the same trip at Bordeaux. Stepping straight into Group company, the son of Af Al Buraq remained unbeaten with another polished display. The early pace was not particularly strong, with Mansour de Faust (Mister Ginoux) taking up the lead and Ghazan Du Soleil (Gazwan) tracking in second. Favourite Laffan was caught three wide without cover, but travelled well despite his position. Eyquem kept him relaxed throughout and began to move closer as they approached the final turn. Once balanced at the top of the straight, Laffan moved up smoothly to take the lead. He responded gamely when asked and maintained a narrow advantage to the line, holding off fast-finishing rivals. Amjaad (Azadi), owned by Al Shaqab Racing, trained by Thomas Fourcy and ridden by Mme Margot Romary, came flying late to take second, beaten only a head. Motus De l'Aigle (Mister Ginoux), representing Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari, trained by Mme Jf. Bernard and partnered by Valentin Seguy, also finished strongly to claim a very close third in a thrilling finish, just a short head further behind. Once again, the top three placings went to Qatari-owned runners—mirroring the result less than 24 hours earlier in the QREC-sponsored Gr1 P/A Qatar Purebred Arabian 4YO Derby at Chantilly. Bred by Al Wasmiyah Racing, Laffan is out of Ajaayib (Mahabb), a winner over 1650 metres at three and 1500 metres at four. Ajaayib is a half-sister to Moshrif (Dahess), a dual Gr.1 (PA) winner over 2000 metres at three and 2200 metres at four, and to Muraaqib (Munjiz), a five-time Gr.1 (PA) winner over 2000 metres at three, four and five, and over 1600 metres at six.
