292 Mysuru students selected for national scholarship scheme
Mysuru: About 292 students from Mysuru district were selected under the National Means Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme examination 2024-25 conducted by the Union govt. Under the scheme, selected students studying from Class 9 to 12 in govt and aided educational institutions will be paid a Rs 12,000 scholarship every year.
274 students were allocated for the district, and 18 students were selected additionally, a release stated. 78 students were selected from Mysuru Rural block, Mysuru South-51, T Narasipura-42, Nanjangud-34, Hunsur-24, Mysuru North-22, KR Nagar and HD Kote-18, and 5 students were selected from Periyapatna block.
Among the selected students, 98 are from Adarsh Vidyalayas, 20 from KPS schools, 58 from govt high schools, and 45 from govt higher primary schools, while 221 students (75.7%) are from govt schools and 71 (24.3%) from aided institutions.
Meanwhile, applications are being received for the year 2025-26. Eligible students who received scholarships in previous years and are studying in govt aided educational institutions in 2025-26, including newly selected students, can obtain bank account details, etc., through the National Scholarship Portal. For details, students can contact respective BEOs.

Sharifasab Chandukhan's sons, Muzammil and Mushir, from Yarinarayanapur village under Gudenakatti GP, died after drowning in a lake on June 19. Station Service Road in Velachery set for a major revamp
The pockmarked Station Service Road in Velachery which has turned into a nightmare for motorists will soon undergo repairs, as the Chennai Corporation is all set set to take up improvement work on the stretch. The service road which was originally constructed by the Southern Railway and runs parallel to the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) from Velachery to Taramani railway station is a boon for motorists to escape the heavily-congested Taramani Link Road to reach Rajiv Gandhi Salai at Taramani. The service road was paved to create access road to Perungudi and Taramani railway stations for the residents of East Velachery. Southern Railway handed over the 3.20-kilometre service road to the Chennai Corporation last year after it faced difficulties in maintaining the road. The civic body had, in the initial stages, installed the street lights for the road more than two years ago. The Station Service road had become unmotorable after it was dug up a few years ago for installing high tension underground power cable from the Taramani substation to Guindy substation for improving the electricity network by Tantransco. S. Harshvardhan, a resident of Madipakkam, said the road has become busy during morning and evening peak hours as hundreds of motorists bound to Rajiv Gandhi Salai use this stretch. However the condition of the road is bad with the concrete poured over the gravel to patch up the dug-up portion of the road having worn out. Half the two-lane road cannot be used. The road becomes slushy with water stagnating in puddles whenever there is even a drizzle as the storm water drain network constructed on both sides of the road has been damaged in several places. Social activist S. Kumararaja said the road was also once used by pedestrians who are now avoiding the uneven stretch riddled with potholes. The macro canal constructed to prevent flooding of residential colonies and help drain into the Pallikaranai marshland has been clogged with construction debris. A senior official of the Chennai Corporation said a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was in the final stages of preparation as the entire upgradation and improvement works are to be executed at a total cost of Rs. 26 crore excluding the road relaying work. For the road repavement component, which is to be executed by Bus Route Road division, the cost comes to Rs. 8.09 crores. While the tender has been opened the work order for identifying the contractor was yet to be finalised. The senior civic official pointing out the road improvement project to be carried out under 'MRTS Sammoga Cholai cum healthwalk' similar to pedestrian plaza would have the following components of well paved footpath, dedicated cycling track, road markings with walkway and kerb paintings, open gym, toilet block and waiting shelters, would completely transform the road. New street lights along with high mast lamps at all the junctions have been proposed. Both the macro and micro drains running along the road would be fully renovated, tge official added.

Thousands participate in International Yoga Day celebrations in Kittur Karnataka
Thousands of people from different age groups took part in the International Yoga Day celebrations across various districts of Kittur Karnataka by performing various asanas on Saturday. District administrations along with AYUSH departments, various organisations, educational institutions had organised programmes at stadiums, open spaces, halls, and atop big buildings as part of the day. Programmes were held even in prisons and on the Hubballi airport premises. Participating in the programme at UNESCO heritage site Pattadakal in Bagalkot district, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi termed yogasanas a good exercise for spiritual, physical, and mental health. 'It not only strengthens our body, mind and inner strength but also has the objective of establishing harmony across the universe,' he said, adding that yoga was contributing a great deal in making the 21st century the 'century of Bharat'. At the programme at the district stadium in Dharwad, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Divya Prabhu G.R.J. termed yoga the biggest contribution of India to the world. 'If man's body and nation is peaceful, then the whole universe will be peaceful. The meaning of the word yoga is uniting our body and mind. Yoga means uniting everyone,' she said. At the programme held in association with Isha Foundation at sub jail in Hubballi, along with inmates of the prison, Shahabuddin Kalekhan Superintendent of Prisons, and the jail staff performed yogasanas. Elaborating on the significance of the day, Mr. Shahabuddin briefed about various reformative programmes being held for the inmates regularly. At the Hubballi airport, director Rupesh Kumar and other staff members took part in the celebrations. In the programme held in coordination with 'Kshamatha Samsthe' and 'Dhanyosmi Yoga Kendra' in Hubbali, hundreds of people took part. Convener Govind Joshi, MLA Mahesh Tenginakai elaborated on the significance of Yoga Day.
