Jenna Ortega reflects on ‘Wednesday' fame, says she felt misunderstood and unhappy after success
Jenna Ortega has revealed that the global success of Wednesday left her feeling unhappy and overwhelmed.
In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, the actor described how fame altered her life after the first season of the Netflix series became its most-watched English-language show, amassing 252.1 million views.
'To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person,' she said. 'After the pressure, the attention — as somebody who's quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary.'
Ortega expressed frustration at being placed under scrutiny, saying, 'I feel like being a bully is very popular right now.' She said she felt 'incredibly misunderstood' as critics and fans dissected her career choices and personality online.
Despite gaining creative opportunities, Ortega admitted to discomfort with aspects of her role. 'I'm doing a show I'm going to be doing for years where I play a schoolgirl. But I'm also a young woman,' she said. 'There's just something about it that's very patronizing.'
The actor has since pursued more varied roles in films such as Death of a Unicorn, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and The Gallerist. 'You just don't feel like you're being taken seriously,' she added.
Ortega remains thankful for the fan support. 'I want to be able to give back to them. But I also want to do things that are creatively fulfilling to me.'
Wednesday Season 2 will premiere on Netflix in two parts from August 6 to September 3.

Punisher crashes Spider-Man: Jon Bernthal joins Tom Holland in Marvel's darkest Spidey film yet
Jon Bernthal is officially returning as the Punisher, this time on the big screen alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film is the latest installment in the Sony-Marvel Spider-Man franchise and is set to be directed by Shang-Chi's Destin Daniel Cretton. Production begins this summer in England, with a theatrical release scheduled for July 31, 2026. Bernthal made his debut as vigilante Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, in Netflix's Daredevil, later leading his own gritty Marvel series. He recently reprised the role in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, and Marvel is further investing in the character with a standalone Punisher film, which Bernthal is also co-writing. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will pick up after the events of No Way Home, which ended with the world forgetting Peter Parker's identity. The cast also sees the return of Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, while Stranger Things star Sadie Sink joins in a mystery role. While plot details remain tightly guarded, Bernthal's inclusion suggests a more grounded tone. Known for his brutal, street-level justice, the Punisher's appearance in the traditionally more family-friendly Spider-Man series raises questions about how Marvel will balance tone and character continuity. Bernthal and Holland share history, having helped each other prepare for their original Marvel auditions while filming Pilgrimage in 2017. With the Punisher officially entering the MCU's cinematic Spider-Verse, fans are eager to see how this dynamic plays out.

Outer Banks season 5 begins filming with cast set for the final adventure
Netflix has officially kicked off production on the fifth and final season of Outer Banks, with new behind-the-scenes images showcasing the cast. The release date for Season 5 remains unconfirmed, but the show is expected to premiere sometime in 2026, likely in the latter half of the year, as filming will continue through 2025. Outer Banks, a fan-favorite series that has amassed over 200 million views, will conclude with its upcoming season. The decision to end the series after five seasons is likely influenced by rising production costs and the increasing fame of its stars, making it more expensive to continue the show. Co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke had always planned for a five-season arc, and they remain on board as executive producers for the final season. The new season will bring back key cast members, including Chase Stokes (John B. Routledge), Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kiara Carrera), Jonathan Daviss (Pope Heyward), Drew Starkey (Rafe Cameron), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Austin North (Topper), and Fiona Palomo (Sofia). However, Rudy Pankow, who plays fan-favorite JJ, is absent from the newly released images, suggesting that his character may not return for the final season. The series will also continue the plotline from the end of Season 4, where Sarah Cameron is revealed to be pregnant with John B.'s child, adding a new dimension to their relationship. Although Pankow is not involved in Season 5, he has landed a leading role in the upcoming film adaptation of Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover. Meanwhile, Cline is set to star in I Know What You Did Last Summer, a new horror film. Despite the loss of Pankow, the remaining cast is ready to wrap up the Pogues' journey with a thrilling conclusion. Fans of the show can expect more updates as production continues, with Outer Banks Season 5 set to premiere in 2026 on Netflix.
