MU syndicate discusses land request for Ullal TP office
Mangaluru: At its syndicate meeting held on Friday,
Mangalore University
decided to write to the state govt seeking its opinion on a request to allot university land for the construction of the
Ullal taluk panchayat office
. The meeting also deliberated on over 40 agenda items, covering academic and administrative matters.Mangalore University, which spans 353 acres, has received requests to allocate land for multiple projects, including a state-of-the-art swimming pool, an Ambedkar Bhavan, and the construction of the Ullal taluk panchayat office.A syndicate member, said that the taluk panchayat office construction was discussed at the meeting.
The member said that land around Konaje is being considered, as it lies at the centre of the taluk. The establishment of the panchayat office within the university premises is expected to enhance the institution's profile and bring more people to the area, which is currently considered relatively secluded. "The plan is rooted in a far-sighted vision to benefit both the university and the local community. There is no ulterior motive behind the proposal," the member added.According to another syndicate member, there is also a request to allocate land for the construction of a swimming pool and Ambedkar Bhavan. "We have not taken this request into consideration at the moment and discussed only the allocation of land for the taluk panchayat," the syndicate member said.K Raju Mogaveera, registrar of Mangalore University, said that the agenda on allocating land to establish the Ullal taluk panchayat office on Mangalore University land was discussed in the syndicate meeting. "As per the procedures, we will be writing to the state govt to seek their opinion. Mangalore University alone has no powers to allocate the land to anyone."Sources added that around two acres of land were requested to be allocated for the taluk office building.

The University showcased several innovations including digital manufacturing for apparel tracking, electronic control unit-embedded system innovation, and smart retrofit solution for manual lathe automation. The University also signed an agreement with Marquee Semiconductors, a leading semiconductor design company in the U.S. for the improvement of the University's curriculum and to provide hands-on experience to the students in advanced design automation tools.

MLA launches construction of Ambedkar Bhavan in Kushalnagar
Madikeri: Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda launched the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan in Kushalnagar on Friday. The social welfare department will construct the facility at Baichanahalli within Kushalnagar municipality limits, with an allocated budget of Rs 2 crore. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA emphasised the importance of remembering national leader BR Ambedkar and called for collective efforts to achieve his vision. The new structure, to be built on a 50-cent plot, will receive additional funding to enhance its appearance, he disclosed. He urged various organisations that conduct separate Ambedkar-themed programmes to unite and work towards realising Ambedkar's vision. He disclosed that comprehensive plans are in place for developing essential facilities in Kushalnagar taluk, including a stadium, govt hospital, revenue building, and taluk panchayat administration office on govt lands, particularly in the Gundurao layout fairground. VP Shashidhar, chairman of the Taluk Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee, acknowledged the MLA's continuous efforts to secure approvals for necessary taluk centre offices. Municipal president Jayalakshmi Chandra, member Jaivardhan, and former member HD Chandru addressed the gathering. The event was attended by municipal councillor Puttalakshmi, leaders KP Chandrakala, Pramod Muttappa, and Manjunath.

Nalanda University eyes major academic push by adding host of Master's programmes, fellowships & global MoUs
With four more Master's programmes being launched this year apart from the two introduced last year, Nalanda University has now six of them within a year to take the total number of such programmes offered at the famed institution to 12. Besides, the University has introduced Post-Doctoral Fellowships, expanding its academic scope and reinforcing its ole as a premier centre of research and higher learning, said a university statement. The Master's programme being offered are MA in Historical Studies, Buddhist Studies, Philosophy, and Comparative Religions, Hindu Studies (Sanātana Dharma), World Literature, Archaeology, International Relations and Peace Studies, Economics, Philosophy and Hindi. On September 1, 2014, the university had started its academic session from the makeshift venue at the International Convention Centre at the Buddhist pilgrim town of Rajgir, barely 10 kms from the ancient seat of learning. On September 19, minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj had formally inaugurated it. However, it was on June 19, 2024 that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated its sprawling state-of-the-art campus net zero blending traditional flavour of the ancient seat of learning with modernity and inspired by the original monasteries. Since May 2023, after the end of an extended six-year tenure of Prof Sunaina Singh as VC, Prof Abhay Kumar Singh, professor & dean, School of Historical Studies, was the interim VC of NU. Incidentally, Sunaina singh had also taken over the charge of the institution in May 2017 from an interim VC amid complete change of its governing board. The university has had a fair share of problems over the years and it is yet to gather desired momentum. In its 11th year, it now has over 400 students, including 224 foreign students from 21 countries, enrolled with Master's Programme for academic year 2024-2025 in eight Masters and PhD programmes. It has also started admitting students through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for the first time to boost intake. The communication office said that the university has deepened its outreach by signing approximately 20 new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs, including nine in the last one year, with global and national institutions.
