COMMUTERS in Glasgow have been dealt a major blow after plans to axe a major bus service was confirmed.
The First Bus service will be scrapped from Sunday, July 13.

First Bus said the difficult decision was down to "insufficient passenger demand"

The travel firm announced it had made the "difficult decision" to scrap the 65 bus service after a 12-month period where it "consistently had insufficient passenger demand".
It said that the 65 bus, which travels between Glasgow City Centre and Halfway in Cambuslang, was no longer sustainable.
Passengers are advised to use the alternative services available.
Chris Coleman, Head of Network at First Bus Scotland, said: 'Removing a route from service is never an easy decision, nor is it one we take lightly.
'Sadly, service 65 is no longer viable due to low passenger demand on the route. For passengers who currently use service 65, there are a number of alternative services available for them to use to get to their end destination.
'Details of these can be found on our website.'
Instead, First Bus is reinvesting the funds into increasing the frequency of other services and improving timetables across Greater Glasgow.
The company has invested more than £3m in bus, driver and timetable resources since April.
This should improve the reliability of services.
More than 30 per cent of their routes are said to be experiencing improved reliability already.

Likely your first destination when arriving on Bute will be Rothesay. The main settlement on the island, it has a population of around 4,300 people. The Victorian seaside resort is home to amazing attractions such as Rothesay Castle and the Bute Museum. The former dates back to the 13th century and is famed for its association with the Stewart kings of Scotland, while the Bute Museum is the place to learn more about the incredible natural history of the island. For those looking to get a drink in the sun, one of the top pubs in Rothesay is The Galatea Bar. The venue serves up a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits, ciders, and soft drinks. According to The Galatea Bar Facebook page, the pub features a "sun trap beer garden". There are numerous benches where patrons can enjoy an outdoor drink, while there are also parasols if an unexpected rain shower hits. Mount Stuart features around 300 acres of gardens with amazing plant collections to explore, while St Blane's Chapel consists of the well-preserved ruins of a church dating back hundreds of years. If you are interested in heading to Bute for a staycation this summer, the island can be reached via ferry. There are regular services between Rothesay and Wemyss Bay, which has a rail link to Glasgow. The hotel has drawn the attention of local media with a Chinese magazine featuring the unusual hotel which triggered a discussion on social media about the ethical use of the animals. In turn, the publicity drew the attention of the local forestry bureau who sent a team of inspectors round to investigate. A statement issued by the bureau said it had ordered the immediate halt to all 'close contact' activities with the red pandas and added it would report back on any further findings. Brit YouTube stars Ben and Reanne Dridger, from Portsmouth, who update their fans with vlogs of their travels through China, loved their encounter with the red pandas when they visited the hotel in April. Speaking to the camera, Ben said: 'China is the only place in the world where you can have a panda delivered to your room to sit on your bed with you,' before the camera panned to Reanne who was seen hand feeding pieces of apple to the friendly animal. Reanne then remarked: 'That's so cool,' as the red panda, one of four kept by the hotel, crawled across the bed and sniffed the camera. Footage has also been posted by Chinese guests on the country's popular social media site Douyin. The Global Times, a communist party newspaper, though has put out a severe warning that the practice could be in breach of animal rights. The hotel has responded to concerns over the treatment of the red pandas possibly being unhygienic or dangerous to children by saying the animals were all vaccinated and children had to be accompanied by an adult. Red pandas are currently listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and estimates say there are less than 10,000 living in the wild. Despite their name they are not closely related to the larger black and white giant pandas which live in the same region of China. Red pandas are part of the extended raccoon family. Before a ban was introduced in 2018, close contact with giant pandas, including photographs with cubs, was common practice.
