Ministry of home affairs to facilitate career progression of ex-Agniveers

NEW DELHI: Home ministry has officially been tasked with coordinating activities for further progression of ex-Agniveers with other central departments as well as with states.
A gazette notification issued by Cabinet secretariat Monday amended Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, to add a new entry no 19, 'coordinating activities for further progression of ex-Agniveers', under sub-heading 'department of states' and heading 'ministry of home affairs'.
"MHA will now coordinate with various ministries and departments of govt and also with state/UT govts to facilitate career progression of Agniveers," said an MHA official.
A dedicated online portal will be set up for the purpose.
Agniveers are signed up by defence forces for a four-year stint, after which 25% of them are absorbed and the remaining 75% demobilised. It is a conscious move on part of Centre and states to incentivise youths to choose a short career in the armed forces by offering them a long-term, follow-up career.
Hiring ex-Agniveers will benefit CAPFs and state forces since they will get trained personnel.

Change in train interval timing was made for morning hours until commencement of passenger services. Currently, summer vacation holidays are underway in government and private schools of most of North Indian states. However, Bihar Education Department issued orders to all District Education Officers to open schools from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM on the June 21 to mark 'Yoga Sangam.' In view of International Yoga Day, over 70 thousand government schools have been instructed to remain open, and all teachers and school students will be participating in Yoga Day activities today.

Sanctions on hold for bldgs taller than G+8 within 20 km of airport: Hakim

1 2 3 Kolkata: Buildings taller than G+8 will not be sanctioned by KMC and all municipalities that sanction building plans within a 20 km radius of the airport till the Airports Authority of India (AAI) clears the air about a height restriction for smooth flight operations, KMC mayor and urban development minister Firhad Hakim said on Friday. Hakim has asked the KMC buildings department and heads of all other municipalities to keep on hold sanctions of all buildings that have more than nine floors. "We need to keep the height of the buildings near the airport under check for the time being, especially within the 20km radius of the facility. We are waiting for a guideline from AAI; until then, the height restrictions will be in place," said Hakim. Reacting to the development, Siddharth Pansari, Credai Kolkata president and the Primarc Group director, said: "Firstly, safety and security can never be compromised. This appears to be an interim measure based on some national intervention. I am sure when detailed guidelines are made, there will be clarity on this subject. This fundamentally would be on a flight path and cannot be a general radius for metropolitan cities. In the wake of the Ahmedabad tragedy, KMC has alerted the executive engineers in the boroughs to strictly adhere to the AAI guidelines. As per the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Height Restrictions for Safeguarding of Aircraft Operations) Rules, 2015, no construction or plantation activity is permitted within a 20km radius of an airport's Aerodrome Reference Point without prior clearance. Builders, developers, and even individual property owners must secure a mandatory NOC before undertaking any such activity. The regulation lays out detailed height limits depending on the area's proximity to the airport and its operational zones—namely, approach, take-off, transitional zones, and others demarcated in Colour Coded Zoning Maps (CCZM), officials said. Construction plans within these marked zones must either conform to the specifications in the CCZM or obtain a valid NOC. The maps offer a ready reckoner for permissible heights unless the site lies in a red-flagged zone, where NOCs are compulsory, a senior official said. According to a KMC buildings department official, maximum vigilance would be maintained in the Cossipore-Dum Dum belt, which is closer to the airport, and the areas near Behala Flying Club. According to a modified building rule, the KMC executive engineers need to pass even a G+1 building in the Cossipore-Dum Dum belt due to its proximity to the airport. As far as sanctioning plans in other areas are concerned, KMC has asked the executive engineers to go by CCZM and, in case of any doubts, refer the matter to the seniors. "In most cases, we need to keep a check on the G+6, G+7, and G+8 buildings that are located within the specified 20km radius. Any buildings crossing this limit will require special sanction from our side," said a civic official.

Last Updated: NPCI has directed banks to enable real-time PAN and bank account validation for the income tax e-filing portal using a dedicated API to enhance verification speed and accuracy. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed all member banks to enable real-time PAN and bank account validation for the income tax department's e-filing portal. According to a circular issued by NPCI, government departments will now be able to use a dedicated API service to verify key customer details such as PAN status, account validation, and account holder name directly through banks' Core Banking Systems (CBS). This step is expected to enhance the speed and accuracy of identity verification for tax and subsidy-related processes. 'This API will be used by government departments to verify the customer account details like PAN validation/Account Status Validation/Account holder name validation from their bank CBS," the circular noted. Banks Asked to Prioritise Integration All NPCI member banks have been advised to treat the implementation as a priority task, given that the service is being extended to the Government of India. 'As this is a service provided to the Government of India all the member banks are advised to necessary steps for implementation on priority," the NPCI added. Technical specifications and guidelines for the API integration will be shared separately with the banks to help them align with the required systems. NPCI also clarified that the circular can be shared internally by banks and financial institutions to ensure all stakeholders are informed. 'Technical specifications and comprehensive integration guidelines for the NACH PAN & Account Verification API shall be shared separately with the banks," it added. Why This Matters This integration will make processes like income tax refunds, direct benefit transfers, and other financial verifications faster and more reliable by removing delays and errors caused by manual or outdated systems. It also comes at a time when the government is pushing for increased use of API-based real-time data exchange to boost governance and financial inclusion.
