SGPC chief gives ₹5 lakh relief to kin of 4 Sikhs killed in Poonch shelling

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami visited Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday to meet the families of the four Sikhs killed during Pakistan shelling last week.
Dhami participated in the Antim Ardas (prayer ceremony) and handed over ₹5 lakh cheques to the bereaved families. He was accompanied by SGPC members Rajinder Singh Mehta, Surjit Singh Bhittewad, Mahant Manjit Singh, and assistant secretary Harbhajan Singh Vakta.
Dhami said the outcomes of war are never in favour of humanity and that its devastating impact is borne by innocent people for generations. The SGPC president also appealed to the Union Government to adopt a more inclusive approach towards the Sikh community in J&K, and grant them minority status.
Dhami also urged the J&K chief minister to ensure the well-being of the affected Sikh families and provide government jobs to at least one member of each family. Mahant Manjit Singh announced that he will bear the educational expenses of the children of the affected families.

He was killed by Indian police in 1992. In 2000, Ripudaman Singh Malik, a businessman based in Vancouver, and Ajaib Singh Bagri, a mill worker from British Columbia, were charged with offences including mass murder and conspiracy. But in 2005, after a long court process, both were cleared of all charges. The judge cited problems with the facts presented and questions over the reliability of key witnesses. The verdict came as a blow to the families of the victims. Reyat was the only person who ended up being found guilty in connection with the bombing. He was later convicted of lying under oath during the trial of Malik and Bagri, which led to a further prison sentence. On June 23, 2018, Ekkapol Chantawong, a 25-year-old coach, took his Thai youth team, the Wild Boars, to explore a cave he had visited before. The plan was to spend around an hour inside. Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurates Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Trust office in Yamunanagar

Chandigarh: Union housing, urban affairs and power minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the office of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust built at PWD Rest House Vyaspur in Yamunanagar. During a meeting chaired by the Union power minister with the members of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust, detailed discussion was held on initiating the construction of the Lohgarh Memorial. A monitoring committee and expert committee will monitor the construction process of the memorial, and the issue of organisation of cultural programmes related to Sikh heritage was also discussed. Former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar was nominated as the chairman of the monitoring committee. The closing ceremony of 'Swarnim 70 Years' was organised by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh at the Rishikul Ayurvedic College Auditorium. On attending the Youth Workers Conference, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, 'Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh has not limited itself to just protecting the interests of labourers, but has also transformed the labour force into a pillar of nation-building. By integrating cultural consciousness, moral values, and social responsibility, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh has paved the way for turning 'Shram Yogis' into 'Rashtra Yogis.' CM Dhami announced the establishment of the Madan Mohan Malviya State Research Institute at the historic Rishikul premises in Haridwar. The institute aims to promote tourism, spirituality, education, Ayurveda, astrology, and meditation. He noted that after Independence, despite the country's limited resources, Indian workers played a pivotal role in building the nation. 'Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government is working on the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and has launched several schemes focused on the welfare of workers,' he said. Highlighting welfare initiatives, CM Dhami said crores of workers have been registered on the government's labour portal, and facilities like ESI, EPFO, and insurance are now being provided. He also mentioned that 75 meritorious children of workers are receiving free technical education, lodging, and meals at the Rudrapur Technical Institute. 'Workers are not just the engines of labour but also architects of the nation,' the Chief Minister said, underlining the critical role of youth in India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He pointed out that with 65 per cent of the population below 35 years of age, India stands as the world's youngest country, and programmes like Skill India align youth with employment and self-reliance. Emphasising the Centre's commitment to cultural heritage and worker welfare, Dhami said major reforms have been undertaken, including simplifying 29 complex labour laws into four comprehensive labour codes. Through the e-Shram portal, crores of unorganised sector workers have been formally brought into the system. 'Under the Shramyogi Maandhan Yojana, unorganised sector workers are being provided a pension of Rs 1,000. Our government is ensuring that no worker is neglected or left out of the mainstream of development,' Dhami said. He added that the state government is committed to executing schemes such as housing, health insurance, social security cards, and various initiatives under the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
