R. Kelly's lawyer claims prison staff tried to ‘kill him' after rapper was rushed to hospital for overdose
Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly was rushed to hospital after overdosing on medication in prison, with his lawyer claiming staff were trying to 'kill him'.
The disgraced rapper suffered an overdose and passed out after being administered medication by staff at Butner Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina, according to his attorney in a court filing.
The 58-year-old - whose real name is Robert Kelly - is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence after being convicted on multiple federal charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.
The rapper's attorney said in the filing that Kelly had been put into solitary confinement on June 10 with his anxiety medication, and then was directed to take more on the same day - federal prosecutors have denied this.
According to the filing, the former superstar reported that he was feeling 'faint' and 'dizzy', before he 'started to see black spots in his vision' before he passed out and was taken to hospital.
The singer of hit song 'Ignition' spent the next two days in hospital, as his attorney alleged that the prison staff 'gave him an amount of medicine that could of killed him'.
This episode comes following a recent appeal from Kelly to Donald Trump asking to be pardoned from his sentence - due to fears that
officials from the Bureau of Prisons were plotting to murder him.
Kelly's lawyer claimed that the once rapper has been treated poorly by the prison staff and was not given the required treatment for blood clots.
While in hospital, the doctors reportedly found blood clots in his leg that will need surgery - although he was denied surgery and released from the hospital after several days.

Stereophonics star Kelly Jones ditches junk food and alcohol from tour rider
Kelly Jones no longer has junk food and alcohol in his tour rider. The Stereophonics frontman has confessed that he opts for healthier snacks backstage in order to make sure that his jeans still fit him. Speaking to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column ahead of Stereophonics' headline slot at the Isle of Wight festival this weekend, Kelly said: "The Nineties were crazy – a totally different social situation. It's like another planet now. "I think there are some things on our rider that are still the same as back then – because nobody has bothered to change it. "There's always beer and wine. It used to be 12 boxes of pizza and a crate of lager. But when your jeans stop fitting you, you've got to get that right – those requests don't work at 50!" The Dakota artist revealed that the rockers now have gym equipment and organic food ready for them when they come off stage. Kelly explained: "Let's say the takeaway order at the end of the night is a little more extravagant and healthier these days. "Now there's more gym gear backstage – that was definitely not there in the Nineties. "Like a weight bench and stuff. It sits there – it gathers clothes a lot. "We all still travel on the bus together, we all still go out for dinner together, we go for a drink after together. "Thankfully, we all get on – not every band does – and we've had the same crew for 25 years, so it's a family-orientated vibe." Meanwhile, Kelly revealed earlier this year that he turned down the chance to see a Stereophonics tribute band who have a lead singer called "Belly Jones". The Welsh rocker describes it as a privilege when people cover the band's music but chose not to attend a working men's club in his homeland to watch the tribute act over Easter. The 51-year-old musician told The Dave Berry Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio in April: "I wake up on Sunday mornings, and people send me clips of people at weddings and bars and pubs singing my stuff a lot. "And when I went home for Easter this weekend to see my family in Wales, my cousin said, 'Do you want to come up to the working man's club?' I said, 'Why? What's happening? And she said, 'There's a Stereophonics tribute band playing.'" He continued: "I think the singer, he's a big guy, he's called Belly Jones. So I said, 'No'. My missus was like, 'No, let's go.' Take the kids, have a good night."

R. Kelly hospitalised after prison overdose, lawyers claim ‘assassination plot'
Lawyers for R. Kelly have claimed the convicted sex trafficker was recently rushed to the hospital after overdosing in prison on medications given to him by prison staff. According to a new filing by Kelly's lawyer, Beau Brindley, and widely reported by US outlets, the 58-year-old singer, currently serving 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and racketeering, collapsed on Friday at the federal correctional institute in Butner, North Carolina and was transported to Duke University hospital. Kelly's lawyers allege that, on June 10, the three-time Grammy Award winner was placed in solitary confinement and was given medication by prison staff, along with 'instructions to take it'. According to the filing, Kelly awoke in the early morning hours of 13 June, feeling 'faint' and 'dizzy', and 'he started to see black spots in his vision'. 'Kelly tried to get up, but fell to the ground,' the filing alleges. 'He crawled to the door of the cell and lost consciousness.' The legal filing also claims that Kelly overheard prison officers discussing the situation. According to the documents, during the ambulance ride to Duke University hospital, Kelly allegedly overheard a prison officer say: 'This is going to open a whole new can of worms.' Loading At the hospital, Kelly's lawyers claim he 'learned that he had been administered an overdose quantity of his medications that threatened his life'. Kelly's hospitalisation comes after his legal team filed an emergency motion last week, alleging three officials at the prison came up with a plot to have Kelly killed by leaders of a white supremacist gang to prevent the release of damaging information on prison officials. After that filing, Kelly was moved to solitary confinement, his attorneys say.
