India and England are all set to lock horns in a five-match Test series, this time for a new prize called the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy . However, since the renaming of the Pataudi Trophy was announced, there have been concerns regarding the preservation of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi's legacy, after whom the cup was originally named.
Earlier, reports stated that Sachin Tendulkar himself approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to ensure that Pataudi's name remained associated with the series. RevSportz has now confirmed that the winning captain will be awarded the Pataudi Medal for Excellence, which will help preserve Pataudi's legacy.

According to the report, International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah also played a key role, alongside Tendulkar, in convincing the two boards to keep the Pataudi name connected to the series. Shah also spoke to the Pataudi family to keep them informed and secure their consent.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will reportedly be unveiled on 19 June, a day before the start of the first Test match in Leeds. Earlier, it was supposed to be launched on 14 June, but due to the tragic Air India plane crash , the event was postponed.
'Given the tragic events in India, the announcement may wait a while out of respect (for the lives lost). The BCCI are still deciding on the right time for the announcement. The announcement had been kept flexible due to the tragedy,' an ECB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Tendulkar and Anderson were originally scheduled to attend the unveiling event in person, but due to the unfortunate plane crash in Ahmedabad, the Indian legend is said to have requested that no elaborate function be held. Instead, pre-recorded videos of Anderson and Tendulkar will be aired, and a press release will be issued.
Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi captained India to nine wins in 40 Tests including their first-ever overseas victory, in New Zealand in 1967. Mansur's father Iftikhar, was also a cricketer and had represented both India and England, further signifying the Pataudi royal family's significance when it comes to the cricketing rivalry between the two nations.
