An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation on Sunday called on Bahrain's Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and discussed India's stance against terrorism . The delegation, led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, is one of the seven multi-party delegations India has tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community on Pakistan's designs and India's response to terror, especially after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26."India & Bahrain share a deep, historic friendship built on trust, shared values & mutual respect. ... Together in the fight against terrorism, we discussed matters of mutual interest & India's firm commitment to combat terror in all its forms," Panda said in a post on X.The meeting took place at the Gudaibiya Palace here in the capital city, Manama.The multi-party MPs also met Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, the chairman of Shura Bahrain, the upper house of the legislative body of Bahrain, and "underscored India's resolve to fight against terrorism and strengthen bilateral ties," said a post on X by the Indian Embassy in Bahrain.The delegation also visited Bab Al Bahrain, a historic landmark in Manama, which Panda described as a "symbol of Bahrain's rich cultural heritage and enduring ties with India."The delegation reached here on Saturday for a two-day visit. During the visit, they also met prominent Indians and civil society members."We are here at a difficult time... The difficulty has to do with the latest terror attack in Pahalgam and the hostilities with Pakistan thereafter."We come here in friendship to seek support. 26 men were killed at short range in front of their wives after verifying their religion. India has faced many such terrifying terrorist attacks... Our problem is that our terror attacks are all coordinated by one of our neighbours," he said during the meeting on Saturday.He also added, "Bahrain and India have a deep and long-standing relationship... I would like to thank the government of Bahrain for the consistent stand that it has taken. We truly appreciate Bahrain's strong comments during recent developments."AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, also a member of the delegation, while answering a question during the meeting, said, "Our government has sent us here, and various other delegations comprising all party members across various parts of the world, so that the world knows of the threat that India has been facing."The Panda-led delegation will head to Kuwait on May 26 as part of the diplomatic outreach to apprise prominent personalities and the Indian community there about India's stance against terrorism. Besides Panda and Owaisi, former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, ex-National chairperson of the National Commission for Women and Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma are also among the delegation members.Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. India carried out precision strikes as part of Operation Sindoor on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7.It was followed by Pakistan's attempt to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions.The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.

As Indians leave Israel, Odia student decides to stay back
1 2 Rourkela: In the midst of escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, compounded by the US' recent bombing of nuclear sites in Iran, an Odia student has taken the decision to stay back in Israel even as other Indians are returning home. Despite the Indian govt's efforts to evacuate its nationals from the conflict zone, Taranga Dehury, a 29-year-old post-doctoral researcher at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has opted to stay back, hoping the situation will stabilise soon. The Indian Embassy in Israel initiated an evacuation operation on Sunday, but Dehury has chosen not to register for the process. The Hebrew University, along with other institutions, had temporarily closed doors before reopening last Thursday. But following the US bombing of Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday, Israel's Home Front Command issued new guidelines, restricting activities to essential services and suspending educational activities and gatherings. Like Dehury, Satyaranjan Biswal, another student from Odisha studying at the Hebrew University, has apparently decided to stay back in Israel. But despite repeated attempts, he could not be contacted.

CM: businesses will no longer need police licence to run operations
Hotels, swimming pools, guest houses, video game parlours, auditoriums, and amusement parks in Delhi will no longer require licences from the police to be operational, said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday. However, municipal corporations and the departments concerned should now grant permission for their functioning. On June 19, Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena had approved an order withdrawing the requirement of the Delhi police to issue licences for seven business sectors under the Delhi Police Act, 1978. Businesses will now be exempted from having to obtain a no-objection certificate from the police. The exemption encompasses entities such as hotels, motels, guest houses, restaurants (eating houses), swimming pools, auditoriums, video game parlours, discotheques, and amusement parks. The licensing power will now be transferred to local bodies such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, or Delhi Cantonment Board. The move comes after hotel and guest house operators sought the repealing of licences during a meeting with Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Industry Brijesh Goyal and Industries Minister Manjinder Sirsa. Ms. Gupta said the reform is a direct reflection of the government's 'visionary approach' and in line with the BJP-led Centre's 'minimum government, maximum governance' and Ease of Doing Business policies. 'This decision is not only a big step towards administrative reform but also the result of the policy and thinking of the Central government,' said the CM. 'The Centre is adopting ease of doing business for the benefit of the country, which is being implemented in Delhi,' she added. Ms. Gupta said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has categorically said the police force should be relieved from non-core duties so that their energy and resources can be focused on law and order, security, and crime control. The subject of policing in the national capital lies under the Home Ministry. 'We want to make Delhi not only the political capital of India but also a model of good governance. That is the mission of our double-engine government,' the CM said.

BJP MLA slams Cong for ‘pro-terror' stand
