Kim Soo Hyun loses millions in assets to home appliance brand after luxury apartment seizure; fails to pay damages

Indian Express14-06-2025

Kim Soo Hyun's legal trouble isn't slowing down anytime soon. After losing one of his four luxury apartments to skincare company CLASSYS, the K-drama actor has now reportedly lost millions worth of assets to another advertiser. Cuckoo, a popular home appliance brand in South Korea, dropped him as brand ambassador after his dating controversy with late actor Kim Sae Ron gained traction. He had worked as their exclusive model for over a decade and was recently signed to represent their Chinese subsidiary.
The lawsuit was filed by the company's electronic sector, which brings in over 90% of Holdings' revenue. On April 24, they filed a request to freeze about 100 million KRW (roughly $73,500 USD) worth of Kim's personal assets, including his bank accounts and loans, and the paperwork was approved on May 20, according to K-media outlet New Daily.

Earlier, Kim's legal team moved to the National Forensic Service to challenge Garso Sero's evidence, based on which multiple advertisers sued him last month. The YouTube channel's host, Kim Se Ui, had accused the actor of being in an 'inappropriate relationship' with the late Bloodhounds star and released photographs, audio recordings, and more to back his claims, most of which were labelled as fabricated by Kim's agency, Gold Medalist.

On May 2, the advertiser filed another lawsuit, this time demanding 850 million KRW (around $625,000 USD) in damages. This time, they brought in Homesys (a rental services arm), their Malaysian subsidiary, and other CUCKOO Holdings affiliates to file a joint lawsuit against both the actor and his one-man agency, demanding 2.03 billion KRW (around $1.47 million USD) in damages. The case was referred to the 22nd Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court. Meanwhile, the earlier 850 million KRW claim was assigned to the 7th Civil Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court. So now, Kim's legal team will have to fight the same lawsuits in multiple courts. Meanwhile, one of its subsidiaries reportedly filed a 50 million KRW (about $36,600 USD) provisional seizure against Gold Medalist. This was also approved by the court on May 27.
This was followed by an April 25 lawsuit from a cosmetic company that sued the actor, demanding 510 million KRW (roughly $367,000 USD), though the name of the company has not been disclosed yet. The move came just days after a medical aesthetics company seized one of his posh properties in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, freezing it for 3 billion KRW (around $2.21 million USD).
Meanwhile, Kim's fans across the globe have accused these advertisers of riding the actor's success during his peak era and now abandoning him over a controversy that hasn't reached a conclusion yet, causing secondary harm. They stress that these companies are targeting someone who is already facing false allegations. The fans have launched a campaign to boycott these brands.

2 Nepalese among 4 held for cyber fraud

1 2 Jaipur: Four men, including two Nepalese nationals and two Delhi residents, were arrested from a city hotel for their involvement in a cyber fraud operation with links to Chinese cybercriminals. The gang is believed to have facilitated fraudulent transactions worth Rs 24.4 crore, with complaints registered on the national cybercrime reporting portal from several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. Police identified the accused as Lal Dorge Tamang and Suaj Tamang from Nepal, and Pawan Jain and Abbu Shahma from Delhi. The arrests were made following an FIR lodged earlier in 2025. Twelve mobile phones, one laptop, and three cheque books were recovered from the suspects during the operation. According to DCP (Crime) Kundan Kanwaria, the racket was led by Lal Dorge Tamang, a resident of Sindhupalchowk in Nepal. He created a well-organised network that supported Chinese cybercriminals by supplying them with mule bank accounts. These accounts were used to route illicit funds, and the accused managed them through social media platforms and encrypted messaging apps like Telegram. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The gang's modus operandi involved renting bank accounts from individuals in exchange for a commission. The account holders were instructed to install a suspicious APK file on their phones. Once installed, the app gave Chinese handlers remote access to the devices, allowing them to control the bank accounts and conduct transactions from afar. The commissions were paid in USDT, a cryptocurrency commonly used in illegal online operations. The suspects earned between 2 to 5 percent per transaction, with Lal Dorge receiving 4 to 5 percent from the Chinese operators. He, in turn, passed on 2 to 2.5 percent to the mule account holders. Police received a tip-off about suspicious individuals staying at Hotel Sanjay Palace near Polo Victory in Jaipur. Upon investigation, they found that these individuals were involved in procuring and renting out bank accounts to cybercriminal groups based in China. The investigation also revealed that Pawan Jain, a resident of Rohini North in Delhi, was in regular contact with a woman named Sushma, believed to be the mastermind behind the gang. Sushma, currently based in Dubai, served as the key link between the Chinese groups and their Indian and Nepalese associates.

J&K: ACB arrests tehsildar for taking Rs 1 lakh as bribe for nod to cut trees

The Anti-Corruption Bureau of J&K Saturday said it has arrested a tehsildar for allegedly demanding Rs 1 lakh as bribe from a Handwara resident for permission to fell walnut trees. An ACB statement said the complainant accused Ghulam Rasool Bhat, tehsildar, Kralgund, of taking Rs 50,000 as advance and still not issuing the permission for cutting the trees. The complainant said he told the revenue official that he could not afford to pay the money, but the tehsildar insisted on full payment. Pointing out that a discreet inquiry was initiated into the matter, the statement said after verification of facts, a case was registered against the tehsildar and his tout Rafi Ahmad Lone. An ACB team caught two men and during a search of the tehsildar's premises, recovered Rs 50,000 allegedly paid by the complainant, besides another bundle of Rs 79,000. The accused were presented before a court which remanded them in police custody for seven days, the agency said. In another case, the ACB arrested a police head constable, Roshan Din, who was on the run after being spotted taking the bribe. Din had demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant for deleting his name from a list of accused persons in an FIR despite the fact that the former had provided CCTV footage and attendance at the factory on the date of occurrence to prove his innocence, said the agency. However, while accepting the bribe from the complainant, Din sensed the presence of ACB officials on the spot and fled, the agency said, adding he threw the money in the bushes on the national highway near Palli. The money was recovered by independent witnesses and seized by officials, the agency said. Din was posted at Kathua police station, said the ACB.

Yoga day celebration brings families together for wellness & fun in Bengaluru

The Times of India's International Day of Yoga celebration turned into a vibrant wellness fest on Saturday as families, especially women and children, came together for a morning filled with movement, mindfulness, and a whole lot of energy. The event was organised at Mantri Webcity, Hennur. Held to promote holistic well-being, the event brought together a rich mix of traditional and modern fitness formats. From calming asanas to high-energy dance routines, the session had something for everyone. Residents were treated to a blend of practices, including Ashtanga yoga, led by in-house trainers Naina and Deepti, Vedic yoga, Kundalini yoga with Shri Manjunath Sampath Guruji, and even Chinese yoga by Falun Dafa. Fitness took a fun turn with a lively Zumba session by The Swingers Dance Studio, which had everyone moving to the beat by the end of the programme. What started with slow stretches and deep breathing soon turned into an energetic celebration of wellness. Kids were seen enjoying flexibility drills while many women participated enthusiastically in the Zumba finale. Pragya Sharma, a housewife who attended the different yoga shows, told TOI: "I used to do yoga before marriage, and I still love it. But now, with two kids, I don't get much time. That's why today's event was such a great opportunity not just for me, but for many of us at Mantri Webcity who don't usually get time for ourselves." Shradha, a college student, said, "This is the first time something like this has happened in our apartment, and I really loved it. I came alone because I'm more interested in yoga than my family is. I enjoyed the yoga session and the games; it was a fun and refreshing way to spend the morning." Adding to the festive spirit were stalls offering fresh juice and light refreshments, along with engaging fitness games hosted by Decathlon, making it a family-friendly event. Interesting outdoor activities by Decathlon and a green corner by Make My Garden for plants engaged citizens.
