Bengaluru: A chance encounter during a work trip to Karwar has left a driver without his livelihood. The man found himself locked in a hotel room, while a woman and her accomplice disappeared with his car and mobile phone, vanishing into the highway of Karnataka.Ananth Kumar, 39, who drives a cab and lives in HMT Layout, filed a complaint with police, describing how his trust was betrayed.

During the last week of April, while waiting for his passengers, who were sightseeing in Karwar, a woman in her mid-20s approached him.After a brief conversation, she learnt he was from Bengaluru and expressed interest in hiring him for an upcoming tour of Bengaluru and Mysuru. They exchanged numbers before he returned to his regular duties. In the days that followed, the woman maintained contact through occasional WhatsApp calls. Then, around 9.30pm of May 6, she phoned Ananth to tell him she would be arriving in Bengaluru the next morning, requesting his services as previously discussed. When Ananth explained he was in Hubballi for work, she agreed to meet him after his return. The next day, at precisely 11am, she called to confirm her arrival in Bengaluru. "She asked Ananth to book accommodation near Majestic. He said he was unfamiliar with hotels in that area, and suggested a place near Tumakuru Road," Shankar Nayak, Ananth's brother-in-law and owner of the vehicle, said. She provided her Aadhaar card for the booking, and Ananth secured a room at PV Residency in Sidedahalli. After collecting her near Eight Mile on Tumakuru Road, he drove her to the hotel.While he waited in the car park, she said she needed to visit a nearby beauty parlour and suggested he could freshen up while waiting. The moment he entered the bathroom, she latched the door from outside.With Ananth trapped inside, she took his mobile phone from the table along with his car keys. She then met her male associate, who had been waiting nearby, and together, they drove away in Ananth's Hyundai Accent.Ananth's cries for help eventually alerted hotel staff, who freed him from the locked room. Investigation revealed the pair drove towards Tumakuru, then to Hiriyur, Chitradurga, after which the cops lost their trail. The hotel's security cameras had no recorded backup. "We suspect there may be more to the complainant's story about why he booked the room. However, we won't jump to conclusions until we apprehend the suspects and uncover more details," another investigating officer said.

Avinash, TTI/Amenities/Kakinada Town, was on duty aboard Train No. 12738 Goutami Express (Rayanapadu to Kakinada Town) when he found an unclaimed bag on Berth No. 35 in coach A3. He immediately alerted the escorting RPF Head Constable and, in the presence of passengers and with video recording for transparency, opened the bag. It contained gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 2 lakh, Rs 37,000 in cash, an Aadhaar card, and other identification documents. Using the contact number on the Aadhaar card, the rightful owner was identified and confirmed ownership. Avinash ensured the safe return of the bag in the presence of RPF staff. 3 thieves arrested, six stolen phones recovered
Three thieves were arrested and six stolen mobile phones were recovered along with a dummy pistol and a scooter used in multiple crimes by the Tilak Marg Police in Delhi, an official said on Friday. The accused have been identified as Arbaz (22) of Sarai Kale Khan, Pankaj Mourya (22) of Jungpura, and Rahul Bagh (26) of Chirag Delhi. 'Six stolen mobile phones, one dummy pistol and a scooter used in the crime were recovered from the accused,' said Delhi Police in a statement. The official said that the arrested accused had been selling stolen mobile phones on e-commerce platforms using fake Aadhaar cards and forged invoices. The breakthrough in the case came after a complaint was filed by a Blinkit delivery boy, who reported the theft of his mobile phone, stating that it was stolen while he was delivering an order on Pandara Road. The accused had tricked him by pretending to make an online payment before fleeing with his mobile phone. An E-FIR (No. 80056549/2025) was registered under Section 303(2) BNS at PS Tilak Marg on June 13, 2025. A special team led by SI Kamlesh Kumar, along with HC Sanjeet Kumar, Ct. Jhabbar Mal and Ct. Ram Tyagi worked under the supervision of SHO Gurmail Singh and ACP Nageen Kaushik to crack the case. CCTV footage from the area showed the culprits fleeing on a scooter. Order details from Blinkit and further analysis of internet logs helped police trace one suspect to Sarai Kale Khan. However, he vacated the premises a month ago. Using technical surveillance and informants, police eventually tracked the trio to a rented house in Chhatarpur. So far, three E-FIRs from Tilak Marg, Kalkaji, and Vasant Kunj South, and one lost report from Sunlight Colony, have been worked out with these arrests.

SUV collides with truck, 2 brothers among 9 killed
PURULIA: Nine people, including two brothers, returning from a wedding died when the SUV carrying them collided head-on with a truck on Dhanbad-Jamshedpur stretch of NH-18 in West Bengal's Purulia early Friday. The group had hired an SUV from Nimdih village in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan to attend a wedding in Purulia's Adabana village. When the guests were heading back home the next morning, their vehicle crashed into an oncoming truck at a curve. The impact of the collision left the SUV mangled, while the truck overturned onto the roadside. Witnesses said the front of the SUV had caved in completely, trapping the passengers within. Balrampur police took the passengers to Banshgar rural health centre, where all nine were declared dead. An Aadhaar card found on one of the deceased led cops to contact their relatives. The bodies were sent for autopsy. Police said probe was underway and witness statements were being recorded. They seized the truck. Its driver and helper, however, are on the run.
