Western firms giving Russia tools to make weapons: Zelensky - War in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Western firms of supplying Russia with "machine tools" used to make weapons, in remarks made public Saturday.
He said companies from Germany, the Czech Republic, South Korea and Japan were among them, as well as one business "supplying a small number of components from the United States."
Ukraine has repeatedly warned its allies have not done enough to sanction Russia or curb its supply chains since it invaded in 2022, saying it has found Western components in drones and missiles sent by Moscow.
"The Russian Federation receives machine tools from some countries -- machine tools that they use to manufacture weapons," Zelensky said.
He said most of the companies supplying tools to Russia were from China, but that dozens of Western firms were also culpable.
"We have passed on all this information to all countries, our partners, everyone... We strongly urge everyone to impose sanctions on these companies," the Ukrainian leader added.
The Czech Republic said it was "completely open" to reviewing Ukraine's evidence but that it could not respond to general allegations.
"I would add that Czechia keeps looking for ways to minimise the bypassing of sanctions," Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said in a comment to AFP via his spokeswoman.

Egypt FM urges ceasefire in talks with Arab counterparts - Foreign Affairs

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty stressed in phone calls with some of his counterparts on Sunday the importance of securing a ceasefire and halting Israel-Iran military escalation. According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty held separate phone calls with Jordanian FM Ayman Safadi, Saudi FM Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, and Bahraini FM Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The phone discussions touched on the rapid regional developments, particularly the Israel-Iran military escalation and the grave threat and serious repercussions it poses to regional peace and security. During the calls, the Egyptian FM affirmed that political and diplomatic solutions are the only way to avoid expanding the conflict in ways that threaten regional peace and security. Abdelatty and Safadi emphasized the importance of de-escalation, restraint, and prioritising dialogue, warning of the danger of the region slipping into more chaos and tensions. The Egyptian, Saudi, and Bahraini ministers also stressed the need to prioritise political and diplomatic solutions as the only way out of the current crisis and to preserve regional security and stability. The Arab top diplomats further reaffirmed the need to respect state sovereignty, international law, and the principles of the United Nations Charter. Earlier Sunday, the US launched airstrikes targeting three major Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and the Isfahan complex, a move which many observers viewed as supporting Israel's ongoing war against Iran, which began on 13 June. US acted against Iran after seeing Israel's obvious inability': Iranian president - Region

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned US strikes on nuclear sites, saying in his first response that the attack revealed Washington was "behind" Israel's military campaign in the Islamic Republic. "This aggression showed that America is the main factor behind the Zionist regime's hostile actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said, according to IRNA news agency. He added that the United States acted after seeing Israel's "obvious inability." Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
