Kick-off in the Group F clash is 9pm (SA time) at the Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, USA.
Sundowns pushed German giants Borussia Dortmund right until the final whistle on Saturday, eventually going down 4-3 in a high-scoring affair. In sweltering conditions over the 30-degree mark, Sundowns were down 4-1 when they mounted a strong comeback.

Ronwen Williams' path to redemption: Overcoming THAT moment to forget against Borussia Dortmund
SHOCKING MOMENT Borussia Dortmund's German midfielder Felix Nmecha (R) celebrates next to Mamelodi Sundowns' South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams after scoring his team's first goal during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Group F football match at the TQL stadium in Cincinnati on June 21, 2025. Picture: Federico Parra/AFP Of course Williams was trying to pick out his defender, but his terrible pass allowed Nmecha to easily intercept the ball to score one of the easiest goals of his career. However, just five minutes later Williams made perhaps the most basic and glaring mistake of his career on the biggest stage. Fielding the ball in his own box closer to the corner flag than his goals, he passed the ball straight to Felix Nmecha who could not believe his luck as he slotted the ball into the open net. Sundowns had begun their Group F match in explosive fashion, taking the lead in just the 11th minute through a Lucas Ribeiro goal. It's no exaggeration to say that Ronwen Williams is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but that counted little when he made a schoolboy error for Mamelodi Sundowns against Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup match last week. Sundowns Dominate but Fall Short Against Dortmund: A Tense Match with Lessons Learned This is not the typical, calm, composed world-beater South Africans are used to watching when they settle in to watch a Sundowns or Bafana Bafana game. Though Sundowns went on to lose the match 4-3, they actually dominated the contest with 60% of the ball and double the number of shots at goal Dortmund managed with 16 in total. Still, after Williams' error Dortmund quickly showed why they are one of the best teams in Europe as they made the most of their few chances as they built a 3-1 lead by half-time. By the time they found their fourth on the hour mark, it left Sundowns with a mountain to climb. Even though Sundowns made it 4-2 two minutes after going three goals down, it meant they needed a miracle in the closing stages to pull off a draw which they nearly pulled off. One has to wonder though, if Sundowns in the early stages had not gifted Dortmund that equaliser how different the contest could have been if the SA outfit were allowed to consolidate their surprise lead. All that is left now is for Williams to produce a flawless performance against Fluminense on Wednesday. @Michael_Sherman IOL Sport * The views expressed are not necessarily the views of IOL or Independent Media. ** JOIN THE CONVERSATION: Send us an email with your comments, thoughts or responses to [email protected]. Man City hit six to reach CWC last 16, Real Madrid win with 10 men
'Now we have to see whether we'll be first or second in the group,' said City coach Pep Guardiola, Manchester City's Erling Haaland (R) celebrates next to teammate Matheus Nunes after scoring his team's third goal. Picture: PATRICIA DE MELO MOREIRA / AFP Manchester City hit Al Ain for six on Sunday to secure a place in the last 16 of the Club World Cup after Real Madrid shrugged off an early red card to beat Mexican side Pachuca 3-1. Juventus proved too strong for Wydad Casablanca while Red Bull Salzburg and Al Hilal drew 0-0 as the second round of group games at the tournament came to a conclusion. City's 'Abu derby' The match between City and Al Ain in Atlanta was dubbed the 'Abu derby', with the English club's owner and United Arab Emirates vice-president Sheikh Mansour facing off against his elder sibling, Sheikh Mohamed, president of the Emirati team and also the country. Ilkay Gundogan put City ahead early on before 19-year-old Claudio Echeverri netted his first goal for the club with a free-kick and Erland Haaland slotted in the third with a penalty in first-half stoppage time. In the second half, Gundogan struck again before two substitutes joined in, with Oscar Bobb rolling in the fifth and Rayan Cherki grabbing his first City goal for 6-0. The result, in a game watched by a crowd of over 40,000, means both City and Juventus are through to the knockout phase after each winning their first two matches in Group G. They will now face each other in Orlando on Thursday to decide who tops the section. 'Now we have to see whether we'll be first or second in the group,' said City coach Pep Guardiola, who changed his entire starting line-up following the 2-0 opening win against Wydad. 'We played a little bit better than the first game, especially in the second half.' Juventus triumphed 4-1 against Moroccan giants Wydad in Philadelphia, as Kenan Yildiz played a starring role. Yildiz stars for Juventus The Turkish international forward scored twice after forcing the early own goal which put Juve ahead in front of almost 32,000 at Lincoln Financial Field. His shot found the net with the aid of a slight but crucial deflection off Abdelmounaim Boutouil, and Yildiz then smashed in the second on 16 minutes with a brilliant half-volley. South African winger Thembinkosi Lorch pulled one back for Wydad, but the impressive Yildiz made it 3-1 midway through the second half and Dusan Vlahovic converted a penalty in injury time to seal the win for Igor Tudor's side. 'He has great potential,' Tudor told broadcaster DAZN when asked about Yildiz. 'A wonderful player, so there is a big future in front of him.' In Charlotte, Real Madrid overcame the early sending-off of Raul Asencio to beat Pachuca and get their first win under new coach Xabi Alonso. Defender Asencio was dismissed after just seven minutes for pulling down Salomon Rondon with the Venezuelan clear on goal. That left the Liga MX team sensing the chance for an upset in front of 70,248 fans at the home of the NFL's Carolina Panthers. Rudiger complains of racist insult However, Real took the lead on 35 minutes when Jude Bellingham buried a left-foot shot into the bottom corner, and they scored again before the interval through Arda Guler. Fede Valverde got their third in the second half, with a deflected Elias Montiel effort pulling one back for Pachuca. Alonso praised the way his team handled the early sending-off. 'It became really intense for us, but we defended with a lot of sacrifice and solidarity, which is what it takes,' he said. Alonso also said that Real defender Antonio Rudiger had complained of a racist incident at the end of the game when the German was visibly angered following an exchange of words with Pachuca's Gustavo Cabral. 'I think the FIFA protocol has been activated to investigate, but if it has happened, all measures should be taken and we support Antonio because it's something unacceptable,' said the coach. Cabral, the 39-year-old Argentinian centre-back, denied the accusations, saying his words had been misinterpreted. Real are level at the top of Group H on four points with Salzburg, who drew 0-0 with Al Hilal in Washington, DC. Madrid and Salzburg meet each other next in Philadelphia, while Al Hilal have two points and can still qualify with a win when they play Pachuca, who are now out.

Thembinkosi Lorch scores against Juventus at Club World Cup
Kenan Yildiz scored two goals and had a hand in another as Juventus beat Wydad Casablanca 4-1 at the Club World Cup on Sunday to close in on a place in the last 16. The Turkish international forward was unlucky not to be credited with Juventus' early opener which went down as an own goal by Abdelmounaim Boutouil. When South Africans connect, we don't just network; we build a community. The Lekker Network is a professional network where every conversation starts with, 'How can I help you?' Come join us & be a part of a community of extraordinary Saffas. However, there was no doubt that Yildiz was the scorer of the second with a tremendous strike from outside the box. Thembinkosi Lorch pulled one back for Wydad before the break, but Yildiz got his second of the afternoon on 69 minutes before a late Dusan Vlahovic penalty sealed the victory for the Italian side. Having already defeated Emirati side Al Ain 5-0 in their opening match, Juventus have scored nine goals and have the maximum six points after two outings in Group G. Their qualification for the knockout phase was assured when group rivals Manchester City thrashed Al Ain 6-0 in the group's late match. That result ensured both Juventus and Manchester City progressed to the Round of 16, while Al Ain and Wydad were eliminated . 'I'm happy. It was not easy. It was hot, but it was a good win. At the end our quality came out,' Tudor told broadcaster DAZN, before hailing the performance of Yildiz. 'He has great potential. He has a lot of skills but more important than skills is his brain, that is the key. A wonderful player, so there is a big future in front of him.' Meanwhile Moroccan giants Wydad are eliminated with this defeat following a 2-0 loss at the hands of Manchester City in their first outing. Yildiz, the 20-year-old German-born winger, was among the scorers against Al Ain and he was the star of the show here in front of 31 975 fans at Lincoln Financial Field. Juve, who finished fourth in Serie A in the campaign just finished, went with an unchanged starting line-up meaning the likes of Vlahovic and Manuel Locatelli began the game on the bench. Prolific against Al Ain, they wasted no time in putting the team that finished third in the Moroccan league to the sword. The opening goal came on six minutes as Khephren Thuram teed up Yildiz and his shot beat goalkeeper El Mehdi Benabid with the aid of a slight deflection off Boutouil. It was 2-0 on 16 minutes via a superb effort, as Andrea Cambiaso went on a piercing run in from the left before laying the ball off for Yildiz to smash in a shot on the half-volley into the top corner. Wydad quickly pulled one back as veteran Nordin Amrabat's fine pass in behind the defence released South African winger Lorch to control and clip a shot past the goalkeeper. Yet Juventus were well on top and Cambiaso hit the post just prior to the hour mark before Randal Kolo Muani somehow failed to turn in Lloyd Kelly's ball across the face of goal. Their third goal did arrive just after the midway point in the second half when France forward Kolo Muani collected possession on the left and then slipped in Yildiz who finished into the corner. It was his third goal at the tournament so far, and his 12th in all competitions since the season began. Yildiz had been withdrawn before the fourth goal arrived in stoppage time, substitute Vlahovic stroking in a spot-kick awarded after he had been hauled down by Guilherme Ferreira.
