After Sarvam.ai, Soket AI, Gnani.ai, Gan.ai to now build foundation AI models, says IndiaAI Mission

Soket AI will develop an open source 120 billion parameter foundation model optimised for the country's linguistic diversity targetting sectors such as defence, healthcare and education. Gnani.ai will build a 14 billion parameter voice AI foundation model delivering multilingual, real-time speech processing with advanced reasoning capabilities.
Gan.ai will create a 70 billion parameter multilingual foundation model targeting superhuman text-to-speech (TTS) model capabilities.
The IndiaAI Mission also said that 34,333 GPUs are now available on the IndiaAI Compute portal. These include GPUs from Nvidia, AMD, AWS, and Intel. The offering comprises 15,100 H100 Nvidia GPUs, 8,192 Nvidia B200 GPUs, 4,812 Nvidia H200 GPUs, and 1,973 Nvidia L40S GPUs. The other GPU variants each comprise fewer than 1,000 or 500 in number.
All
seven technically qualified bidders
in the second round of the GPU tender are empanelled, it said.

367 datasets have been uploaded on AI Kosh, Vaishnaw revealed. AI Kosh is the government's platform that provides a repository of datasets, models and use cases to enable AI innovation. It also features AI sandbox capabilities.
IndiaAI Mission on May 16 had said that it has received 506 foundation AI proposals across the three phases.
Given the overwhelming response and continued interest, the mission has decided to extend the deadline for submissions under phase 3 of the call for proposals. The earlier deadline was April 30.
'Further dates for submission of proposals, the acceptance of new applications post April 30, will be announced subsequently, as per requirements, once the examination of proposals already submitted has been completed," IndiaAI said on its website.
As part of the first phase of approvals, Sarvam.ai was selected to initiate the development of an indigenous foundational model.
Sarvam's multimodal, multi-scale model will have 70 billion parameters.
Sarvam cofounder Vivek Raghavan had said on April 26 that the model will be completed in six months.
Capable of reasoning, designed for voice, and fluent in Indian languages, Sarvam's model will be ready for secure, population-scale deployment, the startup had said in a statement.
According to cofounder Pratyush Kumar, Sarvam is developing three model variants -- Sarvam-Large for advanced reasoning and generation, Sarvam-Small for real-time interactive applications, and Sarvam-Edge for compact on-device tasks.
Sarvam will get access to 4,096 Nvidia H100 graphics processing units (GPUs) for six months from the IndiaAI Mission's common compute cluster to train its model, people in the know had said.
'We are collaborating with AI4Bharat at IIT-Madras, a leader in Indian language AI research, to build these models,' Kumar had said.

Russian companies see India as base for setting up IT teams: Ashwini Vaishnaw

St Petersburg [Russia], June 22 (ANI): Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said many Russian companies are considering India as a base for creating their IT teams and that both countries can collaborate and lean in on each others' areas of expertise, TASS reported. 'A lot of Russian companies are now looking at India as a base for setting up IT teams. For example, Sberbank. They are setting up a base in Bengaluru. So a lot of opportunities are there for collaborating,' the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology told TASS in an interview on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The minister added that there are many areas for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in the IT sector, the Russian state media reported. 'There are multiple areas for collaboration in IT. Of course, cybersecurity is one area where Russia has a lot of strengths. We can learn from each other. India has strengths in AI, IT systems management, and IT system programming. So both countries can really collaborate and learn from each other and to achieve a win-win solution for both,' Vaishnaw emphasised. The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) was held on June 18-21 and the theme for the event this year was 'Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World.' Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge questions Centre's ‘U-turn' on clearance for US visit

Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday questioned the Ministry of External Affairs for initially rejecting his clearance for an official visit to the United States 'without an explanation' and later reversing its decision. Kharge, who holds the information technology portfolio in the state's Congress government, asked why the permission was denied in the first place and whether it was revoked after the matter became public. The minister had sought permission to visit the US from June 14 to June 27 to seek investments for the state. On Thursday, he alleged that he had been denied permission for the visit without a reason, adding that he would write to the ministry for an explanation. 'So in a U-turn, the Ministry of External Affairs has now decided to revoke its earlier decision and grant me a clearance for an official visit to the United States,' the Congress leader said on Saturday. Kharge said he had sought permission on May 15 to represent the Karnataka government at two global fora and over 25 meetings with companies, universities and institutions. The minister said that his application to the ministry seeking permission for himself and a delegation of officers to visit the US was rejected on June 4. Two days later, his department submitted an application for the delegation without listing his name, which was cleared on June 11, he added. On June 12, Kharge said that he sent the name of Sharath Bachegowda, Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited chairperson, to the ministry to be granted permission for the visit, which was cleared by June 14. 'My application was denied without any official explanation,' he said. 'On 19 June, I addressed a press conference, laying out the full chronology, questioning the basis of the denial and raising concerns about possible political interference.' Noting that the matter was widely reported in the media, Kharge said that by the evening of June 19, the Ministry of External Affairs revoked its earlier denial and issued a No Objection clearance.
