Jacob deGrom excels as Rangers blank Nationals
June 7 - Jacob deGrom pitched seven strong innings, Marcus Semien had two hits and drove in three runs and the Texas Rangers beat the Washington Nationals 5-0 on Saturday.
The 36-year-old deGrom (6-2) allowed two hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out eight. He has allowed two runs or less in ten consecutive starts and his ERA for the season is 2.12.
Semien singled home a run in the first and added a two-run double in the eighth. Sam Haggerty had three hits and scored twice for Texas, which had lost four straight.
Washington starter Mitchell Parker (4-6) nearly matched deGrom. The lefthander gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings. He struck out five without a walk.
After being shut out 2-0 on Friday night, the Rangers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on Saturday. Haggerty led off the game with a single and with one out, Josh Jung singled. Semien singled to center and when the ball got by centerfielder Robert Hassell III both runners scored and Semien went all the way to third.
Nathaniel Lowe singled off deGrom with one out in the second. With two outs, Alex Call was hit by a pitch but deGrom struck out Keibert Ruiz.
Semien walked leading off the seventh against Cole Henry and went to second on a balk. After Jake Burger walked, Henry retired the next two batters before walking Kyle Higashioka to load the bases. Andrew Chafin came on and retired Josh Smith to end the inning.
In the eighth, Haggerty and Wyatt Langford opened with singles against Eduardo Salazar. With one out, Semien doubled to left center, scoring both runners. Semien scored to make it 5-0 when Adolis Garcia blooped a two-out single to center.
The Nationals got the first two batters on in the bottom half against Luke Jackson, but Ruiz grounded into a double play and Jose Tena grounded out.

Miami threatened in the bottom of the fifth as Dane Myers' one-out single and consecutive two-out walks by Xavier Edwards and Sanchez loaded the bases, but Holmes struck out Agustin Ramirez to end the inning. After issuing a two-out walk to Liam Hicks in the sixth, Holmes was relieved by Enyel De Los Santos, who retired Connor Norby on a groundout. The Braves tacked on a run in the eighth as singles by Baldwin and Eli White were followed by Michael Harris II's RBI groundout against reliever Josh Simpson, who was making his major league debut. Bellingham's goal a surreal experience for new Dortmund signing
CINCINNATI, OH, June 21 (Reuters) - Jobe Bellingham said his first goal for Borussia Dortmund was a surreal experience as the new signing from Sunderland made an immediate impact at the Club World Cup on Saturday. Bellingham scored the third goal in Dortmund's 4-3 win over South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns at the TQL Stadium and was named man-of-the-match at the end of the Group F encounter. 'It's a little bit surreal really when the ball hits in the net, it's just crazy,' the 19-year-old said. 'Everything happened so slowly but yeah I'm really pleased.' It was a second run out, but first start, for Bellingham since his move from Sunderland to the Bundesliga giants, where he will look to follow in his elder brother Jude's footsteps. Jobe's goal was smartly taken although the Sundowns goalkeeper palmed the ball straight at him. But Bellingham avoided an attempted block by a defender, and sent the keeper the wrong way, by cleverly holding his shot for a split second. Bellingham said it had been a hard assignment in the midday sun in Ohio, where the temperature was 32 degrees Celsius (90°F). 'I think the conditions make it so difficult, especially for us being a European team. They (Sundowns) played a fantastic game but I'm sure they're used to this kind of weather, but we definitely aren't. 'But it's something we are going to have to adapt to as the tournament goes on.' Bellingham said he was happy to be playing so soon after signing a five-year deal for what reports said was a 33 million euros ($37.70 million) deal. 'The lads have really helped me settle in and it's been a different experience because rather than signing and then having a summer off, I've got an opportunity to meet everyone and get to grips with how we play and how the coach wants us to play as a team.' Coach Niko Kovac said he was delighted with the form of Bellingham. 'He is among those who are the future of this club,' the Dortmund boss said.

Pirates continue to slide with loss to Rangers
June 21 - The Texas Rangers managed just four hits on Saturday, but they made the most of them as they earned a 3-2 road win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kumar Rocker (3-4) gave up all five Pirates hits as he teamed with three relivers to give Pittsburgh its sixth loss in its last seven games. The two-time first-round draft pick threw 5 1/3 innings giving up two runs, five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Pirates starter Mitch Keller saw his hard luck season continue. He allowed just a hit, a walk and an unearned run through his first five innings before the Rangers scored twice on him in the sixth. Keller (1-10), whose only win this season came in his first start on March 28, went 5-2/3 innings allowing two earned runs. The right-hander struck out five, gave up three hits and walked two. Both walks scored. Keller walked Ezequiel Duran to start the third. One out later, Kyle Higashioka lined a base hit to left field that Adam Frazier allowed to get past him and roll to the wall. The error allowed Duran to score and Higashioka to advance to second. Pittsburgh leveled the score in the fifth with small ball. Henry Davis and Ke'Bryan Hayes led off with consecutive singles, moving to second and third on Isiah Kiner-Falefa's sacrifice bunt. Oneil Cruz then scored Davis on a sacrifice fly to center.
