Mongolia's industrial output drops 0.6 pct in first 5 months
ULAN BATOR, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's industrial output reached 15.5 trillion Mongolian tugriks (4.33 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months of 2025, a 0.6 percent decrease year-on-year, local media reported on Sunday, citing data from the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The fall was attributed mainly to a drop in the output of main mining and extractive products, the NSO said in a statement.
During the period, coal production decreased 23.7 percent, while crude oil production fell 14.9 percent.
Currently, the mining sector remains one of main pillars of the Mongolian economy, as the country is rich in natural resources such as gold, silver, copper and coal.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Mongolia exported 25 million tons of coal in the first four months of 2025.
