Australia's Woodside Energy signs 15-year LNG supply deal with Malaysia's Petronas
Australia's Woodside Energy has entered an agreement with a unit of Malaysian state-owned oil and gas firm Petronas to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Malaysia starting 2028, the two companies said on Wednesday.
Under the deal, Woodside Energy, Australia's largest independent oil and gas producer, will supply 1 million tonnes per annum of LNG to Malaysia for a period of 15 years.
The LNG will be sourced from Woodside's global portfolio, including the recently approved Louisiana LNG project in the United States.
The agreement is expected to support Petronas' efforts to ensure secure and flexible LNG supply to meet growing demand in Peninsular Malaysia and the broader Asia-Pacific region, the companies said.
On Tuesday, Petronas Chief Executive Tengku Muhammad Taufik said the company is planning to start importing LNG in four to five years.

Russia's Rosatom to explore construction of high-capacity nuclear plant in Uzbekistan
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia :Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom signed an agreement on Friday with Uzbekistan's atomic energy agency to study the feasibility of building a large-capacity nuclear power plant in the Central Asian country. Rosatom, which signed the agreement with the Uzbek government at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, already has plans to construct smaller nuclear units in Uzbekistan. The Russian energy company was also tapped over the weekend by the government of Kazakhstan to lead a consortium to build the first nuclear power plant there. There are currently no nuclear power plants in any of the five ex-Soviet Central Asian republics, although Uzbekistan and its neighbour Kazakhstan, both uranium producers, have long said their growing economies need them. The Uzbekistan plant will employ two Russian-designed VVER-1000 reactors, with the possibility to scale up to four. Last May, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev agreed on a deal for Rosatom to construct smaller-capacity plants with a capacity of 55 megawatts each in Uzbekistan. On Friday, Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev said Rosatom was discussing building two low-power and two high-power nuclear units in Uzbekistan. "The small modular nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is the first export product of modern small power plants on the planet," Likhachev told reporters in St. Petersburg. He said the plants would help Uzbekistan respond to its growing electricity needs. He also told journalists the firm had approved a preliminary roadmap with Kazakhstan for two units there using Russian-made VVER-1200 reactors.

Meta partners with sports eyewear brand Oakley to launch AI-powered glasses
Meta said on Friday it has teamed up with Oakley to release AI-powered smart glasses, expanding its push into wearable tech after the success of Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The social media company is expanding its partnership with Oakley and Ray-Ban-parent EssilorLuxottica amid growing consumer interest in AI-powered wearable devices. Meta has sold millions of Ray-Ban Meta glasses since their launch and said its "Oakley Meta HSTN" will feature a hands-free high-resolution camera, open-ear speakers, water resistance and Meta AI capabilities. The limited-edition product will be available for preorder starting July 11 at $499, with additional products starting at $399 launching later this summer. Meta said the product line would roll out in North America, Australia and several European countries, with plans to expand to Mexico, India and the United Arab Emirates by the year-end. The Oakley Meta HSTN will debut this month at several major sporting events including Fanatics Fest and UFC International Fight Week. Smaller rival Snap said earlier this month it would launch its smart glasses, called Specs, for consumers next year. Companies such as Google are also exploring similar investments.

Russia signs investment deal with Myanmar, sees offshore oil and gas prospects
ST PETERSBURG :Russia signed an investment agreement with Myanmar on Friday that it said could open up new opportunities for Russian energy companies in the south Asian country. "We especially note the readiness of the Myanmar side to attract Russian companies to the development of offshore oil and gas fields," Economy Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said after signing the agreement in St Petersburg with Kan Zaw, Myanmar's minister of investment and foreign economic relations. Russia said the deal would help accelerate projects including in Myanmar's Dawei special economic zone, where a 660 MW coal-fired thermal power plant is being developed. Russia has been building closer ties with Myanmar's military junta, which seized power in 2021 by toppling the elected government of Nobel peace prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. The country is struggling with internal conflict, an economy in tatters, widespread hunger and a third of the nation's 55 million people in need of aid, according to the United Nations. Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing met Russian President Vladimir Putin in March and signed an agreement on construction of a small-scale nuclear plant in Myanmar. A month earlier, the two countries signed a memorandum on construction of a port and oil refinery in the Dawei economic zone. Friday's agreement will also facilitate cooperation in areas including transport infrastructure, metallurgy, agriculture and telecommunications, the Russian government said.
