China trying to dilute identity of Buddhists in Himalayan region: RSS leader Indresh Kumar

Shimla, Jun 15 (PTI) Senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar on Sunday alleged that China was trying to dilute the identity of Buddhists in Himalayan region, including Tibet, and undermine their culture.
He said China recently announced that it would name the successor of the Dalai Lama and added that it must be vociferously opposed to send a clear message that Tibetans and Buddhists elsewhere would not tolerate any interference in their religious and spiritual matters.
Kumar said that he visited Tibetan monasteries and localities and interacted with people. He said that he held discussions with them regarding developmental, religious and cultural issues and stressed the need to be aware of challenges faced by them.
Calling upon Buddhists and Sanatani Hindus to stay together and thwart attempts to divide them, he said that Christian missionaries are also engineering conversions through service and education.
Tibetans and Hindus must be made aware that conversion means change of identity, he said.
The government of India has started several schemes for overall development of border areas and the state government should implement the centrally sponsored schemes for faster development of these areas, he added. PTI BPL KVK KVK

S P Velumani COIMBATORE: Former AIADMK minister S P Velumani said he participated in the centenary celebration of Perur Aatheenam Shanthalinga Ramaswamy Adikalar here on Monday and did not attend the RSS function as he had not been invited to that. He added that false information was being spread that he participated in the RSS function held in the same venue. Addressing reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on Monday evening, Velumani said Perur Aatheenam had brought pride to the Kongu region. Since it was held in my assembly constituency, he was given a Lord Murugan idol and spear as gifts.' He said, 'The AIADMK would form alliances with many parties for election. But the party would not compromise on its policy of self-respect for that.' He said Siruvani dam water level had been raised to 50 feet during the AIADMK regime. However, the water level was reduced after a landslide in Kerala and the water level at the dam is not being kept above 40 feet now. 'The water level should be raised to 50 feet immediately, and the frequent water release should be stopped. Otherwise, the AIADMK will stage a protest within 10 days,' said Velumani.

Doval begins China visit for SCO meet, Rajnath to arrive this week
India and China are set for their most intense week of engagement since the military stand-off at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), and Operation Sindoor last month, as National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh travel to China for meetings of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), officials confirmed. Their visits will coincide with the arrival of the first batch of pilgrims from India to Tibet, who will reach Mount Kailash and the Mansarovar Lake on Tuesday, for the first time in six years. The resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is expected to be followed up by the resumption of direct flights between the two countries in the next few months, said official sources, adding that airlines are now 'preparing' for flights as they await a formal notification from the Civil Aviation Ministry.
