27 cows slaughtered to benefit over 1,000 Gua Musang asnaf
GUA MUSANG: A total of 8.1 tonnes of sacrificial meat was distributed to 1,200 asnaf (tithe recipients) and low-income families in the Gua Musang area in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, said Galas state assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim.
He said that 27 cows, donated by various parties, were slaughtered in stages, starting at 7 am.
'Alhamdulillah, the amount of sacrificial meat distributed is significantly higher this year compared to last year, which involved only five cows.
'This allows more recipients to benefit, especially those in the Galas state constituency,' he told reporters today at the distribution ceremony in Bandar Baru.
According to Mohd Syahbuddin, the programme was held in collaboration with Yayasan Kebajikan Asnaf Malaysia, the Gua Musang neighbourhood watch, and the Galas State Assemblyman Service Centre.

Gerik bus crash survivor haunted by trauma
BESUT: The emotional toll from the Gerik bus crash weighs heavily on Nur Ain Najwa Mohd Ilias, 23, who survived the incident that killed 15 of her university mates on June 9. "I don't have the strength to look at news about the incident on social media," said the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student. She suffered a fractured left shoulder in the crash and is traumatised by the sight and sound of buses. The Arabic with Education student said she now only uses WhatsApp to communicate with family, friends and her lecturers at UPSI. "Whenever I hear the sound of a bus, I get anxious and try to calm myself by reciting istighfar," she said at her home in Kampung Gong Kemuntong. Nur Ain Najwa said she was semi-conscious at the time of the incident as she had fallen asleep after taking medication for a fever. "I regained consciousness only after the bus had overturned. "It was eerily silent, and my left shoulder was in excruciating pain. In my heart I said, 'Ya Allah, if You want to take my life, I am ready,' before losing consciousness again. "The next time I woke up, I was outside the bus, waiting for help." She said she had used part of her headscarf to support her injured arm before a passer-by gave her a piece of cloth. Her mother, Nani Hamid, 49, said Ain hadn't planned to take the bus that night, but decided to return to campus early and bought a ticket from another student. She added that Ain had initially planned to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha at her sister's home in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, but in the end both siblings decided to return to their family home in Kampung Gong Kemuntong.

Gua Musang receives over RM33 million in welfare aid since 2023
GUA MUSANG: The federal government has allocated over RM33 million in aid through the Social Welfare Department (JKM) in Gua Musang since 2023. Galas assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the allocation has benefited 2,390 eligible recipients through five welfare schemes, including assistance for persons with disabilities, children, senior citizens, and carers of bedridden disabled and chronically ill. He said that so far this year, more than RM10.7 million has been disbursed to eligible recipients across the Gua Musang parliamentary constituency, while over RM11.4 million and RM11.8 million were channelled in 2023 and 2024 respectively. He said the assistance reflected the federal government's concern for easing the burden of the people, particularly the asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) and persons with disabilities. 'I hope the recipients make the best use of the aid they have received,' he told reporters in Bandar Lama here today.
