One of Canada's most wanted, convicted of gun trafficking, arrested in the U.S.
TORONTO – Toronto police say a man convicted of firearms trafficking was arrested in the United States after almost four years on the run.
They say 43-year-old Kamar Cunningham was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Atlanta region and is being held pending extradition.
Police say Cunningham was arrested in June 2018 as part of an investigation into a criminal organization that trafficked firearms across the United States border.
They say he was convicted of several firearms trafficking charges in November 2020, but was released on bail and did not appear for his court date while awaiting sentencing.
The Bolo program, which encourages people to be on the lookout for Canada's most wanted, says Cunningham was re-arrested and released on bail several times in the period between the start of his trial and as he awaited sentencing.

Person of interest located as double homicide investigation continues
RCMP have located a person of interest after a deadly shooting in Manitoba on Friday that left two people dead in the rural municipality of Victoria Beach, the Free Press has learned. RCMP would not confirm they found the person on Sunday, nor would they say if the person is a suspect in the case, only saying the investigation is ongoing. The man located by police is said to be Oliver Peemoeller, who was living at the property on Hampton Road near Sandy Bay, sources said. Police discovered the bodies of a 41-year-old local woman, identified by residents and on social media as Melissa Julie Wilson, and a 29-year-old Winnipeg man, near one of the buildings on the property after they received a report about possible gunshots on Hampton Road at about 2 a.m. The site is about 100 kilometres north of Winnipeg. RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Paul Manaigre said Friday police believe the shootings were targeted, and that there was no further threat to the public. Police said they were searching for a 'person of interest' in a white pickup truck that was seen driving southbound on Highway 59, but gave no other details. Neighbours who spoke to the Free Press said Peemoeller drove a white pickup truck, but were unconvinced he had anything to do with the shootings. 'It's so quiet and peaceful around here,' said the neighbour, who has lived in a lakefront property for 20 years. 'We do think there was a lot of drug activity there, but we don't know for sure. We know the owner. I don't think they would have done it.' Another neighbour, who has lived in the area for years, said he knew one of the people who lived at the home. 'If there was trouble coming from this neighbourhood, you knew where to look,' they said. 'There's a long history.' B.C. Public Safety Minister says program funding targets repeat violent offenders
SURREY – British Columbia's public safety minister says the provincial government is adding another $6 million to a policing initiative targeting repeat violent offenders. Gary Begg says the money for the Special Investigation and Targeted Enforcement program will build on the initiative's past successes in leading to more than 2,600 criminal charges since its launch in 2023. Begg says the funding has supported nearly 150 investigations in dozens of communities, leading to 'substantial' seizures of weapons, drugs and stolen goods. The minister, who's a former RCMP officer, says policing challenges have been made more complex as 'mental health struggles, the toxic opioid crisis and homelessness have intensified in recent years.' Begg says the program was launched originally as a three-year pilot project aimed at boosting policing capacity, and police departments now say it's 'as a critical tool in combating repeat violence.' He says the funding for the program has benefited agencies, including the Metro Vancouver Transit Police, and is also credited by Vancouver police for a substantial drop in violent crime along the city's Hastings Street. Canada coach Jesse Marsch downplays latest CONCACAF disciplinary proceeding
HOUSTON – Canada coach Jesse Marsch is downplaying a CONCACAF investigation into his actions during the Canadian men's opening game at the Gold Cup. Marsch told a news conference in Houston, in advance of Canada's game against Curaçao on Saturday, that the issue was of more interest to the media than the team.
