Govt plans ₹10cr road on Bicholim-Dodamarg route

Panaji: After the construction of the Bicholim and Assonora bypasses, PWD is now planning the construction of a new road on the Sanquelim-Bicholim-Dodamarg route to ease traffic. Sources said the road will be funded by the state, cost Rs 10 crore, and run parallel to the Bicholim bypass. The Bicholim-Dodamarg-Sanquelim route is frequently used by interstate trucks and buses. Locals from Bicholim and Dodamarg travel to work and shop at the markets. New roads are being planned as the existing roads have reached saturation. Both the Assonora and Bicholim bypass roads were scheduled in 2013-14. The work on the Bicholim bypass began in late 2021 and opened last year. The construction of the Assonora bypass in Bicholim began last year, costing Rs 160 crore. The 2.9km long four-lane bypass along state highway 1 will be completed in 2026, improving connectivity between the Bardez and Bicholim districts. Though the 4.6 km Bicholim bypass from Bordem to Sarvan was opened, the work on its service roads is ongoing. The four-lane Rs 90 crore Bicholim bypass will offer an alternative route for all heavy vehicles travelling on the interstate route, which passes through Bicholim town.
