As part of its ongoing efforts to empower emerging Emirati talent and strengthen their presence in the media sector, the Dubai Media Council (DMC) organised a visit for media students from the Higher Colleges of Technology to the regional headquarters of Edelman, one of the world's leading communications firms.
Organised as part of the 'Emirati Media Talent Pledge' initiative, launched by DMC, the visit aimed to offer students real-world exposure, highlight career paths in media, and foster direct engagement with industry professionals.
DMC affirmed that collaboration with the private sector and leading media institutions represents a key pillar in advancing the media sector in Dubai and the UAE. The Council highlighted its strong ties with prominent media entities and their key role in supporting efforts to prepare and upskill young talent by facilitating knowledge exchange and providing the professional expertise needed to enhance their readiness for careers in the media industry.
Saif Al Suwaidi, Project Manager at Dubai Media Council, said the visit forms part of efforts to realise the objectives of the 'Emirati Media Talent Pledge' initiative, launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council.
'Dubai's media development strategy places youth at its core. The Dubai Media Council is working closely with pledge partners to expand opportunities for young Emiratis and support their journey towards excellence. Edelman's support for the initiative reflects the private sector's growing awareness of the vital role youth play in shaping the future of media. The Council remains committed to empowering young talent, strengthening their presence in the industry, and equipping them with the professional skills needed to thrive in an evolving media landscape,' Al Suwaidi said.
Al Suwaidi thanked Edelman for its role as a key partner of the 'Emirati Media Talent Pledge' and for hosting the visit in collaboration with DMC. He commended the firm's efforts in offering students meaningful exposure to current practices in communications and marketing, particularly in a fast-evolving digital landscape that is reshaping how audiences are engaged worldwide.
Interactive sessions
The visit featured a series of interactive sessions aimed at enriching the students' understanding of how global communications firms operate. A dedicated Q&A session gave students the opportunity to engage directly with senior professionals and rising talent at Edelman. The discussion covered a range of topics, from skills required to succeed in the industry to the importance of adaptability, creativity and cultural awareness in modern communications.
Omar Qirem, Chief Executive Officer of Edelman Middle East, welcomed the students with an introduction to the company's vision, key areas of work, and guiding values. He highlighted Edelman's commitment to identifying and supporting young talent, and to fostering professional environments that enable them to thrive in today's dynamic media landscape.
The visit also included a guided orientation through Edelman's various departments, offering participants a closer look at how teams collaborate on client campaigns, develop content strategies, monitor trends, and manage digital platforms.
In addition to providing inspiration and guidance, the visit also served to familiarise students with upcoming internship opportunities that Edelman will offer as part of its collaboration with DMC.
The 'Emirati Media Talent Pledge' is a strategic initiative that engages leading media organisations in the process of mentoring, training, and integrating Emirati talent into the media workforce.

LONDON: Oil is likely to rise by $3-5 per barrel when trading resumes on Sunday evening after the U.S. attacked Iran at the weekend, market analysts said, with gains expected to accelerate only if Iran retaliates hard and causes a major oil supply disruption. U.S. President Donald Trump said he had "obliterated" Iran's main nuclear sites in strikes overnight, joining an Israeli assault in an escalation of conflict in the Middle East as Tehran vowed to defend itself. Iran is OPEC's third-largest crude producer. "An oil price jump is expected," said Jorge Leon, head of geopolitical analysis at Rystad and a former OPEC official. "Even in the absence of immediate retaliation, markets are likely to price in a higher geopolitical risk premium." Global oil benchmark Brent crude could gain $3 to $5 per barrel when markets open, SEB analyst Ole Hvalbye said in a note. Brent settled at $77.01 a barrel on Friday and U.S. West Texas Intermediate at $73.84. Ole Hansen, analyst at Saxo Bank, said crude could open $4 to $5 dollars higher, with potential for some long positioning being unwound. Crude had settled down on Friday after the U.S. imposed fresh Iran-related sanctions, including on two entities based in Hong Kong, and counter-terrorism-related sanctions, according to a notice on the U.S. Treasury Department website. Brent has risen 11% while WTI has gained around 10% since the conflict began on June 13 with Israel targeting Iran's nuclear sites and Iranian missiles hitting buildings in Tel Aviv. Currently stable supply conditions and the availability of spare production capacity among other OPEC members have limited oil's gains. Risk premiums have typically faded when no supply disruptions occurred, said Giovanni Staunovo, analyst at UBS. "The direction of oil prices from here will depend on whether there are supply disruptions - which would likely result in higher prices - or if there is a de-escalation in the conflict, resulting in a fading risk premium," he said. A senior Iranian lawmaker said on June 19 that the country could shut the Strait of Hormuz as a way of hitting back against its enemies, though a second member of parliament said this would only happen if Tehran's vital interests were endangered. About a fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes through the strait. SEB said any closure of the strait or spillover into other regional producers would "significantly lift" oil prices, but they saw this scenario as a tail risk rather than a base case given China's reliance on Gulf crude. Ajay Parmar, oil and energy transition analytics director at consultancy ICIS, said it was unlikely Iran would be able to enforce a blockage of the strait for too long. "Most of Iran's oil exports to China pass through this strait and Trump is unlikely to tolerate the inevitable subsequent oil price spike for too long - the diplomatic pressure from the world's two largest economies would also be significant," he said. US airlines face heightened risks as global carriers bypass Middle East after attacks on Iran

An organisation that monitors flight risks warned on Sunday that U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear sites could heighten the threat to American operators in the region as some airlines cancelled flights to and from Dubai and Doha. Airlines continued to avoid large parts of the Middle East due to ongoing missile exchanges between Israel and Iran, the latest upheaval to travel in the region. Singapore Airlines said it cancelled scheduled flights from Singapore to Dubai following a security assessment and British Airways cancelled flights to and from Dubai and Doha. But following a barrage of early morning Iranian missiles, Israel has reopened its airspace for six hours on Sunday to bring back those stranded abroad since the conflict with Iran began on June 13. Safe Airspace, a membership-based website run by OPSGROUP, said the U.S. attacks on Iran may increase risks to U.S. operators in the region. "While there have been no specific threats made against civil aviation, Iran has previously warned it would retaliate by attacking US military interests in the Middle East - either directly or via proxies such as Hezbollah," Safe Airspace said. Meanwhile, flight tracking website FlightRadar24, said airlines maintained flight diversions around the region. Its website showed airlines were not flying in the airspace over Iran, Iraq, Syria and Israel. They have chosen other routings such as north via the Caspian Sea or south via Egypt and Saudi Arabia, even if these result in higher fuel and crew costs and longer flight times. Missile and drone barrages in an expanding number of conflict zones globally represent a high risk to airline traffic. In the nine days since Israel launched its offensive against Iran, carriers have suspended flights to destinations in the affected countries, though there have been some evacuation flights from neighbouring nations and some bringing stranded Israelis home. With Russian and Ukrainian airspace also closed due to war, the Middle East region has become an even more important route for international flights between Europe and Asia. In addition to rerouting flights, airlines are also concerned about a potential spike in oil prices following the U.S. attacks, which will increase the cost of jet fuel. In the days before the U.S. strikes, American Airlines suspended flights to Qatar and United Airlines did the same with flights to Dubai. Safe Airspace said it was possible airspace risks could now extend to countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. RESCUE AND EVACUATION FLIGHTS The BA and Singapore Airline cancellations were only for Sunday, but Singapore cautioned that other flights between Singapore and Dubai may be affected as the situation remains "fluid". BA, which is owned by IAG, said customers scheduled to travel between now and June 24 to Dubai and Doha can rebook on a later flight up to and including July 6, free of charge. Its teams continue to keep the situation under review, it added. Israel's carriers, El Al Israel Airlines, Arkia, Israir and Air Haifa, said earlier on Sunday they had suspended rescue flights that allowed people to return to Israel until further notice. Flag carrier El Al said it would also extend its cancellation of scheduled flights through Friday and Israir said it had halted the sale of tickets for all flights through July 7. A spokesperson for Israel's airports authority said the country's main airport, Ben Gurion near Tel Aviv, was expected to reopen for rescue flight landings on Sunday between 1100 and 1700 GMT. The small Haifa Airport serving Israel's north would also be open from 1100 to 1700 GMT. El Al, along with Arkia, Air Haifa and Israir said they would operate at least 10 flights on Sunday starting at 1100 GMT. Tens of thousands of Israelis and others who had booked tickets to Israel are stuck abroad. At the same time, nearly 40,000 tourists in Israel are looking to leave the country, some of whom are going via Jordan's borders to Amman and Aqaba and others via Egypt and by boat to Cyprus. Japan's foreign ministry said on Sunday it had evacuated 21 people, including 16 Japanese nationals, from Iran overland to Azerbaijan. It said it was the second such evacuation since Thursday and that it would conduct further evacuations if necessary. New Zealand's government said on Sunday it would send a Hercules military transport plane to the Middle East on standby on Sunday to evacuate New Zealanders from the region. The government was also in talks with commercial airlines to assess how they may be able to assist, it added.
