Seattle signs forward Natalie Snodgrass for its inaugural PWHL season

SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle signed forward Natalie Snodgrass to a one-year contract, the PWHL expansion team said Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Snodgrass spent the past two seasons with the Ottawa Charge, appearing in 44 regular-season games while recording eight points on two goals and six assists. Prior to joining Ottawa, Snodgrass spent one season with the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Premier Hockey Federation, with whom she tied for the team lead with 20 points.
Prior to playing professionally, Snodgrass captained the University of Connecticut team during her final year in school. Snodgrass racked up 139 points on 70 goals and 69 assists across her collegiate career. She also represented the United States at the IIHF U18 Women's World Championship, earning gold medals in both 2015 and 2016.
'Natalie is a strong skater with the versatility to play in a number of different roles,' Seattle general manager Meghan Turner said in a statement. 'She competes hard every shift and brings a consistent work ethic that makes her a valuable addition to our group. Her ability to adapt in all situations will make her an important piece of our lineup.'

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nicolas Jackson apologized to Chelsea fans after he was sent off with a red card during the team's 3-1 loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup on Friday. Jackson was also shown a red card last month in Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Newcastle. 'It happened against Newcastle and it happened today. Probably today I am not 100 percent sure it's a red card compared to the Newcastle one,' Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca said. 'So it's a little bit of a bad moment for Nico in this kind of things.' FIFA could give Jackson a longer suspension if it chooses to review the tackle. DeGrom (7-2) retired the first 11 batters and allowed two runs and five hits in six innings with one walk. One day after his 37th birthday, the two-time Cy Young Award winner extended his franchise record to 12 consecutive starts of allowing two runs or fewer and five hits or fewer. Seager homered with one out in the fifth inning off rookie Mike Burrows (1-2), a drive to right field to increase the Rangers' lead to 4-2. The five-time All-Star shortstop had gone 81 plate appearances without a home run while also being on the injured list from May 11-27 with a strained right hamstring. Burrows lasted 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits.
