Shimla's Tutu gets 3-storey parking
Himachal public works minister Vikramaditya Singh on Friday inaugurated a three-storey parking constructed at a cost of ₹6.5 crore at Tutu, a suburb of Shimla city.
Vikramaditya said the facility can accommodate 80 to 100 vehicles.
He said that efforts were made by former chief minister Virbhadra Singh to bring Shimla and Dharamshala under the Smart City mission, and the foundation stone of this facility was laid during his tenure.
The minister said that in the fourth phase of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, all remote areas of the state will be connected by roads. He said process is underway to construct ropeways from various places of Shimla at the cost of ₹1,600 crore.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 10 (ANI): The Public Works Department (PWD) Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Vikramaditya Singh, called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. He urged the declaration of the Ghatasni-Shilha-Badhani-Bhubujot-Kullu road as a National Highway, keeping in view its strategic significance. He said that there was an urgent need for an alternative connectivity to the Pathankot-Manali-Leh NH, and this road would not only serve the purpose but also shorten the distance by about 55 kilometres. 'It would also provide a stable highway besides boosting tourism and strengthening the rural economy,' he added. He urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to sanction the project. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assured to provide all possible support to the state. Earlier, on May 19, the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister of the Himachal Pradesh government said that the department was all set to start the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) stage four once it was approved by the Union government. Vikramaditya Singh detailed Himachal Pradesh's progress under the PMGSY, highlighting key milestones achieved in road infrastructure in rural and remote areas of the state.'Our government made sustained efforts to strengthen the road network across Himachal, especially in remote and backwards regions where all-weather connectivity was crucial,' Singh said. He reported that under PMGSY-III, 3,100 kilometres of roads and 43 bridges had already been sanctioned, with projects spread across Mandi, Kangra, and Hamirpur districts.'We executed PMGSY-III projects worth Rs 345 crore. Our goal was to complete these within 18 months. Already Rs 802 crore had been spent, and by the end of 2024-25, Rs 650 crore more was expected to be utilised out of the Rs 905 crore budget,' he said. Singh further shared that meetings with the Minister of State for Rural Development had yielded positive responses. (ANI)

Industries minister Harshwardhan Chauhan says Centre not distributing charity to Himachal
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh industries minister Harshwardhan Chauhan on Monday said that the central govt is not distributing charity to Himachal Pradesh, but the state is only getting its share, like all other 29 states of the country. Responding to the statements made by BJP MPs Anurag Thakur, Suresh Kashyap, and others that the central govt is providing sufficient funds to Himachal, the industries minister clarified that if Himachal is getting funds under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, or MGNREGA, it is the right of the state. "It is not the case that Himachal started getting these funds only when the BJP came to power in the Centre. Himachal used to get the same funds even when the previous govt was at the Centre as per the set pattern," he added. The minister, however, accused the central govt of not releasing funds to the state govt, especially around Rs 10,000 crore under the post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA), though the state govt sent the claims to the Centre in the financial year 2023-24. He claimed that the central govt is indirectly benefiting other states ruled by the BJP or its allies. Chauhan questioned the BJP leadership in Himachal about whether they got any funds or schemes sanctioned for the hill state other than what the state is getting under the existing schemes. The cabinet minister also held former chief minister and current leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur, as well as the previous BJP govt, responsible for putting Himachal into a financial mess and a vicious cycle of loans. Legend has it that King Vikramaditya of the Gupta Dynasty frequently disguised himself as a commoner to assess the wellbeing and conditions of his subjects. Recently, the secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, played the role of Vikramaditya to check how banks were serving their customers. Of course, unlike the ruler of Ujjain, he was not in disguise. On April 8, after lunch, M Nagaraju, a 1993-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, left North Block, which houses the finance ministry, and drove down to the Parliament Street branch of a large public-sector bank. Posing as a customer, he wanted to say hello to the branch manager. The secretary was directed to an officer by the head of the branch who was too busy talking on his mobile phone. Even the second banker didn't care much to talk to him. At that point, Nagaraju politely revealed that he was the boss of the bank's boss.
