Govt focused on improving farmers lives: Karnataka minister Laxmi Hebbalkar
UDUPI: Women and Child Development minister
Laxmi Hebbalkar
emphasised that under chief minister Siddaramaiah's leadership, the state administration is implementing initiatives focused on supporting and improving the lives of farmers.
During the inauguration of a Raitha Samparka Kendra (RSK) at Koteshwara on Sunday, the minister highlighted that farmers in the state received consistent support, regardless of the governing administration.
'RSKs serve as vital information hubs, disseminating knowledge about cutting-edge agricultural technologies to farmers.
Through these centres, farmers can enhance their earnings by adopting modern techniques.

These facilities are tasked with providing details about governmental initiatives, superior quality seeds, and appropriate fertilisers for cultivation.
While the agriculture department offers various subsidised equipment, farmers can only benefit from these schemes when officials ensure adequate awareness and publicity,'
Hebbalkar
said.
She insisted that the district administration and the agriculture department work as a bridge between farmers and the govt.
They have the responsibility to ensure that the benefits of all schemes reach the doorsteps of the farmers. The purpose of RSKs will be served only if officials work in this direction, she added.
'India is primarily an agricultural nation, and former Prime Minister
Lal Bahadur Shastri
gave us the slogan of '
Jai Jawan
,
Jai Kisan
'. All of us know very well that we will have to remain hungry if our farmers stay away from the farms. If our nation is developing as a 'Vishwa Guru', it is an outcome of the hard work and dedication of the farmers that paved the way for this achievement.
India, which was importing food grains, has become an exporter as we are growing crops excessively,' she said.
'Through divine intervention and the collective goodwill of well-wishers, I survived a severe accident that could have been fatal. I stand before you today, grateful for this second chance at life,' the minister said.
Kundapur MLA Kiran
Kumar Kodgi
said that there is a need for the govt to announce a support price for paddy. He said that the area of paddy cultivation is dwindling. He mentioned previous experiences of farmers who faced inconvenience due to a shortage of seeds. Officials ensured a sufficient stock of seeds, he said, adding that the information needs to be shared among farmers.

Watch: Mahmoud Khalil reunites with family after 104 days in detention; vows to speak up for Palestine even if threatened with death
Mahmoud Khalil reunited with family (Photo: AP) Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian rights advocate and Columbia University graduate, was released after spending over three months in US immigration detention, reuniting with his wife and infant son. The 30-year-old legal US resident walked free from a Louisiana facility on Friday evening after a federal judge ruled his detention unconstitutional. Khalil landed at Newark Airport in New Jersey on Saturday. He was met by cheering supporters and walked out with his wife, Noor Abdalla, and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Khalil was seen pushing his baby son, Deen, in a stroller, raising his fist with a Palestinian keffiyeh over his shoulders. — MeghnadBose93 (@MeghnadBose93) Khalil, who faced no criminal charges, was among the most well-known pro-Palestinian students targeted by the Trump administration during campus protests against Israel's war on Gaza. ICE agents in plain clothes arrested him in March in front of his pregnant wife. 'If they threaten me with detention, even if they would kill me, I would still speak up for Palestine,' Khalil said during a press conference at the airport. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트, 지금 시작하세요 [자세히 보기] 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo 'I just want to go back and continue the work I was already doing, advocating for Palestinian rights, a speech that should actually be celebrated rather than punished.' His release followed a ruling from federal judge Michael Farbiarz in Newark, who said the government had failed to prove Khalil posed a flight risk or a danger. '[He] is not a danger to the community,' Farbiarz had said. 'Period, full stop.' The judge further concluded that detaining someone over a civil immigration matter amounted to unconstitutional punishment. The Trump administration has filed a notice of appeal, according to NBC. Khalil's release came after mounting public pressure and legal efforts, with support from multiple Jewish students and faculty at Columbia University. Khalil was previously seen as a bridge-builder, acting as a lead negotiator in 2024 between Jewish and pro-Palestinian student groups during the campus protests. During a past CNN appearance, he said: 'The liberation of the Palestinian people and the Jewish people are intertwined and go hand-by-hand, and you cannot achieve one without the other.' Khalil had missed the birth of his son, his graduation, and both Mother's Day and Father's Day while in custody. He had only briefly been allowed to see his newborn once earlier in June. 'This is not over, and we will have to continue to support this case,' said Ocasio-Cortez. 'The persecution based on political speech is wrong, and it is a violation of all of our First Amendment rights, not just Mahmoud's.' Upon his release, Khalil said outside the Jena facility, 'Trump and his administration, they chose the wrong person for this. That doesn't mean there is a right person for this. There is no right person who should be detained for actually protesting a genocide.' 'No one is illegal – no human is illegal,' he added. 'Justice will prevail no matter what this administration may try.' As part of the release conditions, Khalil had to surrender his passport and green card and must stay within specific states including New York, Michigan, and Louisiana, notifying authorities of his address within 48 hours, reports the Independent. On Sunday evening, a rally celebrating his release and demanding freedom for other detained immigrants and Palestinians will be held at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in Manhattan.

Patil writes to CM on mining scams, BJP questions timing
Bengaluru/Raichur: Law minister HK Patil has written a detailed letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah expressing deep concern over the govt's failure to act on thousands of illegal mining cases that allegedly led to a loss of Rs 1.5 lakh crore between 2007 and 2011. In a seven-page letter dated June 18, Patil criticised the "administrative apathy" in handling these cases and called for stern action against the culprits and recovery of lost public wealth. He reminded Siddaramaiah of the 320-km foot march to Ballari in 2010 against illegal mining when the Congress was in opposition. Patil, who headed the cabinet sub-committee on illegal mining during Siddaramaiah's previous term (2013–18), noted in the letter that only 7.6% of more than 12,000 registered illegal mining cases have been investigated so far. "In just 2 per cent of these seven per cent, which means in only 0.2 per cent of the total number of cases, verdicts have come and cases have seen a conclusion," he further added. In Raichur, Patil on Saturday said, "I have brought it to the notice of the CM about what has to be done. The letter is written in the interest of the state and its people. The chief minister has seen the letter and has taken the matter seriously." He also warned that documents related to these illegalities should not be destroyed and called for vigilance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Suggesting fresh measures, he proposed appointing a recovery commissioner under the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 1946, creation of a new SIT, and a special court for speedy trial. BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya questioned the timing. "I am happy that law minister wrote a seven-page letter to CM, reminding him of the commitment he had made to recover the iron ore scam money... I wonder why Patil took so long to remind his CM on the unrecovered funds. Timing is everything in politics."

No need to learn moral lessons from MLA Sunil Kumar: Min
Udupi: Women and child development minister and Udupi district minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said, "There is no need to learn moral lessons from MLA . What does moral authority even mean? Let him first understand morality before lecturing others." Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The minister was responding to Sunil Kumar's allegation that Hebbalkar lacked moral right to speak on activist Chakravarthy Sulibele. She questioned, "What does he mean by saying the district minister lacks moral right? Sunil Kumar speaks well but seems to believe he alone holds all the wisdom and others are fools," she said. On a question by Sunil Kumar about the number of anganwadi centres under her department, the minister responded, "There are around 69,000 anganwadi buildings in the state, of which about 12,000 are rented. Do I need to speak everything about Sunil Kumar? You are asking about my department? Come, I will give you all the details." Further, she said, "I know exactly how many anganwadis there are in the state, how many anganwadi workers are there, how many are functioning from rented buildings, how many are govt-owned, how many are in rural areas, how many in towns, and how many are in poor condition. I even know how many are in your (Sunil Kumar's) constituency." "Protest is a constitutional right. If the opposition has nothing else to do, let them protest. The central govt is being unfair when it comes to development. Let them protest against the injustice by the central govt. NREGA funds were not released. Can they protest about that? The BJP is trying to mislead the public and are protesting to cover up internal party conflicts. This is all BJP's drama. Even BJP workers are tired. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Wherever you go, they express dissatisfaction with their leaders. These protests are just a distraction tactic to blame the Congress," she alleged. Responding to allegations that Hindutva activists were being targeted and externed, and in particular, targeting Hindutva activist Srikanth Shetty, the minister said, "We are not targeting any intellectual or orator. It is important to protect communal harmony in society. No attempt should be made to divide the society. One must review Srikant Shetty's past speeches and the truth will be out," she said.
