DC fast charging network: BYD Pakistan enters partnership with HGL
KARACHI: BYD Pakistan - Mega Motor Company (BYD|MMC) has partnered with HUBCO Green (Private) Limited (HGL) to launch the country's largest DC fast-charging network for new energy vehicles (NEVs).
This nation-wide rollout of infrastructure marks one of the most significant developments in the country's shift towards electric mobility by addressing a critical gap in Pakistan's EV ecosystem, and establishing the most extensive NEV charging network, making clean, reliable, and sustainable transportation a reality for the people of Pakistan.
As part of this strategic and groundbreaking roadmap, HGL will install approximately 128 DC fast chargers across the country over the next three years, with 50 installations planned by December 2025.
The network will be strategically developed across three key areas: Urban centers will be powered through partnerships with major Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) such as PSO, PARCO Gunvor, and Attock Petroleum Limited; intercity highways and motorways with chargers placed every 150-200 kilometres to support long distance travel; and destination charging points at commercial hubs, malls, hotels, and hospitals to enhance customer convenience.
Several key installations are already operational in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, including at PSO stations and BYD Pakistan dealerships.
This initiative plays a pivotal role and directly supports Pakistan's transition toward sustainable mobility by making NEVs a viable and convenient choice for the masses.
The move positions BYD Pakistan as one of the first auto manufacturers to invest in infrastructural development at an extensive level, cementing a commitment toward sustainable investment and development of Pakistan.

Govt urged to give special package to SMEs
KARACHI: Convener of the FPCCI Energy Committee, President of Pakistan Business Forum (Karachi Chapter), and Chairman & CEO of Malik Group, Malik Khuda Bakhsh has urged the government to introduce a special package for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He stated that this policy represents a step toward clean energy, sustainable transport, and industrial growth. He added that the government must create more opportunities for new investment, as foreign investors are willing to invest in Pakistan but currently lack the necessary facilities. He called on the government to provide full support and facilitation for investors. Bakhsh further shared that the installation of EV charging stations has already begun in Karachi and other parts of the country. A contract has been signed with a Chinese company for this purpose, which will ensure improved energy supply for vehicles. He also disclosed that CNG station owners in Sindh— including in Motorway, Nawabshah, Hala, Sukkur, and Hyderabad— as well as in other provinces, have approached them to set up EV charging stations, and several more agreements are expected soon. He expressed satisfaction over the National Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy 30-2025 issued by the Government of Pakistan. He described the policy, presented by Haroon Akhtar Khan (Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries & Production), as a historic and revolutionary step toward reforms in Pakistan's industrial, environmental, and energy sectors. Bakhsh said that the new Electric Vehicle Policy is fully aligned with Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif's vision, which aims to promote clean, sustainable, and affordable transport. OGRA directs oil companies to maintain 20-day reserves amid Iran-Israel conflict

Photo: AFP Listen to article The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has directed all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to maintain fuel reserves to ensure uninterrupted supply across the country amid evolving market conditions following the Iran-Israel conflict. In a statement issued on Saturday, OGRA spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi said all OMCs have been instructed to maintain the mandatory 20-day fuel reserves as required under their licensing terms. "OGRA further emphasises that companies must fully comply with these conditions to ensure smooth fuel supply nationwide," the statement said. Ghaznavi added that Pakistan currently has sufficient petroleum reserves to meet domestic demand. "There are adequate petroleum stocks in the country to meet present consumption levels. OGRA is actively monitoring the situation and ensuring strict oversight to uphold national energy security," he said. He further noted that proactive steps are being taken to address future energy requirements and respond to shifting market dynamics. "OGRA remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted energy supply and strengthening national energy security," Ghaznavi affirmed. Iran–Israel Conflict The recent conflict between Iran and Israel has escalated into the most intense direct confrontation in their history, as both countries exchange large-scale strikes. Israel launched 'Operation Rising Lion' with a surprise attack on June 13, targeting Iranian military leadership, nuclear facilities, and ballistic missile production sites. The operation resulted in the deaths of hundreds, including top Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists. Among those killed in the Israeli strikes were the intelligence chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and two senior generals alongside Iran's eight nuclear scientists.
