Iraq participates in OIC summit as regional tensions intensify
Istanbul ( – Iraq's Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein headed the Iraqi delegation to the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Istanbul. Also in attendance was Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who had just arrived from Geneva following high-level talks with foreign ministers of the UK, France, and Germany. The session began with Cameroon's Foreign Minister Lejeune Mbella transferring the rotating presidency of the Council to Turkey, represented by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. In his remarks, Fidan described the meeting as taking place under exceptional regional pressures, particularly in light of Israel's continued airstrikes on Iran. He warned that such actions were destabilizing the entire region and accused Israel of seeking to uproot the Palestinian people. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also addressed the gathering, condemning the escalation of Israeli military operations over the past two years—starting with Gaza and the West Bank, expanding to Lebanon and Syria, and now targeting Iran. Erdoğan defended Iran's right to respond and criticized the lack of international accountability for Israel's nuclear capabilities, arguing that Israel uses diversion tactics to escape scrutiny.

Erdogan: Israel wants to set the world on fire
Shafaq News/ On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that Israel's actions in the Middle East risk igniting a regional conflict, urging Islamic nations to present a unified front. Addressing an emergency summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Erdogan denounced Israel's strikes on Iranian territory as violations of international law and affirmed Tehran's right to respond. 'We are confident that victory will be on Iran's side,' he declared, expressing full solidarity with the Iranian government. He accused Israel of fueling instability across Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran, comparing its actions to those of Nazi Germany. 'Just as the spark ignited by Hitler 90 years ago set the world on fire, Netanyahu's Zionist ambitions serve no purpose other than dragging the world into disaster." Erdogan's comments come amid a sharp escalation between Iran and Israel, triggered by Israel's unprecedented airstrike on Iranian territory earlier this month, to which Tehran responded with large-scale missile and drone attacks.
