Rampur cop's request to join Indo-Pak conflict leads to his sudden transfer
: A request by a 2011 batch UP police head constable to send him to the Pakistan border to fight for India in the ongoing conflict between the two countries has resulted in his sudden transfer from Rampur to Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district, which borders Nepal.The move is being viewed as a punishment and he is also in for disciplinary action.
Head constable Chaman Singh made his request for a combat role in a letter to the UP Director General of Police (DGP). He also wrote that he is trained to operate assault rifles like INSAS, SLR and AK-47, so he should be given chance to fight for the country at the border.'The constable shared this letter and his video on different social media platforms on Friday. In the video, he could be heard stating that he voluntarily wanted to participate in the conflict,' a senior Rampur police official said.
In an official statement shared by Rampur police on X, police officials mentioned that this act of sharing video on social media regarding the 'bizarre' request comes under the category of indiscipline.
'Disciplinary action will be taken against him,' the statement read.Rampur superintendent of police (SP) Vidya Sagar Mishra said there are certain procedures to join the army and nobody could join such a crucial operation on a whim.
'No such situation has come where the police personnel have been asked to join the army. It is a very bizarre request just to hog the limelight,' he said. 'The head constable has been transferred to Lakhimpur Kheri, and his reliving order has been issued on Friday evening,' he added. Rampur police officials stated that the transfer, considered a punishment, was already under process. Lakhimpur Kheri district comes under the Lucknow zone and range.
He was immediately relieved from Rampur which comes under the Moradabad range of the Bareilly zone.
'Under a routine transfer, the head constable would have been first transferred to the Lucknow zone headquarters from where he would have been allotted the Lucknow range or the Ayodhya range. Thereafter, he would have been allotted one of the five districts that comes under the Lucknow range,' a senior IPS officer said.

The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore PX5 pistols. (HT) Police have arrested a local operative of the module and recovered six foreign-made pistols from his possession, director general of police Gaurav Yadav said. The arrested accused has been identified as Onkar Singh alias Nawab, a resident of Jalalusma village in Amritsar. The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore PX5 pistols. The DGP said foreign-based handler Dharam Singh, who has been operating the terror module, is a close associate of Pak-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda. Further investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case and unearth the broader network, he said. Sharing operation details, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest followed precise intelligence and coordination. 'The accused disclosed during interrogation that the weapons were delivered via drones and were meant for disruptive activities,' he added. He said preliminary investigations revealed the accused was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. 'The weapons were to be distributed among local operatives to execute targeted killings and terror activities in the state. We are working to uncover the entire network and its international linkages,' Bhullar said, adding that further investigations are underway to identify other accomplices and handlers. A case under the Arms Act has been registered at Maqboolpura police station in Amritsar.

117 drug smugglers arrested; 7.5kg heroin, over s 39K recovered
Chandigarh: The Punjab Police, under the state govt's 'war against drugs' initiative, arrested 117 drug smugglers on Saturday and recovered 7.5 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, and Rs 39,640 in drug money from their possession. In the last 112 days, the police have arrested 18,524 drug smugglers. The operation was conducted on the directions of the director general of police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav simultaneously in all the 28 police districts of the state. Special director general of police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla informed that over 200 police teams, comprising over 1,300 police personnel, under the supervision of 87 gazetted officers, conducted raids at as many as 481 locations across the state. The opeartion led to the registration of 84 FIRs, said the ADGP, adding that the police teams also checked 501 suspicious persons during the day-long operation, he said. The state govt has enforced a three-pronged strategy — enforcement, deaddiction and prevention (EDP) — to eradicate drugs from the state, said Shukla. The Punjab Police, as part of the 'de-addiction' drive, convinced 74 people to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, he added.

AGTF nabs ex-police commando who joined Anandpal, Bishnoi gangs
Jaipur: State police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Saturday arrested a former Rajasthan police commando who joined ranks of notorious gangsters Anandpal and Lawrence Bishnoi and was wanted in multiple criminal cases across the state, including a firing at a hotel in Churu district last year. Churu police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for his capture. Praveen Singh Jodi, 43, hails from Jodi village in Bhaleri police station area of Churu district. He joined the police force in 2001 as a constable and later served in the police commando unit in Jhalawar. However, his links with gangsters grew over time. He was found to be associated with shooter Ankit Bhadu from the Lawrence gang and was also involved with the Anandpal gang. These associations led to his dismissal from service on May 22, 2019. Following his dismissal, Praveen became an active player in the state's gang network. According to police, he supplied contact numbers of local businessmen to key members of Anandpal and Lawrence gangs, including to Rohit Godara and Virendra, who then used this information to extort money. A special team arrested him there. He has now been handed over to Kotwali police station in Churu. Police officials said Praveen was linked to the firing incident at Suncity Hotel in Churu on Aug 17 last year. In that case, two men on a bike fired shots at the hotel. While no one was injured, the attackers managed to flee. Hotel employee Manjat Ali lodged an FIR against unknown persons, prompting Churu police to announce a cash reward for Praveen's arrest. Earlier, AGTF had arrested another member of the same gang network, Jitendra Singh alias Jeetu Jodi, who is from the same village. During the raid, an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and a large cache of ammunition were seized from Jeetu's farmland.
