Swimming pool application for Great Campston mansion
The Welsh prince suffered a defeat in his battle against the English crown and its forces in the Battle of Campstone Hill in August 1404.
The Great Campston estate has medieval origins and was one of17 monastic granges belonging to the Cistercian Abbey of Abbey Dore. Following the dissolution of the monasteries, in 1536, it was granted to John Cokke of London before it was acquired, in 1600, by John Pritchard, a notable figure in the history of Grosmont, near Abergavenny.
More than 200 years after the last native prince of Wales was defeated at the site the house, which is now at the end of a 450 metre private drive, was visited by King Charles I in 1645 on his way to Raglan after the Battle of Naseby.
The house, which was granted grade II listed status in 1952, has remained in continuous occupation and current owner Andrew Blowers has applied to Monmouthshire County Council for planning permission for a gym and swimming pool complex, for private use, in its grounds.
The timber frame, with some stone facing, swimming pool and gym building will include a plant room and patio area and would be around 50 metres south east of Great Campston House. There is also a grade II listed barn, which was awarded the status in 2002, in the grounds.
This is where the gym and swimming pool at Great Campston House is proposed to be built.
While the house dates back to the 17th century it has been remodelled and enlarged notably in 2002 and there is still a working farm on site.
The proposed u-shaped pool and gym would be built on a flat, grassed area of made-up ground near to a modern shed and greenhouse. There would also be car ports.

A heritage statement has been submitted with the application and a planning statement said that 'concluded that the proposed building on this site would have no impact on the listed house or its setting and would result in a very minor change to the setting of the listed barn. There is no adverse impact on the specific ground on which the new building is proposed as this is the site of former buildings and the site has been artificially levelled'.
According to the application consideration was given to using the grade II-listed barn for the swimming pool, gym and car ports as it is 'under-utilised' and has sufficient space but it was agreed redevelopment 'would cause significant adverse impact on the listed building'.
As a result it was decided a new building would have 'the least heritage impact' and the plans are being considered by council planners.

English golfer drags himself out of ambulance for eye-watering £400k pay day
Harry Hall says anyone would go to work feeling sick with so much cash on the line Battling Harry Hall went from ambulance to Top 10 and over £400,000 at the Travelers Championship after dragging himself through illness. The English star maintained a terrific run of recent form to fire a sizzling last-round 65 and shoot up the boards. Hall backed-up at Top 20 at the PGA Championship and a tied-sixth alongside Scotland's Bob MacIntyre at the Charles Schwab, but it was not without considerable drama as he revealed after the event the struggles he had to even get through the tournament. The 27-year-old considered withdrawing from the competition on Saturday morning as he toiled badly prior to his third round and only got through due to medical intervention with the knowledge he was playing for big points and big bucks another driving force. Hall bagged $540,000 for finishing just three shots behind World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and No.2 Rory McIlroy as Keegan Bradley won and explained: 'I was in the locker room debating whether to withdraw or not because I didn't feel great at all and ended up teeing off without a warm-up and without a swing, just went straight to the first tee after getting two IVs in the ambulance and just battled my way around for one-under yesterday. I think that kept me in the tournament. I think I just did well to play, to be honest. 'What inspired me to play? I did think it's a Signature Event if I can just survive 18 holes and not give up any ground or have a chance to have a decent tournament, obviously the points and the money. I think anyone else would turn up to work sick if they could make a quarter of a million, I think is what I was in. So I'm definitely turning up. 'Friday night I was sick all night, yeah. I think there's a bug that's been going around. I think Eric Cole didn't make it because he was sick.' Hall's efforts paid dividends and with solid form over he past half-dozen events, he's rising the standings and up to World No.74. He said: 'I'm hitting the ball really nice. I focused a lot the last couple weeks on my grip. Which I think has helped my dispersion a little bit and just my consistency and my ball striking. That with just honing in my swing and everything's in a good spot.' Hall is now inside the Top 50 for the FedEx play-offs sitting at 47th and added: 'I think it's massive. The Tour's getting so competitive and to have an edge by being in all the elevated events where the points are elevated too, just to have that opportunity to make a schedule and have it determined at the start of the year and to have a chance to play for as many points and as much money, I think it's huge.'

£17m refusal and fan argument tells Man Utd a lot as Sancho 'swap deal' emerges
Manchester United may be able to finally offload Jadon Sancho in a swap deal that would see a top European striker with a strong personality head to Old Trafford A potential swap deal that would see Manchester United part ways with Jadon Sancho and welcome Dusan Vlahovic could be on the cards. The Englishman is expected to be sold this summer after spending the entirety of last season on loan to Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Conference League. Sancho's last game so far for the Red Devils came in the Community Shield last year, with his likely sale putting an end to what has been a hugely disappointing period for both parties. Among the possibilities of his possible departure is the 25-year-old leaving English football to join Juventus in exchange for the Serbian striker. Vlahovic, who was a prior target for Arsenal, has largely played a bench role at the Italian giants since the loan arrival of Randal Kolo-Muani in January. Reports in Italy have said that the club are proposing to offer the striker - who has a year left on his contract - in order to capture Sancho, who has 'not let go' of the winger since first registering interest in signing him last year, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. While Vlahovic has maintained a respectable goal-scoring record of 57 goals in 144 games, the 25-year-old has failed to replicate the devastating form in front of goal that he showed during his time at Fiorentina. He did score 16 goals across all competitions this season, which is just one less than Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managed combined. On top of his superiority as a scorer ahead of their forward options, the Premier League giants will certainly be buoyed by reports from Corriere dello Sport that Vlahovic turned down a mammoth offer worth £17million a year from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr earlier this year. Not yet in his prime, the decision to remain in a top European league will come as a positive sign to United chiefs about the desire the Serb has to accomplish honours at the highest level rather than taking a cash grab. A player devoted to his club and team-mates is certainly a sought-after attribute and it's one Vlahovic displayed last season during a trying time for Juventus. After a fourth consecutive Serie A draw where his side could only muster up a 2-2 draw against Venezia, the Juve players, as per tradition, walked over to the fans under the Curva to thank them for their support. However, the feeling wasn't mutual. The supporters hurled insults and disrespectful chants at the players, which Vlahovic didn't take too kindly to as he shouted back at the fans. According to Sky Sport Italia, despite the players walking away, the fans continued with the insults, which prompted the striker to turn to them and gesture a sarcastic thumbs-up at them. While it's never healthy for a player to argue with their own fans, it shows United that Vlahovic isn't afraid to speak his mind and will stand up for his teammates when he feels it is necessary. Adding such a strong personality to the dressing room could have both positive and negative effects, and Ruben Amorim will no doubt be taking a lot of different factors into consideration as he continues his search for more reinforcements this summer, including a new striker. Amorim has so far overseen the arrival of one new signing this summer in Matheus Cunha, who they bought for £62.5m from Wolves. While interest remains in Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres, United are said to face competition for the attackers from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, respectively.
