Sports complex undergoes overhaul ahead of Games

: The state capital is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares to host the
Khelo India Youth Games 2025
from May 4. The
Pataliputra Sports Complex
is undergoing a transformation with state-of-the-art upgrades and infrastructure developments in full swing.
The Games will be held in five locations – Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Begusarai. The inauguration will be held at the Pataliputra Sports Complex here.
Ravindran Shankaran, director General of the
Bihar State Sports Authority
(BSSA), said, "Upgradation work is being carried out throughout the campus from the main gate to the sports complex. A VIP lounge is being made in the east stand gallery. This will be fully air-conditioned. Thick glass will be used at the front, providing a clear view of the entire sports complex ground."
He added that the BSSA building is being modernised with rooms for players, coaches, officials, media conferences and office spaces, alongside upgraded toilets. The running track and football field have been developed to international standards, high-mast LED lighting installed and internal roads topped with asphalt.
"The entire sports complex has been painted, the entry gate arch refurbished and the VIP gallery upgraded with HPL panelling, a false ceiling and lighting," Shankaran said, adding that additional competition venues in Patna include IAS Bhavan, Gyan Bhavan, Ganga Pathway and BMP 5 Indoor Stadium.

They aim for greater success at the next Olympic edition in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028. Speaking on the significance of Olympic Day, Paris Games bronze medallist Sarabjot stated, 'This day is an important one for all of us and it reminds us of the efforts we all put in to earn the opportunity to compete in the biggest sporting event. For an athlete, a chance to represent the nation on the Olympic stage is the highest achievement. For me, to win a medal and stand on the podium is a memory that I will cherish forever." He further added, 'Our success at the Paris Olympics and the recent shooting events this year has truly sparked a fire within all the athletes to do our best. We are confident that the Indian shooters will win even more medals in LA and continue to make the nation proud." Paris Olympics medal-winning shooter Kusale echoed Sarabjot's sentiments, stating, 'Because of our success last year at the Games, all of us feel excited to celebrate the Olympic Day this year. ‘Ahmedabad on path to becoming Games-ready'
Gandhinagar: On the eve of World Olympic Day, which is being observed on Monday, Gujarat govt said that Ahmedabad is rapidly moving towards becoming the host city for the 2036 Olympics. Last Oct, the Indian Olympic Association made a formal bid for India to host the 2036 Games, and Ahmedabad is a strong contender, the govt said on Sunday. An official statement said that as part of the preparations, the Gujarat Sports Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (GSID) is the nodal agency and will be building six sports complexes for Rs 6,000 crore. In addition, new sports facilities will be built in Pethapur, Karai Police Academy, GIFT City, and Manipur-Godhavi. These facilities in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will be able to host more than 80% of the Games events, the official statement said. The govt said that the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) has 24 district-level and six taluka-level sports complexes. In addition, 20 sports hostels in the state provide residential and training facilities to as many as 4,000 sportspersons. "SAG is working to boost the sports ecosystem by strengthening the sports infrastructure in the state through a total of 31 new sports complexes, including 13 at the district level and 18 at the taluka level, in the coming time," the statement said. The new sports complexes will come up in 13 districts, including Amreli, Anand, Bharuch, Botad, Chhota Udepur, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Jamnagar, Mahisagar, Morbi, Navsari, Surendranagar and Valsad.
