Walmart to pay $10M to settle FTC charges related to wire transfer services
Walmart (WMT) will pay $10M to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it turned a blind eye to scammers who used its in-store money transfer services to take hundreds of millions of dollars from U.S. consumers. The FTC's June 2022 complaint alleged that between 2013 and 2018, Walmart allowed its money transfer services to be used by scammers who defrauded consumers out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Walmart failed to implement effective anti-fraud policies and procedures, did not properly train its employees, and failed to warn customers about potential fraud related to money transfers, according to the complaint. In June 2023, the FTC filed an amended complaint adding further details related to the company's alleged telemarketing violations. In July 2024, the district court dismissed the Commission's Telemarketing Sales Rule claim for the second time, presenting a significant hurdle for the Commission to obtain monetary relief for consumers in the litigation. In November 2024, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals granted Walmart permission to appeal certain rulings by the district court. The stipulated order announced resolves the FTC's case against Walmart and is intended to ensure the company does not engage in similar alleged conduct in the future. In addition to imposing the $10M judgment, the order prohibits Walmart from: providing money transfer services without taking timely and appropriate action to effectively detect and prevent fraud-induced money transfers; sending or paying out any money transfer that it knows, or consciously avoids knowing, is a fraud-induced money transfer; substantially assisting or supporting any seller or telemarketer that it knows, or consciously avoids knowing, is accepting a cash-to-cash money transfer as payment for goods, services or charitable contributions sought through telemarketing and substantially assisting or supporting any telemarketer that it knows, or consciously avoids knowing, has asked a consumer to pay in advance for a loan or credit extension. The Commission vote approving the stipulated final order was 3-0.

Jetoptera Executes FETT for FTC-250 at Paris Air Show 2025
PARIS, June 21, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — On the occasion of Jetoptera's debut at the Paris Air Show 2025, we are proud to announce the successful completion of the first test of the engine that will power the J-500, the 500-lb VTOL cargo unmanned aircraft system Jetoptera is developing in collaboration with Eanan Al Samma, for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) market. The First Engine To Test (FETT) was evaluated at the VAN DER LEE Turbo Systems facilities in Zaandam, The Netherlands. The 250 kW turbocompressor, that is the heart of the Fluidic Propulsive System™, is a two-shaft engine using a free turbine that is mechanically coupled to a two-stage axial compressor designed to produce the appropriate flow rates and pressure ratios required by the FPS™. 'The FETT demonstrated a very smooth startup and operability when operated in a turbofan mode. The engine was instrumented in this configuration, to monitor pressure and temperature as well as thrust produced. The next step includes the performance mapping of the turbocompressor, followed by the integration with the FPS™ onto the J-500 airframe,' said Dr Andrei Evulet, CEO/CTO of Jetoptera, Inc. The J-500 prototype is developed specifically for the UAE and MENA market and will be uniquely enabled by the FPS™ to perform unmanned cargo missions with VTOL and unmatched speed, low noise, and reliability thanks to the patented propulsion system. The modularity of the FTC-250 system allows its components to operate in turbojet, turbofan and FPS™ modes. Jetoptera and Eanan Al Samma thank Parametric Solutions, Inc. and VAN DER LEE Turbo Systems for their critical support in the design and manufacturing of the unique FTC-250 architecture in record time. Walmart Tries to Shed a Stodgy Vibe to Battle Digital-Native Rivals
'There are no cash registers in the home office.' It's a mantra at Walmart and a reminder that every dollar earned comes from its nearly 11,000 stores worldwide. Everything done at its corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., is an expense. For decades that expense was minimal — the retailer's main office was a spartan distribution center with wood-paneled offices and few windows. Most of the white-collar employees here were focused on merchandising and logistics. But that thinking has changed as the company has had to figure out how to compete in an increasingly tech-fueled, competitive industry. A big symbol of that is a multibillion-dollar splurge on a new headquarters meant to attract and retain top talent and modernize the ethos of the discount store Sam Walton founded in 1962. Walmart built its empire by dominating on price. But to maintain that empire it must now compete on convenience, breadth and speed. During Associates Week — its annual gathering of thousands of employees from around the world — the company made a number of tech-focused announcements, like a new artificial intelligence assistant that it says will help customers shop online and an expansion of its drone home-delivery operation to more cities. The new 350-acre Bentonville campus has a hotel, a food hall, an amphitheater, and massive fitness and child care centers. There are electric bikes to get around. Robots cut the grass and clean the windows. Winding paths, which are open to the public, snake through it all. The idyllic grounds, with more 750,000 native plants, would not be out of place among those of the biggest tech companies in the world. The first building opened in January, and the 12th and final building is slated to open at the end of this year. Around 15,000 corporate employees will fill the home office, moving from the old warehouselike headquarters and two dozen buildings scattered around Bentonville. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Walmart (WMT) Gets Price Target Hike to $103 from RBC Capital
Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) is one of the best stocks to buy. On June 9, RBC Capital maintained an Outperform rating on Walmart and increased the target price from $102 to $103. The update came after the firm took part in Walmart's Annual Associates & Shareholders Week held in Northwest Arkansas. In the event, the tone of Walmart's leadership aligned with the impressions from the Q1 earnings call in mid-May. Steven Shemesh, an RBC analyst, observed uniformity in Walmart's messaging and insights from five primary data points during the event. RBC revised its financial model for Walmart to indicate the present foreign exchange rates, while the rest of the model remained unchanged. In the future, RBC Capital forecasts a consistent increase in Walmart's net sales, projecting a 4.3% boost in 2025 and 5% in 2026. These estimates marginally top the consensus figures, which project a growth of 4% and 5% for 2025 and 2026, respectively. Niloo / RBC's expectations for adjusted EPS are also slightly higher than consensus estimates. The firm expects an adjusted EPS of $2.64 for 2025 and $3.02 for 2026, in comparison to the consensus figures of $2.60 and $2.92, respectively. The target price of $103 is derived from roughly 34x the firm's forecasted 2026 adjusted EPS of $3.02, up from the previous estimate of $3.01. The slight change in the target price represents RBC's conviction in Walmart's financial performance and growth potential over the coming years.
