Walmart just launched a new Onn 4K Plus streaming stick — and it's cheaper than Roku
Walmart's got another trick up its sleeve in devising one of the best streaming devices with the discovery of a product page for a new Onn 4K Plus.
9To5Google caught the updated listing, showing Walmart's new streaming box with a price of just $29. That's a huge discount over the Onn 4K Pro that launched last year at $49, and even flies in the face of the newly-debuted Roku Streaming Stick Plus, which comes in at $39.
Walmart has yet to officially announce the product, so details are sparse at the moment. But with its leveraging of Google TV, the device could serve as a new value pick in the face of Chromecast's departure from the market.
The product listing for Walmart's new Onn 4K Plus does give us deeper insight into the device's makeup, highlighting its Google TV operating system and 2GB of RAM. It's also set to have Google Assistant support, owing to its OS, which should give it a leg up in all things search and smart home functionality.
If accurate, the pricing is also a major win for Walmart. As stated already, it's cheaper than Roku's newest Streaming Stick Plus and even beats out the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (though, that is on sale for the same price of $29 at the time of writing).
Unlike the new Roku Streaming Stick Plus, the Onn 4K Plus will also have Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support, according to the product listing, making it an even better deal at a $10 discount. The device's W-Fi capabilities are still TBD at the moment, but it will probably support Wi-Fi 6 for some extra performance with other Google smart home devices.
The Onn 4K Plus could prove a major win for fans of streaming devices who aren't out buying one of the best TVs each year, as it slots in perfectly into the budget space left in the wake of Google Chromecast's departure.

An official release for the Onn 4K Plus is still pending Walmart's official announcement, but the product details do indicate a 2025 launch window. We'll need to get the Onn 4K Plus in for testing before we can make any final judgments on Walmart's new device, but its competitive pricing and purported specs make it one serious new entry in the market.

Google's pulling money away from Android TV and Google TV
Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Google has reportedly reduced the budget for its smart TV group by 10%. Despite the reduction, the company promises 'an exciting road map ahead.' Up to a quarter of the members of the 300-strong group could be impacted by the change. Google has not made it particularly easy to be a fan of Android TV. While the platform is absolutely chock-full of potential, it's been incredibly frustrating to see it treated like such an afterthought, year after year. Why is no one making high-end Android TV hardware? How has gaming on the platform been so utterly neglected? If you had any hope of Google maybe turning things around and breathing some fresh life into Android TV, we've got some bad news for you. According to The Information, Google has made some significant cuts to its Google TV and Android TV programs. As many as a quarter of the 300-some employees making up its smart TV group could be affected, as Google reduces its budget by 10%. The news follows months of efforts to more broadly reduce the size of Google's platforms and devices group, with the company offering buyouts to the lucky (and layoffs to the not-so-much) — of which this smart TV group is part. This latest round just specifically targets Google's resources for further development of Google TV and Android TV. While Google may be less interested in your living room's big screen as a platform, this news arrives alongside word of YouTube's rise to dominance among major streaming platforms, and really highlights just how fractured the company's approach here is: Google cares very much about those living room eyeballs being glued to a YouTube stream, but seemingly much less if the stream's arriving via a Roku device, or Fire TV, or webOS. That said, it's not like Google is giving up on smart TVs entirely, and the group is reportedly looking to offset immediate personnel losses by increased international hiring. A spokesperson tells The Information: We continue to invest in Google TV with new user experiences including the upcoming integration of Gemini. There are more than 270 million Android TV devices, and we remain committed to growing this ecosystem with an exciting road map ahead. We'd love to see Google really kick its smart TV efforts up a notch, and while words like those sound encouraging, they're just really difficult to resolve against bottom-line moves like a 10% cut to the budget Got a tip? Walmart CFO talks private brand, delivery growth
As Walmart looks to broaden its grocery assortment, private brands are playing a major role, the company's CFO said at a recent conference. In particular, the company is seeing success with its Bettergoods grocery line, which launched last year and focuses on trendy and affordable items. "Bettergoods has been a big success story for us," John David Rainey, executive vice president and CFO of Walmart, said at the Oppenheimer Consumer Growth & E-Commerce Conference early this month, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript. The brand features approximately 400 items and has racked up almost $500 million in sales, Rainey said, noting that roughly 70% of that brand's items are priced below $5. "What's exciting to me about this is 40% of the customers that buy a Bettergood[s] item are coming back as repeat customers. … I think it really speaks to the quality of the overall assortment," Rainey said. Along with improving its stance on fresh foods, Walmart is also focused on convenience for its customers, he added. Pharmacy delivery, which is available at the majority of the retailer's stores, is promoting "sticky behavior" among customers, Rainey said. Last fall, Walmart launched same-day pharmacy delivery nationwide. "[With] pharmacy delivery, we can easily provide the opportunity for customers to add in additional food items or add in general merchandise or maybe there's other items within the pharmacy that they want to have delivered … and there's no company that can do all three of those: [general merchandise], food and pharmacy," he said. E-commerce, especially delivery, is another key growth driver for the company. Reliable and fast delivery is the "single most compelling part of the value proposition" for its Walmart+ membership program, Rainey said. Walmart is encouraged by consumers' willingness to pay for speedier delivery. Walmart has almost doubled the number of deliveries done in under three hours from the first quarter of last year, Rainey said. In recent weeks, express delivery has accounted for as much as 40% of delivery orders, he said, noting that this quick delivery option accounted for one-third of delivery orders in the company's most recent quarter. "We continue to see that customers are willing to actually pay for that expedited delivery," he said. Copyright 2025 Industry Dive. All rights reserved.
