Ex-parachute regiment officer Mike Ellicock sets rowing record
A former Parachute Regiment officer has set a new record for rowing solo around Great Britain.Mike Ellicock, 50 and from Lewes, East Sussex, departed from his home town on 30 April and returned to the same spot, the John Harvey Tavern, on Wednesday evening, after completing the 1,820 mile (2,929km) journey in 49 days.Mr Ellicock was aiming to raise £30,000 and awareness for the charity Support Our Paras.He said he was "incredibly grateful to have been able to get around safely and so fast".
He is also the first person to complete the journey via the Great Glen.He said: "As a 25-year-old platoon commander, I was wounded in action during a hostage rescue in Sierra Leone but made a full recovery and subsequently had the privilege of commanding paratroopers on operations again before making a successful and rewarding transition into civilian life."Not all my former brothers in arms were so fortunate - and that's why I chose this challenge as a way to honour them and raise money for Support Our Paras."
Mr Ellicock had previously completed the 125 mile (201km) Devizes to Westminster canoe race.In 2013 he set a world record for running the London Marathon while carrying a 40lb (18kg) pack in just under three and a half hours.

Finding that balance of having that clear style and working towards that, but also getting results short-term, is going to be key for him."

England's Lewis-Skelly agrees new Arsenal deal
England defender Myles Lewis-Skelly has agreed a new contract at left-back, whose current deal expires in 2026, has been in talks with the Gunners over recent months. The 18-year-old has now agreed the outline of an extended agreement, which will see him commit his future to the Gunners once signed. It is reward for a breakthrough campaign last season, which saw Lewis-Skelly make 39 appearances in all competitions. He made his debut against Manchester City in September and was mainly used at left-back, despite emerging through Arsenal's academy as a midfielder. Lewis-Skelly's performances earned him a call-up to the full England squad in March, having previously been capped from Under-16 through to U19 scored in a 2-0 win against Albania at Wembley, becoming the youngest player in history to score on their full Three Lions debut. Lewis-Skelly's performances last term saw him nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award earlier this week, alongside Morgan Rogers, Liam Delap, Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Ethan Nwaneri.

NEWCASTLE remain determined to keep Alexander Isak - and it would take a Neymar-style bid for them to even contemplate cashing in. Speculation is mounting again that Liverpool are readying a swoop for Toon 27-goal top scorer. 2 SunSport understands there has been no official contact from the Reds yet over a potential deal. However, even if there is, Newcastle's stance has not changed one bit. And even talk of £150million being enough to land the Swede is way off the mark. In fact, it would take a bid near the £200m world-record Paris Saint-Germain forked out to Barcelona for Neymar to even get a response. Despite all of the recent rumours, Newcastle still plan to hold talks with Isak's camp over a new deal for their star. His contract at St. James' Park runs until 2028 and they are under no pressure financially to cash in either after coming through their recent PSR issues. Isak has made no murmurs about leaving for Anfield either, saying he is focused on playing. The Swede said: 'I don't know much, to be honest. From within the club and from our side there are absolutely no discussions. It's just full focus on playing for me. 2 There's not much to say, really. I've commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times. 'It's been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I'm not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. 'There is no reason for me to think about anything else (other than Newcastle). I feel incredibly comfortable at Newcastle. The only focus I have is on playing.'
