Verma flagged that only 62 of 82 gram panchayats have completed the work for community toilets and instructed officials to select land in the remaining villages to speed up construction under Swachh Bharat Mission Phase 2 (Rural).
"The biogas plants and plastic waste management unit must be made operational without delay. Infrastructure is not enough, these systems must start functioning to serve the purpose they were created for.
The district panchayat raj officer must hold discussions with village heads and ensure this is done," he said.
The DM also reviewed key components under the
mission, including resource recovery centres, compost pits, soak pits, silt catchers, and filter chambers.
District panchayat raj officer (DPRO) Virendra Singh said each of the 82 gram panchayats in the district will soon have a resource recovery centre (RRC). "RRCs in 42 villages are ready, and work is underway in 18 others. For the remaining, land is being finalised," Singh said.

Bird presence, unchecked construction raise safety concerns at Ranchi airport
After the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, the spotlight has once again turned to aviation safety across the country. In this context, questions are being raised about how safe Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport is for flight operations, especially following a bird-hit incident on June 2 involving an IndiGo airport, located in a densely populated area, continues to face serious challenges in maintaining safe airspace. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has repeatedly flagged this issue with the state 2023, the AAI wrote to the Chief Minister, Urban Development Department and Ranchi Municipal Corporation, raising concerns about 55 construction within a 20-km radius of the airport that it deemed unsafe for aircraft operations. This is not the first time such concerns have been raised. As early as 2008, notices were issued under the Aircraft Act of 1934 to over 40 buildings, restricting construction heights to 35 feet around the Shilpriya Verma, former Chief Pilot of the Jharkhand Police and a veteran in state aviation with over 15 years of service, explained to Aaj Tak that the runway's centreline - where take-offs occur - must remain clear within a 15-degree arc on both sides. He added that within a 3-km radius of any airport, there should be no meat, fish markets, or abattoirs, as these attract Ranchi, however, the hygienic fish market and waste dumped behind the airport boundary pose a persistent risk. Just two days before the June 2 incident, another bird was spotted in flight path range as an IndiGo aircraft prepared for Verma stressed that all stakeholders - including the municipal corporation and RRDA - must recognise their responsibilities. He also called for a public awareness campaign to educate residents near the airport about the dangers of open waste dumping. Strict adherence to standard operating procedures is essential to ensure safe operations at Ranchi airport.

The purpose of the RoB is to connect the two colonies.' He added that heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the bridge and it will only accommodate small ones. "It will be operated with full safety and the speed of vehicles as per the instructions of the Indian Road Congress,' he added. According to the outlet, the bridge, built at a cost of ₹18 crore, is supposed to save time for people of the Aishbagh area by eliminating their need to wait at the railway crossing or take a long detour to reach their destination. The overbridge is 648 metres long and 8.5 metres wide.

Deploy guards, ensure free access for all to park maintained by school, NGT tells Noida Authority
Noida: NGT has asked Noida Authority to deploy its guards at Gandhi Park, the greenbelt leased to DPS Noida in 1983 for maintenance. It has also asked the school to continue maintaining the greenbelt and not use it as personal property. Ruling on a petition by the RWA of Sector 30, the tribunal tasked the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) with finalising environmental compensation against the school for violating air quality management commission guidelines. On May 19, the tribunal ruled in favor of residents in a case filed by Pramod Verma, president of RWA, Sector 30. The tribunal, led by chairperson, Justice Prakash Srivastava, judicial member, Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi, and expert member, Afroz Ahmad, stated that residents can freely access the park and green belt without any interference from the school. "Noida authority should deploy its own guards in place of the guards deployed by the school and ensure that the opening and closing time of the park is uniform for all," the tribunal said. Verma filed an application with the NGT seeking cancellation of DPS Noida's lease for failing to maintain the green belt as required. NGT took up Verma's complaint in May 2024 and impleaded member secretary UPPCB, CEO Noida, district magistrate GB Nagar, and DPS Noida through its administrator while hearing the case in May 2024. Following tribunal orders, UPPCB conducted joint inspections in July 2024 and Feb 2025. The inspection revealed violations of environmental laws, prompting UPPCB to issue a show-cause notice to DPS Noida. The notice proposed environmental compensation of Rs 15,000 per day from the start of construction for breaching the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) guidelines in the NCR. Additionally, the school faces a Rs 1.2 lakh penalty for failing to register the construction project on the govt portal. Expressing surprise that the PCB has not submitted its final decision concerning the show cause issued back in Sept 2024, the NGT asked the commission to expedite action after hearing the school's explanation. The tribunal further noted that since the UPPCB found some maintenance work being done by the school during the second visit in Feb, it was evident that some effort was being made. "We find that intermittent lapses are committed by the respondent, the DPS school, in maintaining the park. Therefore, we direct the respondent to properly maintain the park and comply with all the conditions of the allotment/adoption letter dated Sept 5, 1983, and the adoption rules," the tribunal ruled.
